With the deployment of 5G infrastructure, content delivery network (CDN) will be a key role to provide explosive growing services for the independent media and YouTube which contain high-speed mobile contents. Without a local cache, the mobile backhaul and fronthaul should endure huge burden of bandwidth request for users as the increase number of direct accesses from contents providers. To deal with this issue, this paper fist presents both fronthaul solutions for CDN that use dark fibers and a passive optical network (PON). On top of that, we propose the aggregated content request specialized for PON caching and evaluate and compare its performance to legacy schemes through the simulation. The proposed PON caching scheme can reduce average access time of up to 0.5 seconds, 1/n received request packets, and save 60% of backhaul bandwidth compared to the no caching scheme. This work can be a useful reference for service providers and will be extended to further improve the hit ratio of cache in the future.

The paper analyzes the sum spectral efficiency (SE) for a heterogeneous cellular network (HetNet) which has the backhaul, provided with wireless full-duplex massive multiple-input multiple-out (MIMO) with hardware distortions. We derive approximate expressions to obtain the uplink/downlink sum SE of the backhaul. The analytic results have been shown to be exact when compared to Monte Carlo simulations. From the analysis, it is shown that the desired signal and the hardware distortion noise have the same order. The sum SE generally improves when the number of receive antennas increases but degrades when the hardware quality reduces. A sum SE performance ceiling is introduced by the hardware quality level.

The deployment of mobile femtocellular networks can enhance the service quality for the users inside the vehicles. The deployment of mobile femtocells generates a lot of handover calls. Also, numbers of group handover scenarios are found in mobile femtocellular network deployment. The ability to seamlessly switch between the femtocells and the macrocell networks is a key concern for femtocell network deployment. However, until now there is no effective and complete handover scheme for the mobile femtocell network deployment. Also handover between the backhaul networks is a major concern for the mobile femtocellular network deployment. In this paper, we propose handover control between the access networks for the individual handover cases. Call flows for the handover between the backhaul networks of the macrocell-to-macrocell case are proposed in this paper. We also propose the link switching for the FSO based backhaul networks. The proposed resource allocation scheme ensures the negligible handover call dropping probability as well as higher bandwidth utilization.
This paper proposes a utility-based data rate allocation algorithm to provide high-quality mobile video streaming over femtocell networks. We first derive a utility function to calculate the optimal data rates for maximizing the aggregate utilities of all mobile users in the femtocell. The total sum of optimal data rates is limited by the link capacity of the backhaul connections. Furthermore, electromagnetic cross-talk poses a serious problem for the backhaul connections, and its influence passes on to mobile users, as well as causing data rate degradation in the femtocell networks. We also have studied a fixed margin iterative water-filling algorithm to achieve the target data rate of each backhaul connection as a counter-measure to the cross-talk problem. The results of our simulation show that the algorithm is capable of minimizing the transmission power of backhaul connections while guaranteeing a high overall quality of service for all users of the same binder. In particular, it can provide the target data rate required to maximize user satisfaction with the mobile video streaming service over the femtocell networks.

The current cellular communications are optimized for low mobility users, meaning that their performance is degraded at high speed. Therefore, passengers in a high-speed train experience very poor radio link quality due to the significantly large number of simultaneous handovers. In addition, wireless data traffic is expanding exponentially in trains, subways and buses due to the widespread use of smartphones and mobile devices. To solve the inherent problem of cellular communication networks and meet the growing traffic demand, this paper proposes the mobile hotspot network of a millimeter-wave communication system as a mobile wireless backhaul. This paper describes the physical layer design of uplink and downlink in the proposed system, and the performances of uplink and downlink are evaluated under Rician fading channel conditions. The implemented baseband prototype of the proposed millimeter-wave communication modem is presented. This system can provide a Gbps data rate service in high-speed trains carrying hundreds of wireless Internet users.

This paper addresses QoS functions in mobile backhaul network to accommodate the diverse traffics in cell site. The traffics assigned to the switching function in RAN system, such as Ethernet frame, IP packet, and ATM cell, are segmented, and then encapsulated to transfer then to the mobile backhaul network. ISP can converge all generation traffics, such as voice, HSPA, over all-IP RAN through standard pseudowire encapsulation. These can be enhanced with diverse QoS methods as well as comprehensive monitoring and diagnostic capabilities. Therefore in this paper, QoS functions under theses operations is simulated according to the encapsulation functions.

Just like terrestrial cellular networks, underwater cellular communication networks, which can manage the overall network resource by adaptively allocating backhaul resource for each base station according to its ingress traffic, are necessary. In this paper, a new resource allocation protocol is proposed for the underwater cellular communication network, allocating backhaul resource of a base station proportional to its ingress traffic to the base station. This protocol is classified into two types dependent upon allocation period: the resource allocation protocol with adaptive period and that with fixed period. In order to determine a proper resource allocation protocol, the performance of the two protocols, in terms of reception rate, message overhead, and latency is compared and investigated via simulation. As a result, the resource protocol with adaptive period outperforms that with fixed period; the resource allocation protocol with fixed period results in a maximum of $10^2$ order longer queueing delay as well as $10^2$ order greater message overhead than that with adaptive period.
Because of their exclusive features, millimeter wave directive mesh networks can be considered for small cell backhaul support in urban environments. For this purpose, a network of closely spaced stations has been considered with very directive line-of-sight links operating in the 60-GHz band. An attempt is made to evaluate channel response and interference behavior in such a network, taking into account the effect of building blockage. A simple grid of building blocks is considered as the propagation environment, and wave propagation is simulated using 2.5-dimensional (2.5D) ray tracing (2D with ground effect) to calculate the received signal at different nodes in the network. The results are compared with free space predictions and used to evaluate interference at all nodes in the channel and describe certain characteristics of links, such as the delay profile and the correlation length.

The current LTE network system provides service by locally allocating eNodeB to the EPC(Evolved Packet Core). However, it is not suitable for inter-node communication based on the distributed network environment. In this paper, we propose an integrated system by configuring E-UTRAN and EPC as All-In-One type to enable service in each distributed node. M2M UE is mounted on a each node for wireless In-band backhaul link. The integrated node provides inter-node communication over the wireless in-band backhaul link. If a normal UE moves and an access node changes in the system all entities of LTE integrated into one, it is necessary to change the P-GW which is IP anchor. In order to support the inter-node mobility even if P-GW is changed, We defined UPFE(User Packet Forwarding Extension) scheme and implemented the handover procedure of EPC. Also, we analyze the cell range of the integrated LTE system with the addition of the node and compare the handover delay with the current system.

Heterogeneous network (HetNet) with the various types of cells, e.g., with the different cell size and transmit power, has been introduced to improve the cell coverage and areal capacity in cellular mobile communication system. In this paper, we consider a practical situation in which all cells share the same wireless resource while some of them have a limited backhaul capacity. More specifically, we formularize a cell association problem that utilizes the minimum wireless resource while satisfying the quality of service (QoS) of all users in terms of their transmission time constraint, and propose a distributed algorithm to find the optimal solution. In the event of bottleneck at the backhaul link in some small cells, the proposed algorithm off-loads some users to the adjacent cell with the less congested backhaul capacity. Finally, we verify that the proposed algorithm supports the more numbers of users to satisfy the specified level of QoS than the conventional user association scheme under the limited access and backhaul capacities.
