A Study on the Linear Compensation Method of Ideal Surface Roughness to Actual Roughness in Milling (밀링에서 기하학적 표면조도와 측정조도의 선형보정 방법에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, a numeric model for the prediction of ideal surface roughness in the rounded end mill was derived from the shape of the tool and feed per tooth. The model is compared with the well-known model of a ball and flat end mill. The ideal surface roughness was matched to the actual surface roughness by the linear equation, from which the empirical constant should be gathered from the test machining systems in the industry.

  • This paper proposes methods for pencil machining and uncut area machining. Based on Z-map represented by triangular facets, self-intersection-free offset surface is generated with K-offset method in case of ball mill and flat mill Pencil machining can elliminate overload area before main machining rough, semi-finish and finish cutting,preventing fluctuations of cutting forces in concave regions form causing bad machining condition. Low productivity is caused by uncut area which has excessive or irreguar finishing allowance. Uncut area machining has the finishing allowance keep uniformly on part surface. This paper deals with two types of uncaut area, machining detection of excessive area and user-defined area.

A Study on The 5-Axis CNC Machining of Impeller (임펠러 5-축 CNC 가공에 관한 연구)

  • The manufacture of an impeller typically requires the 5-axis CNC machining, since the impeller is usually under working conditions such as high speed, high temperature, and high pressure. Thus, this study contributes to development of an exclusive CAM system for effective 5-axis CNC machining of a ruled surface type impeller. In this study, the sampled impeller is made of blades and a body and the blade consists of ruled surfaces between hub curve and shroud curve. In the post processing for 5-axis NC part program, the cutter axis direction vector is the straighten vector on ruled surface. The position of ball center in ball end mill cutter is decided on the interference check between the cutter and body surface of impeller using with the modified z-map method that z-axis is the same of cutter axis direction vector. The exclusive CAM system for an impeller developed in this study was very effective for designs and 50-axis machining of a ruled surface type impeller.

  • $0.10Pb(Sb_{1/2}Sn_{1/2})O_3-0.25PbTiO_3-0.65PbZrO_3+MnO_2(0.18mol%)$, NiO(0.15mol%) temary compound ceramics won fabricated by the mixed-oxide method. Noise properties of the pyroelectric infrared sensor were investigated with particle size of the raw materials and gain size of the specimens. Particle size were decreased and sintered density, voltage resposivity were increased with increasing the ball-mill times. The specimen ball-milled for a 80[hr] showed a good pop-corn noise properties.

  • The exhaust gas from vehicle engines and industrial boilers contains considerable amount of harmful nitrogen monoxide(NO) which causes air pollusion and acid rain. To remove NO catalytic reduction processes using Cu ion exchanged ZSM-5 zeolite have been widely studied. In this study, an attempt was made to fabricate Cu/zeolite catalyst by using high energy ball mill. The catalytic performance of ball milled Cu/ZSM-5 zeolites is analyzed and optimum copper contents was determined. The processing variables were reaction temperature and copper contents. Complete removal of NO gas was obtained at the temperature of 553 K on 10wt.% CU/ZSM-5 mechanically alloyed composite powders. Mechanically alloyed CU/ZSM-5 catalyst showed homogeneous distribution of Cu in ZSM-5.

  • This study deals with the machining of sculptured surfaces on 5-axis CNC milling machine with end mill cutter. The study (I) has the following contents. In 5-axis CNC milling, CL-data consist of CC-data and cutter axis direction vector at the CC-point. Thus, in machining of the sculptured surface on 5-axis CNC milling machine, determination of the direction vector of the milling cutter is very important. The direction vector is obtained by the fact that bottom plane of the milling cutter must not interfere with the free-form surface being machined. The interference is checked by the z-map method which can be applied in all geometric types of the sculptured surfaces. After generating NC part programs from 5-axis post-processing algorithms, sculptured surfaces were machined with 5-axis CNC milling machine (CINCINNATI MILACRON, 20V-80). From these machining tests, it was shown that the machining of the free-form surfaces on 5-axis CNC milling machine with the end mill has smaller cusp heights and shorter cutting time than on 3-axis CNC milling machine with the ball-end mill. Thus, 5-axis CNC end milling was effective machining method for sculptured surfaces. The study (II) deals with the prediction of cusp height and the determination of tool path interval for the 5-axis machining of sculptured surfaces on the basis of study(I).

  • The effects of$ Fe_2O_3$ aggregation on the sintering of Ba-ferrite (BaFe$_{12}O_{19}$) were studied. $BaCO_3-Fe_2O_3$ mixtures were prepared by partial precipitation mixing and ball-mill mixing method using two different $Fe_2O_3 $powders. Techniques employed were TG, XRD and SEM. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the over all reaction basically consists of the two consecutive reaction; $BaCO_3 + 6Fe_2O_3\;{\longrightarrow}\;BaFe_2O_3 + 5Fe_2O_3 + CO_2{\uparrow}\;BaFe_2O_4 + 5Fe_2O_3 \;{\longrightarrow}\;BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ It is also shown that the aggregation state of $Fe_2O_3$ raw materials, as well as the mixing method, has a remarkable effect on solid state reaction between $BaCO_3\;and\;Fe_2O_3$.

Gas Sensing Characteristics of WO3:In2O3 Prepared by Ball-mill Time (볼밀시간에 의한 WO3:In2O3 가스센서의 감응특성)

  • [ $WO_3$ ]powders were ball-milled with an alumina ball for 0-72 hours. $In_2O_3$ doped $WO_3$ was prepared by soaking ball-milled $WO_3$ in an $InCl_3$ solution. The mixed powder was annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in an air atmosphere. A paste for screen-printing the thick film was prepared by mixing the $WO_3$:In2O3 powders with ${\alpha}$-terpinol and glycerol. $In_2O_3$ doped $WO_3$ thick films were fabricated into a gas sensor by a screen-printing method on alumina substrates. The structural properties of the $WO_3$:$InO_3$ thick films were a monoclinic phase with a (002) dominant orientation. The particle size of the $WO_3$:$InO_3$ decreased with the ball-milling time. The sensing characteristics of the $In_2O_3$ doped $WO_3$ were investigated by measuring the electrical resistance of each sensor in the test-box. The highest sensitivity to 5 ppm $CH_4$ gas and 5 ppm $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas was observed in the ball-milled $WO_3$:$InO_3$ gas sensors at 48 hours. The response time of $WO_3$:$In_2O_3$ gas sensors was 7 seconds and recovery time was 9 seconds for the methane gas.

Characteristics of Thick Film Gas Sensors Using Nano ZnO:CNT (나노 ZnO:CNT를 이용한 후막 가스센서의 특성연구)

  • The effects of an addition of CNT on the sensing properties of nano ZnO:CNT-based gas sensors were studied for $H_2S$ gas. The nano ZnO sensing materials were grown by a hydrothermal reaction method. The nano ZnO:CNT was prepared by ball-milling method. The weight range of the CNT addition on the ZnO surface was from 0 to 10%. The nano ZnO:CNT gas sensors were fabricated by a screen-printing method on alumina substrates. The structural and morphological properties of the ZnO:CNT sensing materials were investigated by XRD, EDS, and SEM. The XRD patterns revealed that nano ZnO:CNT powders with a wurtzite structure were grown with (1 0 0), (0 0 2), and (1 0 1) dominant peaks. The size of the ZnO was about 210 nm, as confirmed by SEM images. The sensitivity of the nano ZnO:CNT-based sensors was measured for 5 ppm of $H_2S$ gas at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air with that in target gases.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the machining technique of the constant control of cutting speed in order to improve precision machining and tool life in high speed machining using ball end mill. Cutting speed is changed in machining free form surface like free form surface. So, we don't have supreme surface form and toll life on machining. The way to solving this problem is that we should be settled to optimal cutting speed in free form surface machining. And, to improve precision machining is executed high speed machining method to output optimum NC data with developed constant control of cutting speed program after modeling of CAD/CAM. In this paper, a comparison was made of the cutting precision and tool life in conventional cutting and those in free form surface machining applying the program developed.
