  • Offset-fed dish antennas are considered. Offset-fed dish antennas are widely used for DBS reception, the problem of offset-fed dish antenna has, however, received little attention because of its complicated and asymmetric geometry. A Fourier-transform technique and Physical Optics are employed to express the fields radiated from offset-fed reflector and feed horn aperture. The simultaneous equations are solved to obtain a solution in a fast convergent series, thus facilitating the numerical computation. For given parameters such as diameter of reflector, focal length, offset height of reflector center, exact solutions are derived. Since offset-fed dish antenna has an application as multi-beam antenna using multiple feed, a brief feasablity of dual beam antenna for Korea-SAT (116$^{\circ}$E, EIRP 59 dBW) and Orion-SAT (139$^{\circ}$E, EIRP 54 dBW) is given in Conclusion.

  • The present study deals with the dynamics of the flapwise (out-of-plane) vibrations of a rotating, internally damped (Kelvin-Voigt model) tapered Bernoulli-Euler beam carrying a heavy tip mass. The centroid of the tip mass is offset from the free end of the beam and is located along its extended axis. The equation of motion and the corresponding boundary conditions are derived via the Hamilton's Principle, leading to a differential eigenvalue problem. Afterwards, this eigenvalue problem is solved by using Frobenius Method of solution in power series. The resulting characteristic equation is then solved numerically. The numerical results are tabulated for a variety of nondimensional rotational speed, tip mass, tip mass offset, mass moment of inertia, internal damping parameter, hub radius and taper ratio. These are compared with the results of a conventional finite element modeling as well, and excellent agreement is obtained.

  • In this paper, a study on beam synthesis technique of conformal array was performed. It is applied to various radar systems that can perform beam steering without deterioration of performance due to beam steering in a general linear arrangement. Unlike the beam synthesis technique in the planar linear array, the conformal array has a radiation element located on a curved surface, so it is necessary to compensate for a difference in length from the radaation element to the wave front surface. In addition, by calculating the offset angle for each radiation element and applying it during actual synthesis, it was possible to predict an accurate beam pattern. In this paper, length compensation and offset angle were calculated and applied to beam pattern synthesis to perform beam pattern comparison, and performance was compared through mathematical analysis.

  • When the feed of an offset reflector antenna is displaced from the focal point, the phase distortion results in the aperture field distribution, which in turn gives rise to a deviation of maximum beam, a decrease in gain, and an increase in sidelobes. In order to study these scan characteristics, an offset reflector antenna with the defocused feed is analyzed by a series expansion method using the Zernike polynomials, which can be used to calculate radiation pattern fast and exactly. And from the analyzed results, scan loss data in terms of reflector geometry are presented. And also, the BDF (beam deviation factor) expression is derived with offset reflector configuration analytically, and calculated results and simple formula of BDF are presented for determining beam deviation characteristics.

  • The purpose of this paper is to utilize the numerical assembly method (NAM) to determine the exact natural frequencies and mode shapes of a multi-step beam carrying multiple rigid bars, with each of the rigid bars possessing its own mass and rotary inertia, fixed to the beam at one point and supported by a translational spring and/or a rotational spring at another point. Where the fixed point of each rigid bar with the beam does not coincide with the center of gravity the rigid bar or the supporting point of the springs. The effects of the distance between the "fixed point" of each rigid bar and its center of gravity (i.e., eccentricity), and the distance between the "fixed point" and each linear spring (i.e., offset) are studied. For a beam carrying multiple various concentrated elements, the magnitude of each lumped mass and stiffness of each linear spring are the well-known key parameters affecting the free vibration characteristics of the (loaded) beam in the existing literature, however, the numerical results of this paper reveal that the eccentricity of each rigid bar and the offset of each linear spring are also the predominant parameters.

  • This paper analyzes heterogeneous distribution of branch-like structure at the downstream region of the spray. The liquid and vapor phase of the spray are obtained using a 35㎜ still camera and CCD camera in order to investigate spray structure of evaporating diesel spray. There have been many studies conducted on diesel spray structure but have yet only focused on the analyses of 2-D structure. There are a few information which is concerned with 3-D structure analysis of evaporating spray. The heterogeneous distribution of droplets in inner spray affects the mixture formation of diesel spray and the combustion characteristics of the diesel engines. In this study, the laser beam of 2-D plane was used in order to investigate 3-D structure of evaporating spray The incident laser beam was offset on the central axis of the spray. From the analysis of images taken by offset laser beam, we will examine the formation mechanism of heterogeneous distribution of the diesel spray by vortex flow at the downstream of the spray. The images of liquid and vapor phase of free spray are simultaneously taken through an exciplex fluorescence method. Through this, the branch-like structure consisting of heterogeneous distribution of the droplets forms high concentrated vapor phase at the periphery of droplets and at the spray tip.

  • This paper proposes an aircraft-installed compact offset-parabolic-reflector antenna for the spinning direction-finding applications. The feeder of the reflector antenna is a LPDA antenna that has the ultra-wideband characteristics and the $45^{\circ}$ slant linear polarization. The reflector is designed to be slanted by $5^{\circ}$ in the elevation and to be small in size on the basis of the reference parabolic shape for the purpose of the high gain and mounting on the underside of aircraft fuselage. Over the ultra-wideband 20:1 bandwidth from S to Ka band, the measured average gain of the proposed antenna is 27.97 dBi, and the average half-power beam width is $4.55^{\circ}$ in the azimuth and $4.3^{\circ}$ in the elevation which is the pencil-beam radiation pattern. All the measured data are similar to the simulation results. The designed compact offset-parabolic-reflector antenna that is installed in the limited area has the ultra-wideband and high-gain characteristics. We expect that the newly designed antenna can be applied to the spinning direction-finding antenna system installed in an aircraft.

  • In this paper, three kinds of beam coupling losses which occur in a quasi-optics circuit for millimeter wave receiver system have been intensively investigated. First, the beam coupling losses which are caused by mismatch of beam waists radii and their positions between those of one and the other have been evaluated. It shows that beam coupling losses due to mismatch of beam waists radii and their positions between two quasi-optics circuits can be minimized if beam waist radius is chosen as larger than 3 times the operation wavelength. Second, the beam coupling losses have been studied when the axis of propagation of one beam is tilted with respect to that of the other beam. It is noted that smaller beam waist radius results in greater tolerance to tilts and angular misalignments. Third, the beam coupling cases in which two beams are offset if their axes of propagation are parallel but one is displaced relative to the other have been investigated. It is confirmed that beam waists radii with larger than 3 times operation wavelength are less sensitive to lateral offsets.
