  • In this paper, a hybrid slot antenna is designed and fabricated for wireless LAN at 5.8㎓ band. The hybrid slot antenna is consisted of the inductively-fed slot and capacitively-fed slot. To obtain wide bandwidth, the inductively-fed slot is designed at 5.3㎓ and the capacitively-fed slot is designed at 5.8㎓ Important parameters in the design are slot width and CPW length. The hybrid slot antenna is simulated by using Ensemble 6.0. The measured results of this antenna are compared with its simulated results. The resonant frequency of fabricated hybrid slot antenna is 5.8㎓, the bandwidth for VSWR<1.5 is 28% and the gain is 5 ㏈i. The 3-㏈ beamwidths in E-plane and H-plane are 60°and 44°, respectively.

  • Transmission control protocols have to overcome common problems in wireless networks. TCP employing both packet loss discrimination mechanism and available bandwidth estimation algorithm, known as the good existing solution, shows significant performance enhancement in wireless networks. For instance, TCP New Jersey which exhibits high throughput in wireless networks intends to improve TCP performance by using available bandwidth estimation and congestion warning. Even though it achieves 17% and 85% improvements in terms of goodput over TCP Westwood and TCP Reno, respectively, we further improve it by exploring maximized available bandwidth estimation, handling bit-error-rate error recovery, and effective adjustment of sending rate for retransmission timeout. Hence, we propose TCP NJ+, showing that for up to 5% packet loss rate, it outperforms other TCP variants by 19% to 104% in terms of goodput when the network is in bi-directional background traffic.

  • In case of wireless sensor networks being applied to a target environment having continuous data transfer, high-speed data transmission and processing is necessary to meet increased bandwidth needs. This paper proposes a novel multipath routing algorithm to increase the bandwidth of continuous data stream for the wireless sensor network using dual channel routers. We evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm in the wireless sensor network using the dual channel touter based on ZigBee protocol. According to the experimental evaluation, the proposed algorithm showed outstanding performance enhancement with the bandwidth of 150kbps, which is about twice of existing single channel router.

  • In this paper, a new parallel CMOS self-bias differential amplifier is designed to use in high-speed analog signal processing circuits. The designed parallel CMOS self-bias differential amplifier is developed by using internal biasing circuits and the complement gain stages which are parallel connected. And also, the parallel architecture of the designed parallel CMOS self-bias differential amplifier can improve the gain and gain-bandwidth product of the typical CMOS self-bias differential amplifier. With 1.8V $0.8{\mu}m$ CMOS process parameter, the results of HSPICE show that the designed parallel CMOS self-bias differential amplifier has a dc gain and a gain-bandwidth product of 64 dB and 49 MHz respectively.

  • Rapid growth of digitalization in telecommunication and broadcasting and remarkable enhancement in broadband and high speed transmission capability of media raised a problem of integrating communication and broadcasting. In order to implement this, the government has selected construction of Broadband Convergence Network (BcN) as a main new growth engine of the country. The BcN will be realized based on FTTH and Broadband Home Network (BHN) will be implemented through this solution. Transfer rate and bandwidth required for the BcN to be constructed aiming at integration of communication and broadcasting will be specified and the performance of basic transmission media, the plastic optical fiber, will be discussed in order to present its appropriateness.

  • In this paper, we propose a new multiple access scheme for VSAT(Very Small Aperture Terminal) data communications. The proposed scheme has better performance in terms of delay throughput than Controlled Multiaccess Scheme which has excellent performance. The proposed scheme use the spare reservation method, adaptation method to offered load, and fixed bandwidth reservation method. In this paper, we analyze the performance using simple queueing model and present the simulation results. When network traffic is very low, the new scheme and the controlled multiaccess scheme have almost the same access delay characteristic. As the network load becomes higher, the new scheme's access delay gain becomes larger. Futhermore, even when the network traffic is very high it is possible to access satellite link within the delay similar to one round-trip delay. In addition to access delay performance enhancement, the new scheme has facility that supports fixed bandwidth reservation. So it shows more enhanced performance in the environment that stream traffic is dominant such as in VSAT communication environment.

  • In this study, we have tried to find the optimized design variables of the matching layer which is important part of thickness mode ultrasonic transducer and finally reach the conclusion that the electrical property of piezo-element must be under consideration when the optimized acoustic impedance is estimated. Proper expression of the effective impedance of front load at free resonant frequency(: $Z_{f}$ $^{(0)}$ /) has been induced by introducing the principle of binomial multilayer transformer and gradient based numerical method is utilized to find the most acceptable value of $Z_{ f}$/$^{(0)}$ . Optimized point of acoustic impedance can be calculated directly from $Z_{f}$ $^{(0)}$ using some simple formula which we propose. We also verify our result by both numerical and experimental method and get a good enhancement especially it concern to the bandwidth of ultrasonic transducer.

  • This paper investigates the performance of the transmission control protocol (TCP) transport protocol over IEEE 802.11 infrastructure based wireless networks. A wireless link is generally characterized by high transmission errors, random interference and a varying latency. The erratic packet losses usually lead to a curbing of the flow of segments on the TCP connection and thus limit TCP's performance. This paper examines the impact of the lossy nature of IEEE 802.11 wireless networks on the TCP performance and proposes a scheme to improve the performance of TCP over wireless links. A negative acknowledgment scheme, selective negative acknowledgment (SNACK), is applied on TCP over wireless networks and a series of ns-2 simulations are performed to compare its performance against that of other TCP schemes. The simulation results confirm that SNACK and its proposed enhancement SNACK-S, which incorporates a bandwidth estimation model at the sender, outperform conventional TCP implementations in 802.11 wireless networks.

  • For the performance enhancement of communication system, high quality filters are required. Also a minimization of size of filter is required for the interation of devices in the limited area. Conventional metal filters made of copper can be substituted by high quality high temperature superconducting(HTS) films for better performance. Hairpin type filters have been designed with the center frequency 14 GHz for the size reduction. 3-pole and 4-pole filters centered at 14 GHz with the bandwidth of about 300 MHz were designed and fabricated. With the simulation results, the frequency responses showed low insertion loss and sharp skirts characteristics. The frequency response of HTS 14 GHz fi1ter was measured at 77 K and compared with the simulation results. We have compared YBCO filters and copper filters which were made with the same design rules. Simulated and measured frequency responses reveal that HTS YBCO hairpin type bandpass filters show better performance than copper filters.

  • We describe a comb-mode resolving spectroscopic technique by direct time-domain phase correction of unstable interferograms obtained from loosely locked two femtosecond lasers. A low-cost continuous wave laser and conventional repetition rate stabilization method were exploited for locking carrier and envelope phase of interferograms, respectively. We intentionally set the servo control at low bandwidth, resulting in severe interferograms' fluctuation to demonstrate the capability of the proposed correction method. The envelope phase of each interferogram was estimated by a quadratic fit of carrier peaks to correct timing fluctuation of interferograms in the time domain. After envelope phase correction on individual interferograms, we successfully demonstrated 1 Hz linewidth of RF comb-mode over 200 GHz optical spectral-bandwidth with 10-times signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) enhancement compared to the spectrum without correction. Besides, the group delay difference between two femtosecond pulses is successfully estimated through a linear slope of phase information.
