  • Morphological and mineralogical characteristics of laumontite and adularia in the breccia zone in a fault, Yangbuk-myeon, Gyeongju, Korea suggest that they formed by reaction with hydrothermal alteration related to fault activity. Laumontite commonly occurring in the breccia zone is related to the presence of hydrothermal fluids bearing alkaline elements in the zone. Laumonite is characterized by elongated columnar form with aspect ratio varying 5~10. Laumontite and adularia whose characteristic euhedral forms are indicative of the latest product formed as rapid precipitation from fluids or replacements of Ca-plagioclase. Hydrothermal fluids reacted with intensively fractured granite, typical with high permeability, leached alkaline elements such as Ca, K, allowing laumontite and adularia to be precipitated under neutral to weak alkaline conditions. It is noteworthy that the formation process and genesis of low temperature minerals such as laumontite and adularia are very similar to those formed by wallrock alteration or hydrothermal alteration that occurred in epithermal deposits. Taking into account its characteristic morphology and chemistry, authigenic K-feldspar that commonly forms at low temperature in many fault zones must be adularia.

  • Recently, Acoustic Emission (AE) technique is widely applied to develop the early fault detection system, and the problem about a signal processing method for AE signal is mainly focused on. In the signal processing method, envelope analysis is a useful method to evaluate the rolling element bearing problems and Wavelet transform is a powerful method to detect faults occurred on gearboxes. However, exact method for AE signal is not developed yet. Therefore, in this paper, two methods, which is Hilbert transforms (HT) and Hilbert-Huang transforms (HHT), will be compared for development a signal processing method for early fault detection system by using AE. AE signals were measured through a fatigue test. HHT has better advantages than HT because HHT can show the time-frequency domain result. But, HHT needs long time to process a signal, which has a lot of data, and has a disadvantage in de-noising filter.

In addition, we evaluate the classification performance with varying the parameter from 2 to 15 for feature selection DET, 0.01 to 1.0 for the RBF kernel function of SVR, and the proposed algorithm achieved 94 % classification of averaged accuracy with the parameter of the RBF 0.08, 12 feature selection.

  • Pulse-like ground motion can cause greater damage to structures than nonpulse-like ground motion. Currently, much research is being conducted to determine the presence or absence of velocity pulses and to quantify them from seismic-acceleration records. Existing ground motion is divided into far-field (FF) and near-fault ground motion, based on the distance of the measurement point from the fault. Near-fault ground motion is further classified into near-fault pulse-like (NFP) and near-fault nonpulse-like (NFNP) ground motion by quantifying the presence or absence of velocity pulses. For each ground motion group, 40 FF, 40 NFP, and 40 NFNP ground motions are selected; thus, 120 ground motions are used in the seismic analysis to assess the seismic fragility of sample bridges. Probabilistic seismic demand models (PSDMs) are created by evaluating the seismic responses of two types of sample bridges with lead-rubber and elastomeric rubber bearings using three groups of ground motions. Seismic fragility analysis is performed using the PSDM, and from these results, the effect of the presence or absence of seismic velocity pulses on the seismic fragility is evaluated. From the comparison results of the seismic fragility curve, the seismic fragility of NFP ground motion appears to be approximately three to five times greater than that of NFNP ground motion, according to the presence or absence of a velocity pulse of seismic waves. This means that the damage to the bridge is greater in the case of NFP ground motion than that in the case of NFNP ground motion.

  • The faults of the squirrel cage induction motor is grew increasingly complex as the faults resulting in the shorting of a stator winding and the broken rotor bar or cracked rotor end ring, bearing faults, and so on. The users of electrical machines initially relied on simple protections such as over-current, over-voltage, earth-fault, etc. to ensure safe and reliable operation. but this method cause heavy financial losses and the threat of safety therefore it has now become very important to diagnose faults at there very inception. in this paper, we are going to discuss the detection method of broken rotor bar of squirrel cage induction motor by the motor current signal analysis(MCSA) and the opening terminal voltage signal analysis.

  • The aim of this paper is to define the required measurements and processing tools necessary for developing a maintenance approach applied to rotating machines in the presence of multiple faults. The system responses measured were accelerations and transmission errors. Acceleration measurements provide most of the information on bearing conditions, while transmission error measurements provide pertinent information on gear conditions. The measurements were carried out for several operating conditions (loads and speeds). System responses were processed in several analyzing domains (Time, Spectrum, and Cepstrum domains). The approach developed enables the detection and identification of combined faults and it can be applied to other types of rotating machines once the critical elements and their associated faults have been defined.

  • Main Spindle System has effect on performance of machine tools and working quality as well as is required of high reliability. Especially, it takes great importance in producing automobiles which includes a large number of working processes. However, main spindle unit in Machine tools are often cases where damage occurs do not meet the design life due to driving in harsh environments. This is when excessive maintenance and repair of machine tools or for damage stability has resulted in huge economic losses. Therefore, this studying propose a method of accelerated life test for diagnosing and prognosis the state of life assessment main spindle system. Time status monitoring of diagnostic data - through the analysis of the frequency band signals were carried out inside the main spindle bearing condition monitoring and fault diagnosis.

  • This case study presents a practical method to reduce resonant vibration of generator-motor set. The generator is driven at 1800rpm by induction integral motor. The vibration is below alarm limits, but the dominant frequency of vibration is sub-synchronous and close to that of bearing fault signal in spite of new bearings. To find an mechanism of abnormal vibration, ODS and Modal analysis is carried out. The measured modal characteristics were compared with those of FE Analysis. The ODS mode at rated speed is consistent with system natural frequency mode that is excited by bearings. To reduce vibration level, the isolation mount at system base is changed with new rubber mount for lower natural frequency.

  • The vibration signals of driving parts of electric train are distorted its signal patterns due to the impact components, which occurs when wheel passes rail joints. An elimination method of the impact components is investigated using adaptive signal processing technique in this study. The result shows that adaptive interference canceling method seems to be more effective than line enhancement technique. The application of adaptive interference canceling method to the signal measured at bogie shows that the extractions of the signals of driving parts of traction motor, reduction gear, and axle bearing are successful. Therefore, only the signals of bogie, which is the place to attach an accelerometer easily, is sufficient for the fault diagnosis and the safety evaluation of electric train. Also, adaptive interference canceling method can be applicable to evaluate the performance of vibration isolation between bogie and car body and to investigate the characteristics of indoor sound.

  • South anchorage(AN1, Myodo side) of supension bridge between Myodo and Gwangyang is designed as rock anchorage with 36m anchor length using the resistance of rock mass in Myodo. Checking the overall stability of the anchorage, we considered rock joints, bedding planes, fault zones and condition of rock structure in situ by analysis results for photo-lineaments, aerial photograph interpretation and drill-hole logs are considered. This anchorage consists of an access shaft, adit, and the upper and lower concrete bearing plate to introduce pre-stressing force into rock mass.
