  • This paper presents a mathematical-physical model to predict the performance of a gas pusher used as a separation system powered by a gas generator. A quasi-steady model is used in order to aid ballistic analysis for a propellant actuated device(PAD). The empirical coefficients of heat loss and friction were determined from experiments. The analytical approach of combustion, flow and movement of a piston inside the chamber of the PAD, consisted of a gas generator and a gas pusher, was simulated by numerical method based on the grain configuration design of the gas generator. The prediction method developed can be usefully applied to the design of separation mechanism systems.

  • The intermediate mixing chamber is one of various methods for improving the regression rate and combustion efficiency of the hybrid rocket. The mixing chamber with its non-combustible material makes the propulsion performance increase, but it leads to a low fuel-loading density in the combustion chamber; therefore, this performance-related trade-off between the mixing chamber and the low fuel-loading density was studied. In this study, the trade-off was conducted by comparing the intermediate-mixing-chamber case with a w/o-mixing-chamber case. The small hybrid-sounding rocket is designed with internal ballistics for comparing the rocket length to the weight. In addition, an external ballistic analysis was conducted for comparing the performances of the w/- and w/o-mixing-chamber cases. As a result, the intermediate-mixing-chamber case shows that the length and the weight were decreased to 12 % and 8 %, respectively; furthermore, when compared with the normal cases, the estimated altitude result of the w/-mixing-chamber case was increased to approximately 75 m.

  • A hybrid sounding rocket carrying about 10kg payload reaching up to 15km altitude has been designed. The commercial seamless aluminium tube and liquid ${N_2}O$ without pressurization devices were chosen as rocket motor case and oxidizer supply system respectively. A hybrid rocket engine performing required propulsion impulse is designed with time dependent internal ballistic scheme. Engine performance, aerodynamic characteristics, and trajectory were predicted by a integral technique of internal ballistics and external ballistics. The design results were evaluated by comparison with previous experimental data, technical reports, and literatures.

  • A unsteady internal ballistic analysis model was proposed to take account for the variance of local variance of pressure and velocity along the grain surface of a hybrid rocket combustor. The model of concern in the study was fairly comparable with the test result. The local variation of the oxidizer mass flow rate along grain surface results in chamber pressure, regression rate, and gas velocity change along its flow direction.

  • Hydrodynamic ram of aircraft fuel tanks is one of main ballistic battle damages of an aircraft and has great importance to airframe survivability design. Basic concept, physics and research history of hydrodynamic ram are investigated. The penetration and internal detonation of a simple fuel tank and ICW(Intermediate Complexity Wing) are analyzed by computational method. Structural rupture and fluid burst are analytically realized using general coupling and coupling surface interaction. The results such as fluid pressure, tank stress and displacement are shown and future research chances are suggested based on the study.

  • Computer simulation with FEM is very useful to analyze hypervelocity impact phenomena that are tremendously expensive or otherwise too impractical to analyze experimentally. Shock physics can be efficiently handled by mesh adaptation which allows finite element mesh to be locally optimized to resolve moving shock wave in explosion. In this paper, an adaptive meshing technique based upon quadtree data structure was applied to resolve ballistic impact phenomena. The technique can adaptively refine a mesh in the neighborhood of a shock and coarsen the mesh for the smooth flow behind the shock according to a criterion. The criterion for refinement and coarsening is based upon the standard deviation of the gradient of shock pressure on the associated field. Shock simulation starts with the rough mesh of the pressure field and mesh density is increased locally under the criterion at each time step. The results show that the mesh adaptation enables to minimize the global computation error of FEM and to increase storage and computational saving compared to the fixed resolution of the conventional static mesh approach.

  • Solid rocket propulsion systems are generally used for tactical missiles due to the structural and operational simplicity. Nevertheless, various kinds of design factors including outer diameter, length, weight, loading efficiency of propellant grain effects to thrust performance. Dual thrust is beneficial to range extension and terminal velocity increasement. But loading efficiency becomes low in case to obtain dual thrust performance by burning surface control. So, It is predicted to be reasonable to obtain dual thrust performance with high/low burning rate propellants. This study is on internal ballistic analysis and ground test to confirm dual thrust performance.

  • As the propellant mass is being accelerated out of the gun chamber along with the projectile, a continuous pressure gradient exists between the end of chamber and the base of the projectile. For this reason, the base pressure-travel curve is very important to design a conventional gun barrel in the interior ballistics, but it is not obtained briefly by empirical or theoretical method. In this paper, a simple relation between chamber pressure and base pressure was determined by the factor of base pressure(Cb) obtained from the experimental method. The simple relation gives a reasonable prediction for the reduction of pressure between the breech and the base of projectile owing to the axial gradient in the gun tube. The predictions have been validated by the infrared screen sensor and the PRODAS(PROjectile Design and Analysis System) for interior ballistic systems. Therefore, the base pressure-travel curve could be calculated from the chamber pressure measured by piezoelectric sensor. The base pressure-travel curve obtained from the simple relation offers initial information to gun barrel designer and is used for calculation of muzzle velocity.

  • This paper proposes a single control strategy to solve the problem of trans-media vehicle difficult control. The proposed control strategy is just to control the vehicle's air navigation, but not to control the underwater navigation. The hydrodynamic model of a vehicle when entering water obliquely at low speed has been founded to analyze the motion characteristics. Two methods have been used to simulate the vehicle entering water in the same condition: numerical simulation method and theoretical model solving method. And the results of the two methods can validate the hydrodynamic model founded in this paper. The entering water motion in the conditions of different velocity, different angle, and different attack angle has been simulated by this hydrodynamic model and the simulation has been analyzed. And the change rule of the vehicle's gestures and position when entering water has been obtained by analysis. This entering water rule will guide the follow-up of a series of research, such as the underwater navigation, the exiting water process and so on.

  • The multifocal multiphoton microscopy (MMM) enables high-speed imaging by the concurrent scanning and detection of multiple foci generated by lenslet array or diffractive optical element. The MMM system mainly suffers from crosstalk generated by scattered emission photons that form ghost images among adjacent channels. The ghost image which is a duplicate of the image acquired in sub-images significantly degrades overall image quality. To eliminate the ghost image, the photon reassignment method was established using maximum likelihood estimation. However, this post-processing method generally takes a longer time than image acquisition. In this regard, we propose a novel strategy for rapid noise reduction in the MMM system based upon Monte-Carlo (MC) simulation. Ballistic signal, scattering signal, and scattering noise of each channel are quantified in terms of photon distribution launched in tissue model based on MC simulation. From the analysis of photon distribution, we successfully eliminated the ghost images in the MMM sub-images. If the priori MC simulation under a certain optical condition is established at once, our simple, but robust post-processing technique will continuously provide the noise-reduced images, while significantly reducing the computational cost.
