  • Electrically active part of the piezoelectric sound element is a ceramic thin circular disk cemented to a metal base plate (using a type of thermosetting epoxy). The active part is a thin lead zirconate titanate disk (PZT). The piezoelectric sound element is so dimensioned that its basic resonance frequency is approximately if the center of the audible frequency band: This frequency is mainly determined by the geometry and the sort of the metal base plate materials. In this study, four kinds of PZT ceramic and two classes of thin metal base plate were prepared. It is observed that dielectric and pizoelectric properties relate to acoustical properties (particularly sound pressure level).

  • In this study, the rotary bending fatigue test was carried out with two kinds of base metal, martensite stainless steel STR3 and austenite stainless steel STR35 and the dissimilar friction welded material with them. To compare the fatigue fifes according to the notch positions, the small circular defect was worked on the bonded line, 1.0mm and 0.5mm distance form the bonded line. The fatigue limits of the STR3 and STR35 base metal were 429.0MPa and 409.4MPa respectably. In comparison with fatigue life at the same notch positions, the STR35 specimens showed about 190% for base metal, 82% for 1.0mm distance notched specimens higher than that of the STR3. But the fatigue life of the 0.5mm distance notched STR35 specimen showed about 35% lower than that of the STR3 specimen. And the bonded line notched specimen was much lower fatigue life than the other specimens because of separation of the bonded line.

  • The whisker grows at the plating of a lead frame so that it causes the serious problem like the short. To prove this case, many people have studied the cause and influence of the tin whisker growth. This study explains the grain size affects the growth of the whisker in the lead frame. By these studies about the whisker, the whisker growth is discovered by stresses generated by the intermetallic compound and CTE mismatch in both plating and base metal. The stresses or lattice defect generated in the plating process changes grain structure of plating. Consequently, these various stresses are stabilized by forming unspecified whiskers through lots of grain boundaries. Because the grain boundary is the path of the whisker growth, the smaller grain size exists, the more whiskers grow.

  • This was studied about mechanical characteristic of AC4A/SiCw 10-30% reinforced composites. Tensile strength of pressed base metal(base metal) with SiCw preform was higher than without pressed base metal(AC4A). If SiCw whisker volume fraction was increased, tensile strength at room temperature was increased. And tensile strength of SiCw 30% was about $35kg/mm^2$. Tensile strength of SiCw 30 % $400^{\circ}C$ at same time aging was the most excellence, about $40kg/mm^2$. The fracture energy value of composite material at three point bending test was higher than AC4A. Dislocation at matrix of composite material was evenly distributed. But dislocation around whisker of composite material was more existed than matrix. The reasom was thought of pile-up around whisker.

  • The fatigue tension tests were performed by use of the specimens without and with a hole, 1/4 crack and 1/2 crack, made of SS41 and S45C steel round bars. Followings were these results. It was shown that in the base metal and the specimen with a hole the fatigue strength of the high strength steel bars was lower than that of the low strength steel bars under the low stress range. It was shown that the fatigue strength of the specimen with a hole was nearly same as that of the base metal, but the fatigue strength of the specimens with the crack was much lower than that of the base metal. It was shown that the fatigue strength of the specimens with the crack was much lower than that of the other specimens under the high stress range.

  • COD test based on fracture mechanics concept was used in this study to evaluate the fracture toughness quantitatively. Effects of specimen sizes on critical COD value for ABS EH 36 steel and its submerged arc weldments, and the variation of critical COD value depending on metallurgical/mechanical heterogeneities caused by weld thermal cycles were investigated. Experiment was performed by using specimens made from base metal and submerged arc weldments according to BS 5762. Obtained results are summarized as follows; 1) Critical COD value for base metal decreases with increasing thickness of specimen. On hand, as the reduction ratio of critical COD decreases with increasing specimen thickness, critical COD value becomes constant above a thickness of specimen. 2) Critical COD value for weldment decreases with increasing thickness of specimen and was also affected by metallurgical states of base metal. 3) Size effects for weldment was greater at the hardened region. 4) Critical COD value was affected by microstructural change due to weld thermal cycles in weldments; that is, accicular ferrite formation is favorable for increasing of COD value.

  • The need for repairing removable dentures has grown as the population had aged. The direct methods allow existing dentures to be repaired without interrupting their use. However, if patient compliance is low, direct methods may be challenging. Moreover, attaching an artificial tooth to a metal base is a complicated procedure because it necessitates casting a retentive element and soldering it to a metal base. This clinical report describes how to add an artificial tooth to a metal base, reline denture bases, and reestablish occlusion on relined removable dentures using indirect methods. Existing removable dentures were successfully repaired and their service life was efficiently extended using the methods described.

  • STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. Zirconia-based restorations have the common technical complication of delamination, or porcelain chipping, from the zirconia core. Thus the shear bond strength between the zirconia core and the veneering porcelain requires investigation in order to facilitate the material's clinical use. PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding strength of the porcelain veneer to the zirconia core and to other various metal alloys (high noble metal alloy and base metal alloy). MATERIAL AND METHODS. 15 rectangular ($4\times4\times9mm$) specimens each of zirconia (Cercon), base metal alloy (Tillite), high noble metal alloy (Degudent H) were fabricated for the shear bond strength test. The veneering porcelain recommended by the manufacturer for each type of material was fired to the core in thickness of 3mm. After firing, the specimens were embedded in the PTFE mold, placed on a mounting jig, and subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine. Load was applied at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min until fracture. The average shear strength (MPa) was analyzed with the oneway ANOVA and the Tukey's test ($\alpha$= .05). The fractured specimens were examined using SEM and EDX to determine the failure pattern. RESULTS. The mean shear strength ($\pm\;SD$) in MPa was 25.43 ($\pm\;3.12$) in the zirconia group, 35.87 ($\pm\;4.23$) in the base metal group, 38.00 ($\pm\;5.23$) in the high noble metal group. The ANOVA showed a significant difference among groups, and the Tukey' s test presented a significant difference between the zirconia group and the metal group. Microscopic examination showed that the failure primarily occurred near the interface with the residual veneering porcelain remaining on the core. CONCLUSION. There was a significant difference between the metal ceramic and zirconia ceramic group in shear bond strength. There was no significant difference between the base metal alloy and the high noble metal alloy.
