There is a kind of abnormal noise known to come from the stick-slip mechanism induced by frictional impulses during the sliding of two polymeric plates. In this work, quantitative analysis of abnormal noise is carried out based on experimental results. Some combinations of polymer plates, such as an ABS base-plate contacted to ABS, PP, MIPS, and POM plates, which are well-known materials used in home-appliances, are studied to obtain the best combination of polymer plates in order to reduce the abnormal noise. For the experiments, a rig for the test was set up and a methodology was proposed. In addition, the effects of the surface roughness of the plate, the normal loading force, and the relative sliding speed between the two contact plates were evaluated in order to understand the reason for the abnormal noise. Through this experimental work, the optimal combination of materials was ABS/POM system to reduce the noise in real industrial applications.

In the structure of ITO/N,N'-diphenyl-N,N' bis (3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine(TPD)/tris (8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum($Alq_3$)/Al device, we studied the efficiency improvement of organic light-emitting diodes due to variation of deposition rate of hole transport layer (TPD) materials using hole-size of crucible boat. The thickness of TPD and $Alq_3$ was manufactured 40 nm, 60 nm, respectively under a base pressure of $5{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr using a thermal evaporation. The $Alq_3$ used for an electron-transport and emissive layer were evaporated to be at a deposition rate of $2.5\;{\AA}/s$. When the deposition rate of TPD increased from 1.5 to $3.0\;{\AA}/s$, we studied the efficiency improvement of TPD using the hole-size of crucible is 1.0 mm. When the deposition rate of TPD is $2.5\;{\AA}/s$, we found that the average roughness is rather smoother, the luminous efficiency the external quantum efficiency is superior to the others. Compared to the two from the devices made with the deposition rate of TPD is $2.0\;{\AA}/s$ and $3.0\;{\AA}/s$, the external quantum efficiency was improved by four-times and two-times, respectively.

Electrical characteristics of organic light-emitting diodes were investigated by varying a hole-size in evaporation boat in the device structure of ITO/tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum$(Alq_3)$/Al. The device was manufactured using a thermal evaporation under a base pressure of $5{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr. The $Alq_3$ emitting organics were evaporated to be a thickness of 100 nm at a deposition rate of $1.5{\AA}/s$. A cylindrical-shaped evaporation boat was made out of stainless steel with a small size of hole on top of the boat. Several evaporation boats were made having a different hole size on top; 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, and 3.0 mm. We found that when the hole size on top of the evaporation boat is 1.0 mm, the average roughness is rather smoother compared to the other ones. Also, luminance and external quantum efficiency are superior to the others. Compared to the ones from the devices made with the hole-size of 0.8 mm boat. The luminance and external quantum efficiency of the device made with the hole-size of 1.0 mm boat were improved by a factor of seventy and thirty three, respectively. Also operating voltage is reduced to 2 V.

In this paper, we perform a complexity analysis for implementation of the ISO/IEEE 11073 Personal Health Device (PHD) standards in order to check the required system resources when ISO/IEEE 11073 PHD standards are implemented on the embedded system. Base on the implemented programs complying the PHD standards for a weighing scale, a blood pressure monitor, and a glucose meter among the various personal health devices, we make a pseudo-code. And then from the two different points of view such as program memory space and data memory space, we make a complexity analysis model. Because system resources or capability are strongly restricted in the personal health devices, our research work is very useful to estimate the required system resources.

Since nuclear power plants are being operated under high temperature and high pressure, on-line monitoring technique to detect corrosion could be more effective than off-line method in shut-off period. In this operating condition, electrochemical noise method may be suitable to monitor the corrosion. This paper aims the analysis on the relation between the cracking and electrochemical noise signal of Alloy 600 under U-bending. When electrochemical noise monitoring technique was used during SCC test, it was judge to be obvious that if cracks generate, its generation can be detected by electrochemical current noise. Cracking-related noise was defined as the noise showing 5~10 times greater than the average value of background noise bands. On the base of crack noise, crack initiation time was determined. From SCC test and electrochemical noise monitoring in $25^{\circ}C$, 0.1 M $Na_2S_4O_6$ solution (Reverse U-Bended Alloy 600 SE+), average crack initiation time was obtained as 9,046 seconds and from its initiation time, it could be defined that net crack propagation rate is the crack length divided by ${\Delta}T$(= total test period - crack initiation time). Therefore, average net crack propagation rate was obtained to be $1.18{\times}10^{-9}\;m/s$.

It is commonly requested that the steam generator tubes wall-thinned in excess of 40% should be plugged. However, the plugging criterion is known to be too conservative for some locations and types of defects and its application is limited to a single crack in spite of the fact that the occurrence of multiple through-wall cracks is more common in general. The objective of this research is to propose the optimum failure prediction models for two adjacent through-wall cracks in steam generator tubes. The conservatism of the present plugging criteria was reviewed using the existing failure prediction models for a single crack, and six new failure prediction models for multiple through-wall cracks have been introduced. Then, in order to determine the optimum ones among these new local or global failure prediction models, a series of plastic collapse tests and corresponding finite element analyses for two adjacent through-wall cracks in thin plate were carried out. Thereby, the reaction force model, plastic zone contact model and COD (Crack-Opening Displacement) base model were selected as the optimum ones for assessment of steam generator tubes with multiple through-wall cracks. The selected optimum failure prediction models, finally, were used to estimate the coalescence pressure of two adjacent through-wall cracks in steam generator tubes.
As the preceding research for the design of gangway in the next generation high speed train, the aero-acoustic noise at the gangway is calculated. For this purpose, the shape of gangway with mud flaps is assumed as the two-dimensional cavity. Then, 5 gap sizes between mud flaps of gangway are selected and parametric study is performed according to the gap sizes. From this study, the aerodynamic features such as vortex shedding, pressure, etc. are computed. Also, the aero-acoustic properties of tonal noise and overall noise are analyzed at the 3 locations of microphone and the relation between the gap size of mud flap and the noise level is assessed. Through this study, it is shown that the noise characteristics of base and specific models are better than those of other models.

This is a retrospective study on emergency patients with active oral bleeding. The study was based on a series of 135 patients treated as emergency patients at Wonju Christian Hospital, from Jan. 1, 1997, to Dec. 31, 2001. The postoperative bleeding was the most frequent cause of active oral bleeding in emergency room and bleeding from trauma and medically compromised (bleeding disorders) patients were next in order of frequency. In the injury of maxillofacial vessels, peak incidence was occurred in the inferior alveolar vessel (42.9%), followed by the submucosal vessel of lip & cheek, the superior alveolar vessel, and sublingual vessels. The most common disease of bleeding disorders was vascular wall alteration (infection, etc), followed by liver disease, thrombocytopenic purpura, anti-coagulation drugs in order. In the characteristics of dental diseases on bleeding disorders, periodontal disease and alveolar osteitis (osteomyelitis) were more common. The hemostasis was most obtained by use of wound suture, simple pressure dressing, drainage for infection control and primary interdental wiring of fracture. In the complication group, the infrequent incidence was showed in vomiting, hypovolemic shock, syncope, recurred bleeding & aspiration pneumonia. In the uncontrolled oral bleeding, the injured vessels were suspected as skull base & ethmoidal vessels. In this study, authors found that the close cooperation between the dentistry (Oral and maxillofacial surgery) and the medicine (emergency & internal medicine) was the most important for early proper control of active oral bleeding. And then post-operative wound closure, drainage for infection control and previous systemic evaluation of bleeding disorders were critical for the prevention of postoperative bleeding in the local dental clinic.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of metal artifacts on the accurate diagnosis of root fractures using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images with large and small/limited fields of view (FOVs). Materials and Methods: Forty extracted molar and premolar teeth were collected. Access canals were made in all teeth using a rotary system. In half of the teeth, fractures were created by the application of mild pressure with a hammer. The teeth were then randomly put into a wax rim on an acryl base designed in the shape of a mandible. CBCT scans were obtained using a Newtom 5G system with FOVs of $18cm{\times}16cm$ and $6cm{\times}6cm$. A metal pin was then placed into each tooth, and CBCT imaging was again performed using the same fields of view. All scans were evaluated by two oral and maxillofacial radiologists. The specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and likelihood ratios (positive and negative) were calculated. Result: The maximum levels of sensitivity and specificity (100% and 100%, respectively) were observed in small-volume CBCT scans of teeth without pins. The highest negative predictive value was found in the small-volume group without pins, whereas the positive predictive value was 100% in all groups except the large-volume group with pins. Conclusion: The specificity of CBCT decreased with the presence of a pin in the large-volume group, but not in the small-volume group.
