The accuracy of the depth perception of 3-dimensional images (이안식 입체영상에서 심도지각의 정확성에 관한 연구)

  • The accurate error size and discrimination region in the perception of depth amount from 3-dimensional images by the human visual system will be the basic data for the utilization and application of the binocular 3- eimensional image system. This paper is focused on studying the accuracy of the depth amount perceived from 3- dimensional images by the human visual system. From the performed experiment, the following results have been obtained: (1) The depth amount perceived from the binocular 3- dimensional images has been displayed by a proper scale of distance, and found to be imprecise and also have a large variance. (2) In utilizing the binocular 3-dimensional image system, it seems more appropriate to make the images viewed outward rather than inward from the screen in the regard of error and variance. (3) The binocular 3-dimensional image system can be effectively applied to displaying unreal space, for example, the layout of room in design, from the viewpoint of perception characteristics of depth amount.

  • In this study an adaptive node generation procedure in the Element-free Galerkin (EFG) method using bubble-meshing technique is proposed. Based on the error function that obtained by projected error estimation method, the initial node arrangement is defined along the background cell that is used in the numerical integration. To obtain the smooth nodal configuration, the nodal configuration are regenerated by bubble-meshing technique. This bubble meshing technique was originally developed to generate a set of well-shaped triangles and tetrahedra. Its basic idea is packing circles or spheres, called bubble, into the specified area or space naturally using some dynamic equations with attracting and repelling force. To demonstrate the performance of proposed scheme, the convergence behaviors are investigated for several problems.

  • We propose accurate classification method of EEG signals during mental tasks. In the experimental task, the tasks of subjects show 3 major measurements; there are mathematical tasks, color decision tasks, and Chinese phrase tasks. The classifier implemented for this work is a feed-forward neural network that trained with the error back-propagation algorithm. The new BCI system is proposed by using neural network. In this system, tr e architecture of the neural network is composed of three layers with a feed-forward network, which implements the error back propagation-learning algorithm. By applying this algorithm to 4 subjects, we achieved $95{\%}$ classification rates. The results for BCI mathematical task experiments show performance better than those of the Chinese phrase tasks. The selection time of each task depends on the mental task of subjects. We expect that the proposed detection method can be a basic technology for brain-computer interface by combining with left/right hand movement or yes/no discrimination methods.

  • This paper presents the VLSI implementation of RS(reed-solomon) decoder using the Modified Euclidean Algorithm(hereafter MEA) for DVD(Digital Versatile Disc) and CD(Compact Disc). The decoder has a capability of correcting 8-error or 16-erasure for DVD and 2-error or 4-erasure for CD. The technique of polynomial evaluation is introduced to realize syndrome calculation and a polynomial expansion circuit is developed to calculate the Forney syndrome polynomial and the erasure locator polynomial. Due to the property of our system with buffer memory, the MEA architecture can have a recursive structure which the number of basic operating cells can be reduced to one. We also proposed five criteria to determine an uncorrectable codeword in using the MEA. The overall architecture is a simple and regular and has a 4-stage pipelined structure.

  • Channel distortion and coarticulation effect in the Korean connected digit telephone speech make it difficult to achieve high performance of connected digit recognition in the telephone environment. In this paper, as a basic research to improve the recognition performance of Korean connected digit telephone speech, recognition error patterns are investigated and analyzed. Korean connected digit telephone speech database released by SiTEC and HTK system are used for recognition experiments. Both DWFBA and MRTCN methods are used for feature extraction and channel compensation, respectively. Experimental results are discussed with our findings.

  • This study was contrived Hierarchical Information Search (HIS) model. HIS model is based on a “cognitive process” in which model, comprising basic human information processing mechanize and information interaction. Its process include 3 semantic cognitive processes: Schema-Association LTM, Form Domain, and Alternative Selection. Design methodology consists to elicitate memory, thinking and cognitive response variables. In case study, menu structure of mobile phone was applied. In result, a correlation between predictive error rate and real error rate was .892. and a correlation between selective and real reaction time was .697. This present to suggest a model of how the methodology could be applied to real system design effectively when this was used. HIS model could become one of the most important factors for success of product design. In the perspective, the systemic methodology would contribute to design a quantitative and predictive system.

  • In this paper, we present encoders and decoders with the two kinds of ternary Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem(BCH) codes in the most basic ternary code system from among multiple-valued code systems. One is the random-triple-error-correcting ternary BCH(26,14) code for sequential data, the other is random-triple -error-correcting ternary BCH (26,13) code. The encoders and the decoders realized are verified by experiment. Amount of the (26,13) decoder's hardware is about 50% of the one of the (26,14) decoder's one.

  • A very simple control approach using neural network for the robust position control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) is presented The linear quadratic controller plus feedforward neural network is employed to obtain the robust PMSM system approximately linearized using field-orientation method for an AC servo. The neural network is trained in on-line phases and this neural network is composed by a fedforward recall and error back-propagation training. Since the total number of nodes are only eight this system can be easily realized by the general microprocessor. During the normal operation the input-output response is sampled and the weighting value is trained multi-times by error back-propagation method at each sample period to accommodate the possible variations in the parameters or load torque. And the state space analysis is performed to obtain the state feedback gains systematically. IN addition the robustness is also obtained without affecting overall system response. This method is realized by a floating-point Digital Singal Processor DS1102 Board (TMS320C31) The basic DSP software is used to write C program which is compiled by using ANSI-C style function prototypes.

  • The main information for a marine navigation is ship's bearing obtained from Gyro, Gyrocompass, Magneticcompass and electronic navigation systems such as LORAN, OMEGA and GPS. However, some of these systems have a disadvantage or restricted conditon involved critical problems in a war-ship and weapon system. In the work, we have done the basic resrarch, analysis of error pattern for GPS, for the development of the ship's seondary bearing sensor (GPS-Compass) to provide the back-up system of Gyro/Gyrocompass and a substitution way of Magneticcompass.

  • A scara type Direct Drive Arm(DDA) with two degrees-of-freedom is designed and implemented. The direct drive motor is used to furnish large torque to reduce the modeling error by the gear and chains. To control the DDA, a multiprocessor control structure with multirate dynamic control algorithm is designed. In the control algorithm, the dynamics of system is used to calculate the nominal control torque and the feedback controls are calculated with a parallel processing algorithm for each joint. The laboratory experiments on Hong-Ik DDA by dynamic control algorithm are presented and compared to that of PID control algorithm. This result shows that the proposed controller guarantees small trajectory error and stability. With this research, Hong-Ik DDA is expected to be utilized as A basic tool for robotics and control engineering.
