  • The third order nonlinear optical susceptibilities, {{{{ chi }}(3), of the CuCl doped alumino-borosilicate glasses were measured by the two beam configuration DFWM method and the absorption saturation method, and the measured {{{{ chi }}(3) values were about 10-8 esu in both methods. The response time was estimated to be about 105ps from the time decay curve of the luminescence spectra obtained by time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) method.

  • Focused Ion Beam (FIB) systems have incorporated versatile nanomanipulators with inherent sophisticated machining capability to characterize the electrical properties of highly miniature components of electronic devices. Carbon fibers were chosen as a model system to test the applicability of nanomanipulators to microscale electronic materials, with special emphasis on the direct current current-voltage characterizations in terms of electrode configuration. The presence of contact resistance affects the electrical characterization. This resistance originates from either i) the so-called "spreading resistance" due to the geometrical constriction near the electrode - material interface or ii) resistive surface layers. An appropriate electrode strategy is proposed herein for the use of FIB-based manipulators.

  • The coupling length is very important factor for the study of directional coupler and other intergrated-optic devices. And the calculation of coupling length is the fundamental process of studing various types of intergrated optical devices. But the calculation of coupling length, requires coupling coefficient n. and the evaluation of coupling coefficient f is very tedious because it requires the calculation of overlap intergral of the two modes. Because of above reason, we suggest the use of beam propagation method, We suggest the basic configuration of directional coupler, which has three different types of longitudinal to vertical ratio, and calculate the coupling length of sugested configuration by both coupled mode thery and beam propagation method and compare the results of each method.

  • Variation in root canal morphology, especially in maxillary first molar presents a constant challenge for a clinician in their detection and management. This case report describes the successful root canal treatment of a three rooted right maxillary first molar presenting with three canals each in the mesiobuccal and distobuccal roots and one canal in the palatal root. The clinical detection of this morphologic aberration was made using a dental operating microscope, and the canal configuration was established after correlating and computing the clinical, radiographic and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan findings. CBCT images confirmed the configuration of the canals in the mesiobuccal and distobuccal roots to be Al-Qudah and Awawdeh type (3-2) and type (3-2-1), respectively, whereas the palatal root had a Vertucci type I canal pattern. This report reaffirms the importance of careful examination of the floor of the pulp chamber with a dental operating microscope and the use of multiangled preoperative radiographs along with advanced diagnostic aids such as CBCT in identification and successful management of aberrant canal morphologies.

  • Here are proposed the tunable laser for optical memory which uses the acousto-optic deflector. This laser includes the acousto-optic deflector in the Littrow mount configuration so that we may control the beam deflection by means of the induced RF. Consequently, we can achieve the higher speed and accuracy to compare with the Littrow monut configuration only.

  • In the past, we presented the tracking system with one sampling delay. In this paper, first we propose a tracking system with N-th sampling delay, in the case where an input-output pulse transfer function of a plant Z$\_$-N/. Secondly we propose a system configuration converting an input-output pulse transfer function of a plant into Z$\_$-N/ with the inverse system of the plant. Moreover, the proposed tracking system configuration is applied to an actual Ball and Beam system and good results are obtained.

Simulation Study of an e-Beam Addressed Liquid Crystal Display for Projection

  • We have carried out a simulation study on an e-beam addressed liquid crystal projection display in which the liquid crystal is switched by the electric field of the charge, produced by an electron beam, on the surface of the display. We calculated the electric field produced by the surface charge, the liquid crystal director configuration and the profile of the transmitted light. We studied the factors affecting the resolution of the display and the effect of pretilt angle on the performance of the display. The e-beam addressed liquid crystal projection display potentially has the advantages of high resolution and high brightness.

  • The objectives of this research are to evaluate the effect of the compressive strength of concrete, reinforcing bar size, spacing of column transverse bars related to the concrete confinement effects on anchorage bond strength and bond behavior of beam-column joints subjected to cyclic loading and to predict the bond behavior of beam-column joints according to the variables by Finite Element Analysis appling the interface element between concrete and reinforced bar surface in a three-dimensional configuration. This paper shows that to verify the results by three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis appling a interface element, the test results that were already conducted are compared with analytic results. The behavior of bond and anchorage of beam bar is expressed by a local bond stress-slip relationship and the failure mode of bond is predicted by principal stress contour.

  • In this paper, applications of multilayer neural networks to control of flexible robot beam are considered. The multilayer nerual networks can be used to approximate any continuous function to a desired degree of accuracy and the weights are updated by Gradient Method. When a flexible beam is rotated by a motor through the fixed end, transverse vibration may occur. The motor torque should be controlled insuch a way that the motor rotates by a specified angle, while simultaneously stabilizing vibration of the flexible manipulators so that is arrested as soon as possbile at the end of rotation. Accurate control of lightweight beam during the large changes in configuration common to robotic tasks requires dynamic models that describe both rigid body motions, as well as the flexural vibrations. Therefore, a linear dynamic state-space model of for a single link flexible robot beam is derived and PD controller, LQP controller, and inverse dynamical neural networks controller are composed. The effectiveness the proposed control system is confirmed by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, optical noise is reduced by a differential detector, which is composed of a beam splitter and two photodiodes whose spectral responses are different each other. In this configuration, the automatic gain control circuit is not required for noise cancellation because the noise intensities at the two photodiodes are kept equal by a beam splitter. The signal to noise ratio in a differential detector with a beam splitter was improved to be 14 ㏈ higher than in a single photodiode with optical filtering.
