  • This paper investigates the restoration schemes which are applied to the MPLS domain upon a network failure. We define the following three restoration service models by combining the various restoration schemes: "FIS-based protection service" (FIS: failure indication signal), "inversion traffic protection service" and "1+1 protection service". After a qualitative analysis of the performance in them, we have analyzed it on quantitative basis by the simulation. According to the simulation results, "1+1 protection service" guarantees the fastest and most lossless restoration service among them; however, it results in consuming considerable bandwidth and producing an amount of control traffic, which means poor network utilization. On the other hand, "FIS-based protection service" spends less bandwidth and generates less control traffic, which means better network utilization, but produces poor restoration service. "Inversion traffic protection service" provides the medium restoration service and utilization between "1+1 protection service" and "FIS-based protection service."

  • In a high speed spindle system, it is very important to monitor the state of rotating rotor. Particularly in active control spindle system, the position sensor must provide feedback to the control system on the exact position of the rotor. In order to monitor the state of a high speed spindle exactly, high accuracy and wide frequency bandwidth of sensors are important. The focus in this paper is to make a fiber optic sensor for monitoring rotor of magnetic bearing, to design the circuit for detecting optical signal, and to evaluation static and dynamic characteristics of fiber optic sensor.

  • The purpose of this study is to design a flexural structure that has a function of pan and tilt for an artificial eyeball. The artificial eyeball system has a function of image stabilization, which compensate panning and tilting vibration of the body on which the artificial eyeball is attached. The target closed loop control bandwidth is 50Hz, so the mechanical resonance frequency is required to be more than the control bandwidth, which is a tough design problem because of a big mass of camera and actuator. In this study, the design process including the selection of the principal parameters by numerical analysis with ANSYS will be described, as well as the design results and frequency response.

  • In this article, we present a new slow-start variant, which improves the throughput of transmission control protocol (TCP) Vegas. We call this new mechanism Gallop-Vegas because it quickly ramps up to the available bandwidth and reduces the burstiness during the slow-start phase. TCP is known to send bursts of packets during its slow-start phase due to the fast window increase and the ACK-clock based transmission. This phenomenon causes TCP Vegas to change from slow-start phase to congestion-avoidance phase too early in the large bandwidth-delay product (BDP) links. Therefore, in Gallop-Vegas, we increase the congestion window size with a rate between exponential growth and linear growth during slow-start phase. Our analysis, simulation results, and measurements on the Internet show that Gallop-Vegas significantly improves the performance of a connection, especially during the slow-start phase. Furthermore, it is implementation feasible because only sending part needs to be modified.

  • In ATM Network, many algorithms have been proposed for rate-based ABR flow control. The object of these Algorithms is to turn around from cell loss and to use the unused bandwidth by ABR Traffic. These Algorithms are applied to control ABR Traffic by EFCI and ER switches. In previous paper, we showed the using rate of bandwidth for the characteristic of each algorithm applied these algorithm network. In this paper, we will do that to apply these algorithms to a network and to make a graph of characteristic of each algorithm.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a band stop filter (BSF) for pre-processing of image sequences before encoding. By pixel-wise temporal filtering of the image sequences using the BSF, the bandwidth and noise of the signal are reduced, while preserving the image quality in view of human visual perceptions. As a result, when compared to the original image sequences, te pre-filtered image sequence requires lower bit-rates for encoding, while there is not much degradation in quality. Also, it has been shown that the proposed BSF causes less smearing and blurring than the conventional recursive low pass filter for bandwidth and noise reductions.

  • In this paper a simulation has been performed to compare and evaluate the performance between the EPRCA(Enhanced Proportional Rate Control Algorithm) and EMRCA(Explicit Max_min Rate Control Algorithm) switches. The variation of the ACR at the source end system, the queue length, the utilization rate of the link bandwidth and the share fairness at the transient and steady states are used as the evaluation criteria for the simulation. The EMRCA switch is more stable than the EPRCA switch and reduces its buffer size. Also, it achieves a higher utilization rate of the link bandwidth than the EPRCA switch. The hardware complexity of the EMRCA switch is significantly lower than the EPRCA and other rate-based switches. Since it eliminates the necessity of the floating-point operation for calculation of the MACR(Mean Allowed Cell Rate) at the switch.

  • Control network adopted in the national power-plant or manufactory are mostly vendor-dependent products, which have their own special specification, components and individual communication methods. These systems not only raise installation cost, but also bring many difficulties to maintenance and extension. To overcome these problems, this paper introduces a development and application case of a new "PC/Ethernet-based fieldbus" architecture and protocol to be used in mid-level fieldbus. The designed system has a basic idea of "3 Layers fieldbus over Standard-LAN" and implemented on PCs. PC gives user friendly environment. By using an open standard Ethernet in layer 1,2, the system has low cost, wide communication bandwidth and high compatibility. Layer 3 protocol designed for large realtime data communication makes user bypass TCP/IP layer and gives user direct access to the Ethernet. This new protocol eliminates potential collision of Ethernet, and transmits large periodic/non-periodic control data by using long-frame/wide-bandwidth of Ethernet effectively, and offers simple API-Services to the upper layer. Since the system have installed in H-power plant simulator and U-nuclear power plant simulator in Korea, it have been proved to be efficient and stable without any trouble in realtime communication service for full-scope plant simulator that has a lot of control elements.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance benefits of broadband ATM networks when the call control and management flows are separated from user data flows. The virtual path tunneling concept for control and management flows are applied to the same physical ATM networks. The behaviors of channel throughput and transfer delay are analyzed. It results that the proposed virtual short-cut paths can maintain the network being stable with acceptable bandwidth. They are very useful to provide the stable control and management capabilities for Internet and mobile applications in the broadband ATM networks. In our numerical results, the effective throughputs of the proposed virtual shout-ut channel are about three times than those of end-to-end user data channels with hop distances of 10, and about two times than those with hop distance of 5 when the link blocking probability increases to 0.1. It concludes that the effective channel bandwidth are greatly reduced down while physical links are not stable and user traffic flows are occasionally overflowed.

  • The conventional transport protocols, developed on top of the low-bandwidth high-error network services, exhibit poor performances when operating in the new high-bandwidth low-error networks. A new transport protocol HSTP(High Speed Transport Protocol) was proposed to take advantage of the new network environment. This paper gives a performance evaluation by simulation technique of the proposed HSTP and conventional TP4(Transport Protocol class 4) in their data trans-fer characteristics. The performance variation by HSTP and TP4 are investigated when their various error control techniques are employed, three different techniques for HSTP, and two for TP4. The performance enhancement in HSTP is also evaluated when the rate control technique is used as part of the flow control mechanisms.
