  • To develop the red pepper seasoning oil(RPSO), corn oil was used as the base oil. For generating hot taste and color, oleoresin capsicum and oleoresin paprika were mixed to base oil (SSO1). Then, for generating black red color, natural black pigment that is extracted from gardenia and kaoliang was added SSO1 to prepare SSO2. To magnify the hot taste, extract of red pepper, phosphoric salt and emulsifier (monogly 20) were. then added to SSO2 to prepare SSO3. This SSO3 was very similar to real red pepper seed oil as a color and taste, but its hot flavor was not enough. To resolve this problem, we mixed about 5% of another oil(SSO4), which was mingled and roasted red pepper powder with corn oil, to SSO3. In terms of above experiment, RPSO was obtained.

  • We performed an experimental research on lubricant oil in dual fuel medium-speed engines. It is important to select the appropriate lubricant oil because it could significantly affect engine lifetime and performance. We generally recommend the selection of the lubricant oil according to the fuel grades as contents in the project guide. However, it is a considerable challenge for shipyards to implement this concept because of the lack of space to install the complicated lubricating oil system for dual fuel engines. Therefore, we determine the adaptability of one-common lubricant oil for HiMSEN dual fuel engine through this experimental research. To check abnormality in gas mode operation and durability of engine components when a lubricating oil with high BN (base number) is used, overhaul inspections and lubricant oil analysis are carried out two times, and four times, respectively, during an operation of approximately 300 h. We investigated the variations in kinematic viscosity, base number, element quantity, pentane insoluble and sulfated ash in lubricant oil analysis. Moreover, we also investigated whether the deposit formation or wear occurred in various bearings, injectors, exhaust valves, intake valves, piston rings and so on through the overhaul inspections. There are no problems in the lubricant analysis and the overhaul inspections. Through the experimental research, we confirm that one-common lubricant oil should be selected according to the higher sulfur content of fuel oil in dual fuel engines.

  • Waste lubricating oil(WLO)s have been recycled as energy source through direct fuel in cement kilns and fossil power plants, or as fuel oils, or re-refined lubricating base oils. In our country, they have been recycled as low grade fuel oil through chemical treatment process. In 2003, extended producer responsibility (EPR) system was adopted from deposit system on sale of lubricating oils in order to promote their recycleing rate. However, our recycling rate of WLOs have been stagnant(below 70%) for last 5 years. And there has been no research work on recycling of WLOs as re-refined base oil until now in this country. Stabilization technology of thermally cracked oils to reduce tar and malodor and to improve their color for production of high grade fuel oil, and a novel process production of high grade re-refined lubricating base oil from WLOs have been developed and commercialized recently in Canada and U.S.A., respectively. Several countries like Australia, Italy, Germany and U.S.A., etc. are encouraging recycling companies to recycle WLOs as re-refined lubricating oil by giving greater subsidies or benefits compared to other recycling methods. They also adopt a policy to purchase re-refined lubricating oil preferentially in the federal or local governments and to recommend consumers to purchase it willingly. Based on the facts that several advanced countries have adopted a policy to recycle WLOs as re-refined base oil for saving of petroleum resource and reduction of environmental pollution, it is right time to be considered that our present policy for recycling of WLOs should be reevaluated and the new policy of their environmental-friendly and sustainable recycling should be established.

  • This thesis tried applying Ayurvedic hair and scalp care program and analyzing its effect. Ayurvedic treatment strengthens our immunity through natural healing power. I measured with MIC test and Halo test in order to examine the antibacterial efficacy against colonies which reside in head, when Ayurvedic base oils and essential oils were used on hair and scalp. Finally, I reached the results as follows. I examined the antibacterial efficacy of base oils and essential oils against Bacillus subtilis and Propionibacterium acnes, based on the MIC test with 9 kinds of base oil and 18 kinds of essential oil. By way of experiment, base oils did not show the antibacterial efficacy from all colonies, and in case of essential oils, such as Chamomile, Clary sage, Jasmine, Neroli and Rose oil, the antibacterial efficacy against two colonies did not appear by the measure of below 5%. It turned out that Thyme, Geranium, Lavender and Tea tree had an high effect on two colonies. According to the Halo test which experimented on 7 kinds of bacteria with the essential oils like Geranium, Lavender and Thyme and with the base oils like Sesame and Coconut, it went to prove that base oils was inefficient on antibiosis. It was examined that all of essential oils had the effect on antibiosis from 7 kinds of bacteria. Thyme showed the best efficacy of antibiosis in the MIC and the Halo test.

  • This paper describes the measurement technology of the dissolved hydrogen gas due to partial discharge in oil using gas sensor. For higher resolution and less error in measurement of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil, the sensor outputs with ambient temperature which affect the sensor output characteristics should be considered. The sensor output trends with ambient temperature and the properties of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil with partial discharge characteristic were analyzed through the test results. It was indicated that the sensor peak and the base voltage with measuring time were affected by ambient temperature and the measurement errors of the sensor output by temperature were reduced by using the difference between the peak and the base voltage rather than just the peak voltage. In addition, the hydrogen gas sensor outputs were increased with the increase of partial discharge energy.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the food technological properties according to different emulsion state of carthamus red pigment. For making emulsion, lecithin was used as an emulsifier and polyglycerol monooleate(PGMO) and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate(Tween 80) were used as an assistant, and glycerin, distilled water and soybean oil were used as base materials respectively. Paprika stock solution was used for comparing carthamin on the rheological properties. The results were described as following: 1. Hunter L-value was not drastically increased until passed by 8 hours for glycerin, carthamin, and lecithin mixed sample. 2. Hunter a-value was higher at carthamin added sample than others. and b-value was higher to paprika added sample than others. 3. The viscosity, shear rate and shear stress levels in which glycerin was used as base material were higher than soybean oil or distilled water. 4. In which soybean oil was used as base material. lecithin was not affected on the rheological properties. But, in which glycerin was used. the lecithin was higher affected on carthamin than paprika. 5. The value of shear stress was increased both carthamin and soybean oil. However, that of shear rate was shown similar trends.

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties of three-dimensional (3D) printed denture base resin incorporating microcapsules containing plant essential oils. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Denture base specimens containing up to 3% w/v essential oil microcapsule powders (MCPs), i.e., eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, menthol, and tea tree, in two resins (Detax and NextDent 3D+) were 3D printed using two printers (Asiga and NextDent 5100). The dispersion and interaction of the MCPs in the resin were assessed by SEM while the mechanical properties of the incorporated denture base including flexural strength (MPa), flexural modulus (MPa), Vickers hardness (VHN), and surface roughness (Ra) were also subsequently evaluated. Statistical analysis of any differences in mean values was determined using a two-way ANOVA with Tukey's post hoc testing (α = .05). RESULTS. The spherical shape of the MCPs was maintained during the mixing and polymerization/printing process. However, the Detax-Asiga group showed significant agglomeration of the MCPs even at the lowest MCP concentration levels (0.5% w/v). Overall, as the microcapsule concentration increased, the mean flexural strength decreased, though the menthol MCP groups remained compliant with the ISO standard. The flexural modulus and harness remained relatively unchanged, and the flexural modulus complied with the ISO standard regardless of the MCP concentration. Surface roughness increased with the addition of the MCPs but also remained below that required for clinical acceptance. CONCLUSION. Incorporation of microencapsulated plant essential oils into 3D printed denture base resin was successfully achieved. While incorporation negatively influenced flexural strength and surface roughness, little effect on flexural modulus and Vickers hardness was demonstrated.

  • We have investigated the performance improvement of grease by synthesizing calcium sulfonate grease as an alternative to lithium grease, which is widely used globally. Since the composition ratio of the grease, when manufactured, is usually 50% base oil and 50% thickener, using grease as a lubricant in a cryogenic environment is not encouraged due to its inferior low-temperature performance. In this study, we have synthesized three types of calcium sulfonate grease with paraffin oil and PAO-based base oil and thickener. Furthermore, lithium grease was synthesized via saponification with PAO-based base oil, lithium hydroxide, 12-hydroxystearic acid, and sebacic acid. We have measured low-temperature characteristics using a rheometer and low-temperature torque meter, and tribology characteristics were obtained using a four-ball lubricant tester and schwingung reibung verschleiß (SRV). As a result, the flow point of the calcium sulfonate grease synthesized with a PAO-based base oil and thickener was found to be -40℃, overcoming the existing calcium sulfonate grease's low-temperature limitation. Moreover, the synthesized calcium sulfonate grease showed low-temperature performance similar to that of lithium grease synthesized with PAO base oil, but superior anti-wear, extreme pressure, coefficient of friction, heat resistance, adhesion, and corrosion resistance. It is thus expected to commercially replace the existing lithium grease.
