Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two types of coloring agents and the number of application on the color of zirconia. Materials and methods: Monolithic zirconia specimens ($15.7mm{\times}15.7mm{\times}2.0mm$) (n = 33) was prepared and divided into 11 groups. Each experimental group was coded as a1-a5, w1-w5 according to the type of coloring agent and number of application. Specimens with no coloring agent applied were set as control group. The color difference of specimen was measured by using double-beam spectrophotometer, and calculated color difference (${{\Delta}E^*}_{ab}$), translucency parameter (TP). All data was analyzed with two-way ANOVA, multiple comparison $Sch{\acute{e}}ffe$ test, Pearson correlation and linear regression analysis. Results: As the number of application increased, values of $CIE\;L^*$ was decreased, but values of $CIE\;b^*$ was increased in both coloring agents. However, there was no significant difference on values of translucency parameter. The color difference range of each group was ${0.87{\Delta}E^*}_{ab}$ to ${9.43{\Delta}E^*}_{ab}$. Conclusion: In this study, type of coloring agent and the number of application did not affect the color difference of zirconia.
The skyshine effect is an essential and important phenomenon in the shielding design of the high energy accelerator. In this study, a new estimation method of neutron skyshine was proposed and was verified by comparison with existing methods. The effective dose of secondary neutrons and photons at the locations that was far away from high-energy electron accelerator was calculated using FLUKA and PHITS Monte Carlo code. The transport paths of secondary radiations to reach a long distance were classified as skyshine, direct, groundshine and multiple-shine. The contribution of each classified component to the total effective dose was evaluated. The neutrons produced from the thick copper target irradiated by 10 GeV electron beam was applied as a source term of this transport. In order to evaluate a groundshine effect, the composition of soil on the PAL-XFEL site was considered. At a relatively short distance less than 50 m from the accelerator tunnel, the direct and groundshine components mostly contributed to the total effective dose. The skyshine component was important at a long distance. The evaluated dose of neutron skyshine agreed better with the results using Rindi's formula, which was based on the experimental results at high energy electron accelerator. That also agreed with the estimated dose using the simple evaluation code, SHINE3, within about 20%. The total effective dose, including all components, was 10 times larger than the estimated doses using other methods for this comparison. The influence of multiple-shine path in this evaluation of the estimation method was investigated to be bigger than one of pure skyshine path.
A color filter was demonstrated incorporating a patterned metal grating in a quartz substrate. The filter is created in a metal layer perforated with a symmetric two-dimensional array of circular holes, with the pitch smaller than the wavelength of the visible light. A finite-difference time-domain simulation was performed to analyze the device by investigating the effect of structural parameters like the grating height, the period, the hole size, and the refractive index of the hole-filling material on its performance. The device performance was especially optimized by controlling the refractive index of the material comprising the holes of the grating. And two different devices were fabricated by means of the e-beam direct writing with the following design parameters: the grating height of 50 nm, the two pitches of 340 nm for the red color and 260 nm for the green color. For the prepared device with the period of 340 nm, the center wavelength was 680 nm and the peak transmission 57%. And for the other device with the pitch of 260 nm, the center wavelength was 550 nm and the peak transmission was 50%. The filling of the hole with a material whose refractive index is matched to that of the substrate has led to an increase of ${\sim}15%$ in the transmission efficiency.
In this paper, we have designed an integrated triplexer which is the basic component for a FTTH(Fiber To The Home) system which can transmit CATV and voice/data at the same time in a single fiber. The integrated triplexer can be fabricated with a novel technique of "Micro-Block Stacking (MBS)" method which automatically aligns the optical components in the optical beam pass using accurate ceramic holders. We analyze the displacement of the optical focus according to the tolerances of the component dimensions and the assembly process using code V simulator. For the transmitter, the most serious shift of the focal points is caused by the displacements of the LD spot. So the focal point moves up to $72{\mu}m$ from the center point for ${\pm}25{\mu}m$, ${\pm}25{\mu}m$, ${\pm}30{\mu}m$ displacements. For the receiver the most serious shift of the focal points is caused by the displacements of a 0.8mm ball lens (for the analog receiving part) and a micro ball lens (for the digital receiving part), and the focal point moves up to $55{\mu}$ for ${\pm}55{\mu}m$, ${\pm}5{\mu}m$, ${\pm}55{\mu}m$ micro ball lens displacements.

A confocal microscope was developed utilizing a scanning sample stage based on a home-built double-compound flexure guide. A scanning sample stage with nano-scale resolution consisted of a double leaf spring based flexure, a displacement amplifying lever, a Piezo-electric Transducer(PZT) actuator and capacitance sensors. The performance of the two-axis stage was analyzed using a commercial finite element method program prior to the implementation. A single line laser was employed as the light source along with the Photo Multiplier Tube(PMT) that served as the detector. The performance of the developed confocal microscope was evaluated with a mouse ear skin imaging test. The designed scanning stage enabled us to build the confocal microscope without the two optical scanning mirror modules that are essential in the conventional laser scanning confocal microscope. The elimination of the scanning mirror modules makes the optical design of the confocal microscope simpler and more compact than the conventional system.

Over the past 15 years, several groups have incorporated radio-frequency quadrupole (RFQ) based instruments before the accelerator in accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) systems for ion-gas interactions at low kinetic energy (<40 eV). Most AMS systems arebased on a tandem accelerator, which requires negative ions at injection. Typically, AMS sensitivity abundance ratios for radioactive-to-stable isotope are limited to Xr/Xs >10^-15, and the range of isotopes that can be analyzed is limited because of theneed to produce rather large negative ion beams and the presence of atomic isobaric interferences after stripping. The potential of using low-kinetic energy ion-gas interactions for isobar suppression before the accelerator has been demonstrated for several negative ion isobar systems with a prototype RFQ system incorporated into the AMS system at IsoTrace Laboratory, Canada (Ontario, Toronto). Requisite for any such RFQ system applied to very rare isotope analysis is large transmission of the analyte ion. This requires proper phase-space matching between the RFQ acceptance and the ion beam phase space (e.g. 35 keV, ${\varphi}3mm$, +-35 mrad), and the ability to control the average ion energy during interactions with the gas. A segmented RFQ instrument is currently being designed at Korea Institute for Science and Technology (한국과학기술연구원, KIST). It will consist of: a) an initial static voltage electrode deceleration region, to lower the ion energy from 35 keV down to <40 eV at injection into the first RFQ segment; b) the segmented quadrupole ion-gas interaction region; c) a static voltage electrode re-acceleration region for ion injection into a tandem accelerator. Design considerations and modeling will be discussed. This system should greatly lower the detection limits of the 6 MV AMS system currently being commissioned at KIST. As an example, current detection sensitivity of 41Ca/Ca is limited to the order of 10^-15 while the 41Ca/Ca abundance in modern samples is typically 41Ca/Ca~10^-14 - 10^-15. The major atomic isobaric interference in AMS is 41K. Proof-of-principal work at IsoTrace Lab. has demonstrated that a properly designed system can achieve a relative suppression of KF3-/41CaF3- >4 orders of magnitude while maintaining very high transmission of the 41CaF3- ion. This would lower the 41Ca detection limits of the KIST AMS system to at least 41Ca/Ca~10^-19. As Ca is found in bones and shells, this would potentially allow direct dating of valuable anthropological archives and archives relevant to our understanding of the most pronounced climate change events over the past million years that cannot be directly dated with the presently accessible isotopes.
The development of reinforcing steel is required in reinforced concrete structures. The standard hooks that have been widely used for the tensile development in the beam-column joints tend to create difficulties of construction such as steel congestion as the member cross sections are becoming smaller due to the use of higher strength concrete and higher grade steel. Using the reinforcing bars with end mechanical anchoring device (headed reinforcement) provides potential economies in construction such as reduction in development lengths, simplified details, and improved responses to cyclic loadings. In this paper, the pullout strengths and behaviors of the headed reinforcement were experimentally studied. In 33 pullout tests performed using D25 deformed reinforcing bars, the test parameters were embedment depth, edge distance, head size, and the use of transverse reinforcement. The pullout strengths determined from tests closely agreed with the pullout strengths predicted using the CCD method. The pullout strengths increased with increasing embedment depths nd edge distances. The strengths tend to increase with the use of larger heads. From the experimental program where the effect of the transverse reinforcement was examined, a modification factor to the CCD was suggested to represent the effect of such reinforcement that is installed across the concrete failure plane on the pullout strengths.

As a reinforcement material for RC members, the modified epoxy mortar has been reported one of the superior materials since the material can improve the load capacity and the seismic performance of the RC members. However, there were few experimental studies and analytical research for improving seismic performance with the material. This study is to propose an effective reinforcement plan for RC Ordinary Moment Resisting Frame (OMRF) with the evaluation of seismic performance and economic analysis. For the objective, first, the load-deflection curve of a simple beam specimen was compared with the analytical results. Second, a 5-story RC OMRF structure was designed only for gravity load and the alternatives for seismic reinforcement were suggested. Third, pushover analysis was executed for evaluation of design coefficients and seismic performance of the structures. Finally, an effective reinforcement plan was suggested based on the results of quantity take-off and economic analysis. The findings of this study can be utilized as the basic data when the modified epoxy mortar is applied to practice for improving the seismic performance of RC members.
There are a lot of curved subway stations in Seoul metropolitan area. These must be straightly constructed as many as possible. But some of stations are roundly designed and built in order to avoid pre-existed underground obstacle such as basement of high rise building, underground gas or water pipe line and subway stations from another line. As shown fig 1, one of the biggest problem occurring curved subway station is considered large gap between platform and vehicle when vehicle completely stop at the station. The gap potentially is in existence to subway passenger as very dangerous factors in rush hours. If passenger accidentally drop their food or leg between this gap when they get on the train and train leaves station, the passenger will be seriously injured by vehicle. In this paper, various design and instruments are introduced and best solution for this matter will be presented. In order to eliminate any possibility of accident happened gap between platform and vehicle, KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) have been developed new safety instrument. These technologies were applied for patent by KRRI. These mechanisms will provide confidence as well as safety to Korean subway passenger
The purpose of this study was to investigate stresses in the various components of fixed partial dentures restoring the posterior teeth of the lower jaw, and to measure quantitatively the effects of certain modifications in structural design on the stresses in the restorations using two-dimensional photoelasticity. Two-dimensional photoelastic methods were used in this study. Several models of fixed partial dentures were constructed. Shoulder less margins and anatomic occlusal reduction were incorporated in Model 1. Rounded shoulders and flat occlusal reduction were incorporated in Model 2, while Model 3 was a cantilever fixed partial denture. Other similar fixed partial dentures were constructed with V and U notches deliverately included in the region of the fixed joints for comparative reasons. The birefringent materials used in this study were PSM-1 and PSM-5 in standard sheets. PSM-1 was used for constructing the substructure, and PSM-5 was used in making the components of the fixed partial dentures. The two materials were used in the construction of composite photoelastic models. Improved artificial stone was used to represent dental cement in luting the composite photoelastic models. Static loading procedures were used at preplanned sites to represent occlusal loads in the mouth. 35 mm color and B/W film were used to record isochromatics in accordance with photoelastic procedures. Data reduction was performed using the grid method, which helped in, the mathematical integration procedure (Shear difference method) to separate the principal stresses. The results were as follows. 1. Fixed partial dentures do not function in bending as a symmetrical beam. Alternate areas of tension and compression were demonstrated when multiple contact loading was used. 2. The weakest part in posterior fixed partial dentures is the fixed joint. 3. (1) Models I and modified Model I were loaded on the pontic using a 50 pound vertical static load. The shear stress near the posterior fixed joint in Model 1 (U notches) was+129.4 p.s.i., and at the same fixed joint in modified Model 1 (V notches) was+239.4 p.s.i. The concentration of stress in fixed joint was reduced by 50% when U notches replaced the V notches. (2) Modified Model 2 was loaded using a multiple contact loader at a total load of 125 pounds. The difference between the principal stresses (${\sigma}_1-{\sigma}_2$), shear stress, at the V notches was+600 p.s.i., and at the U notches was+3l7 p.s.i. The shear stress was reduced by 50% when U notches replaced the V notches. V-grooves at the fixed joints should be avoided, and should be replaced by regular shaped U-grooves. 4. Cantilever fixed partial dentures had much higher stresses at the fixed joint than fixed partial dentures that were attached at both ends.
