  • We investigated the fault current limiting characteristics according to the various facilities in power system. Power systems are becoming larger and larger for meeting electric power demand. Therefore, the over-currents resulting from contingencies such as short circuits are increasing higher, which causes the ratings of circuit breakers(CBs) to increase. Upgrading or replacement of CBs is not difficult from the technical and economical point of view. Bus split is being adopted into a part of 154 kV power systems, but it has adverse effects such as overload to neighboring power systems, increased voltage fluctuation, and decreased power system stability. For 345 kV power systems, the bus split measure is not feasible and dc reactors are being suggested. The superconducting fault current limiter is a protection gear of new concept that limits fault current automatically in a few milliseconds. It can also provide the effect of CB capacity increase, relaxation of power machine criteria, enhancement in power system reliability, and flexible power system operation.

  • Mo-Am arch bridge is only the long-span bridge (with 125m span) in the Kyong-Bu high-speed line in service, while other bridges are PSC box girder bridges and steel composite bridges with span lengths of $25\sim50m$. However, in foreign high-speed lines, special cable-supported bridges like cable-stayed bridges and extradosed bridges are being adopted in earnest with technical specifications. The cable supported bridge is recognized as one of the indices of technology in civil engineering field, and thus it is being adpoted with a sense of rivalry in countries with advanced technology in railway engineering. In this paper, to apply the top-level cable-supported bridge technology to the domestic high-speed line up to 400km/h by establishing the technical specifications on cable-supported bridges including span length, the requirements for securing the dynamic stability and running safety of high speed train are analyzed through case studies for domestic and foreign cases.

  • Among the mainstream of this society has quickly adopted computer technology as part of their daily life, the ever growing group of elderly people, which will increase from 7% of the population in 2000 to being 14% just 18 years later, has been being exposed to computer using environment more than ever before. According to the survey of Korean government in 2005, the number of the elderly using computer has been rising actually, so web-based survey to identify housing needs of the elderly seems to have lots of possibilities as a useful tool for them. This study aims at comparing web-based survey tool with paper-based one, developed to identify the elderly needs on digital home planning. Experimental method and in-depth interview were employed. The participants were divided into 2 groups, web-based and paper-based survey group. Each group was controlled over by age (average 60 years old), gender and computer skill. As a results, web-based survy tool was revealed as effective to clearer understanding and causing more interests and more available, but less easy to handle than paper-based survey one. Through the in-depth interview, web-based survey tool was identified as a more effective method to figure out the needs of the elderly who are familiar with computer.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe pregnant women's lived experiences of hospitalization due to preterm labor in Korea. Methods: This qualitative study adopted a phenomenological approach. Individual in-depth interviews were conducted with nine participants, over the age of 20 years, who had been hospitalized for more than 1 week after being diagnosed with preterm labor. All interviews were audio-taped and verbatim transcripts were made for analysis. The data were analyzed following Colaizzi's phenomenological method. Results: The participants' ages ranged from 26 to 36 years, and all were married women. They were hospitalized for 13.1 days on average. Five thematic clusters emerged from the analysis. 'Withstanding hospitalization for the fetus's well-being' describes women's feelings during preterm labor and their endurance during their prolonged hospitalization, rooted in their conviction that the fetus comes first. 'Endless frustration in the hospital' encompasses women's emotions while lying in bed and quietly thinking to themselves. 'Unmet physiological needs' describes participants' awareness of their inability to independently handle human physiological needs given the need for careful and limited movement. 'Gratitude for the support around oneself' reflects the support from family and medical staff. 'Shifting perceptions and accepting one's circumstances' describes accepting hospitalization and making efforts to spend their remaining time in the hospital in a meaningful way. Conclusion: The findings in this study provide a deeper understanding and insights into the experiences of Korean women with preterm labor during hospitalization, underscoring the need to develop interventions for these patients.

  • Purpose: This study was done to explore the lived experiences in older Korean women with early stage of Parkinson's disease. The research question was "What is the meaning and nature of the older women's experiences who were diagnosed with Parkinson's disease?" Methods: In this study, we adopted van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological approach to find the lived experiences of older women diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Six older women diagnosed with Parkinson's disease within five years participated, and data were collected through in-depth interviews. Results: Five fundamental lifeworld themes and seven subthemes emerged from the data. The first theme of corporeality had three subthemes: 'being shocked by an unexpected diagnosis', 'fewer things can be done due to the illness' and 'lost my prettiness'. The second theme representing relationality was 'hiding the illness because of others' whispering'. The temporality theme was 'fear of symptom aggravation'. The spatiality theme was 'being placed in a blind spot of information'. The last existential theme of material had 'obsession with drugs'. Conclusion: The results of this study provide an in-depth understanding of older womens experiences of living with Parkinson's disease. The findings can help develop interventions specific to these group of women to provide sufficient emotional support and accurate information.

  • Elastoplastic analysis of an annular disc, being fully constrained on its outer rim and interacting with a purely elastic inclusion perfectly bonded with its inner rim, is conducted to study its plastic deformation and residual stress under thermal cycles. The system is termed the composite disc. Quasi-static plane-strain deformation is assumed, and the von Mises yield criterion with or without the Ludwik hardening rule is adopted in our finite element calculations. Effects of multiple material properties simultaneously being temperature dependent on the plastic behavior of the composite disc are considered. Residual stress is analyzed from a complete loading and unloading cycle. Results are discussed for various inclusion radii. It is found that when temperature dependent material properties are considered, the maximum residual stress may be greater than the maximum stress inside the disc at the temperature-loaded state due to lower temperature having larger yield stress. Temperature independent material properties overestimate stresses inside materials, as well as the elastic irreversible temperature and plastic collapse temperature.

  • With the continuous development of technologies related to 5G, artificial intelligence, and autonomous vehicle systems, standards and services for V2X and C-ITS environments are being studied a lot. BSM (basic safety message) was adopted as a standard for exchanging data between vehicles based on data collected and generated by vehicle systems in a V2V environment. In this paper, we propose a framework that can safely store BSM messages and effectively check the stored messages using Event-Sourcing and CQRS patterns. The proposed framework can securely store and manage BSM messages using hash functions. And it has the advantage of being able to check the stored BSM data in real time based on the time series and to reproduce the state.

  • This study presents and examines various ethical theories that could offer potential solutions to the issue of discrimination against non-human animals in contemporary society, and traces its implications for Korean religions. The article focuses on two normative ethical theories - virtue ethics and the ethics of care - and through an analysis of existing research, argues that both theories may serve as foundational principles guiding our behavior, not only in our interactions with other humans but also in our treatment of non-human animals. Furthermore, the examples presented in this study demonstrate that similar ethical theories have already been adopted as frameworks for human behavior towards other living beings within two religious traditions, Buddhism and Daesoon Jinrihoe. In both belief systems, animals are acknowledged as integral components of the world in which we live. Additionally, both religions endorse the idea that the well-being of non-human animals and our attitudes toward them can also have a direct impact on our present lives, as well as on our future existence. Consequently, promoting morally upright conduct towards other living creatures should be viewed as a necessary measure, beneficial not only for the animals themselves but also for the collective well-being of humanity.
