Evaluation of the rehabilitation system with active load control by using EMG biofeedback (재활운동을 위한 능동형 근전도 바이오피드백 시스템 평가)

  • In this study, the active exercise load control system was developed that monitors patient's muscular condition based on EMG signals and controls the load by biofeedback in real-time. In order to select appropriate muscular parameter for the system, the pre-exercise test was performed to obtain EMG signals from healthy 12 males. Subsequently, the main exercise test was performed to evaluate the active exercise load control system based on IEMG: a selected muscular parameter, on healthy 10 males without musculoskeletal disorder. The accuracy and availability of developed system were confirmed through observing changes between exercise load and IEMG. A correlation was analyzed between the fatigue of muscles and RPE indicating the individual subjective fatigue. As a result, the active exercise load control system that was suggested in this study could be useful to control the initial load-balancing and the amount of exercise appropriate for individual in rehabilitation exercise therapy.

The role of microRNAs in cell fate determination of mesenchymal stem cells : balancing adipogenesis and osteogenesis

  • Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells capable of differentiating into adipocytes, osteoblasts, or chondrocytes. A mutually inhibitory relationship exists between osteogenic and adipogenic lineage commitment and differentiation. Such cell fate decision is regulated by several signaling pathways, including Wnt and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP). Accumulating evidence indicates that microRNAs (miRNAs) act as switches for MSCs to differentiate into either osteogenic or adipogenic lineage. Different miRNAs have been reported to regulate a master transcription factor for osteogenesis, such as Runx2, as well as molecules in the Wnt or BMP signaling pathway, and control the balance between osteoblast and adipocyte differentiation. Determination of Initial Conditions for Tetrahedral Satellite Formation

  • This paper presents an algorithm that can provide initial conditions for formation flying at the beginning of a region of interest to maximize scientific mission goals in the case of a tetrahedral satellite formation. The performance measure is to maximize the quality factor that affects scientific measurement performance. Several path constraints and periodicity conditions at the beginning of the region of interest are identified. The optimization problem is solved numerically using a direct transcription method. Our numerical results indicate that there exist an optimal configuration and states of a tetrahedral satellite formation. Furthermore, the initial states and algorithm presented here may be used for reconfiguration maneuvers and fuel balancing problems.

  • This paper presents the forward kinematics of the Casing Oscillator that is a construction machine. The Structure of the Casing Oscillator is similar to those of 4 degree-of-freedom mechanisms with a redundancy. With analytical (geometrical) methods, the solutions of the forward position kinematics problem are significantly found by both solving an 8$^{th}$ -order polynomial equation in one unknown variable and using one over-constraint geometrical equation which can be derived under the condition of a redundancy. The proposed forward kinematics has closed-form solutions and allows Auto-Balancing control of the moving platform in real time. Numerical examples are presented and the results are verified by an inverse kinematics analysis.

Development of walking assist system for the people with lower limb-disability

  • There is some equipment that helps user to exercise and to walk. But almost all equipments require some physical strength of their muscles. So we developed a system that could assist walking action of the people with lower-limb disability. The system called as walking stand adopted the balancing mechanism which assures the stable walking, and the 4 link-based mechanism that had 2 degrees of freedom on each leg. The walking stand uses four motors and has two sets of the special link-structure to simulate the human walking mechanism. With our system, even serious disabled with lower-limb disability may enjoy walking rehabilitation. And by adjusting the power, it can be used as the walking assistant mechanism instead of conventional wheelchairs. Experiments showed that our walking stand is applicable to the rehabilitation and also to the mobile device in our daily life for those people who do not have enough physical ability to walk by themselves.

  • In wireless sensor networks where there is no centralized base station, each node has limited transmission range and the multi-hop routing for transmitting data to the destination is the one of the important technical issues. In particular, the wireless sensor network is not powered by external power source but operates by its own battery, so it is required to maximize the network life through efficient use of energy. To balance the power consumption, the residual power based adaptive power control is required in routing protocol. In this paper, we propose a routing protocol that prolongs the network lifetime by balancing the power consumption among the nodes by controlling the transmit power according to the residual power. We evaluate the proposed routing protocol using extensive simulation, and the results show that the proposed routing scheme can balance the power consumption and prolong network lifetime.

An Improved SVPWM Control of Voltage Imbalance in Capacitors of a Single-Phase Multilevel Inverter

  • This paper presents a modified Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation Technique (SVPWM), which solves the well-known problem of voltage imbalance in the capacitors of a single-phase multilevel inverter. The proposed solution is based on the measurement of DC voltage levels at each capacitor of the inverter DC bus. The measurements are then used to adjust the size of the active vectors within the SVPWM algorithm to keep the voltage waveform sinusoidal regardless of any voltage imbalance on the DC link capacitors. When a voltage deviation exceeds a predetermined hysteresis band, the correspondent voltage vector is restricted to restore the voltage level to an acceptable threshold. Hence, the need for external voltage regulators for the voltage capacitors is eliminated. The functionality of the proposed algorithm is successfully demonstrated through simulations and experiments on a grid tied application.

  • 본 논문은 3레벨 NPC 인버터의 중성점 전위 변동 시 퍼지제어기를 이용한 중성점 전위 제어 방법을 제안한다. 오프셋 전압을 퍼지제어기의 입력으로 하여 공간벡터의 스위칭 타이밍의 조절변수를 출력함으로써 기존의 오프셋 전압의 복잡한 수학적 모델링 없이 쉽고 간단하게 중성점 전압을 제어한다. 제안하는 제어기법의 우수성을 보이기 위하여 10kW급 계통연계 3-레벨 NPC인버터 모델을 기반으로 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다.

  • 직렬연결형 다중레벨 컨버터(cascade multilevel converter)는 각기 절연된 DC전압원과 H-bridge 인버터가 한 단위를 이루고, 각 단위 인버터의 출력을 직렬 연결한 구조로서, 부하(전동기)에 정현파에 가까운 전압을 인가할 수 있는 시스템이다 각 H-bridge인버터의 DC전압원으로는 배터리 또는 커패시터등이 사용되는데, 일반적인 경우 각 H-bridge 컨버터의 입출력 파워가 틀려지게 되며, 따라서 DC전압간 불균형이 발생하게 된다. DC전압간 불균형이 발생하면 원하는 전압벡터를 정확하게 발생시킬 수 없게 되고, 고조파 하모닉이 만들어질뿐 아니라, 경우에 따라서는 DC전압원측에과 전압 또는 저전압 폴트가 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문은 N개의 H-bridge 인버터의 DC전압을 측정하지 않고, 전체 상출력 전압만을 측정하여 각 DC전압을 추정하고, 스위칭 패턴을 변경하여 DC전압을 평형화하는 방법을 제안한다. 모의실험을 통해서 알고리즘의 동작여부를 검증하였다.

  • This paper describes a novel switching algorithm of series connected power semiconductors for high voltage applications. In order to improve the reliability and efficiency of high voltage static power converters, we study on the switching characteristics of series connected power semiconductors and then propose "a servo control of snubber capacitor value" for the dynamic voltage balancing under turn-off state in series connected power semiconductors. Finally, we illustrate the validity of this algorithm by computer simulation and experimental results.
