  • Human Gnathostoma hispidum infection is extremely rare in the world literature and has never been reported in the Republic of Korea. A 74-year-old Korean man who returned from China complained of an erythematous papule on his back and admitted to our hospital. Surgical extraction of the lesion and histopathological examination revealed sections of a nematode larva in the deep dermis. The sectioned larva had 1 nucleus in each intestinal cell and was identified as G. hispidum. The patient recalled having eaten freshwater fish when he lived in China. We designated our patient as an imported G. hispidum case from China.

  • Noises from diesel engine are the major issues for noise pollution as well as affect customers' purchasing needs to vehicles powered by diesel engine. This study investigates to screen-out main factors that contribute to noises from diesel engine using VGT 2000cc engine developed recently. Changes of fuel temperature, intake temperature and the presence of three way catalyst don't affect the 'Engine Radiation Noise' and the solely three way catalyst influence on the 'Tail Pipe Noise'. Especially, there are no effects of the presence of three way catalyst on torque, which is main subject that should be considered in secondary study.

  • Fucoidan from sea tangle (Laminaria japonica) was isolated by hot water extraction, and partially purified. The in-vitro glucose and bile acid retarding effects of the partially purified fucoidan were investigated. Fucoidan exhibited 27.06$\sim$21.42% of retarding index for glucose and 33.50$\sim$27.02% of retarding index for bile acid during in vitro dialysis experiment for 2 hours. These retarding effects on glucose and bile acid diffusion was considered as a relatively good or very good, suggesting the prevention from diabetes and arteriosclerosis of some extent.

  • This paper presents a regenerative braking control scheme for Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) drive in Electric Vehicles (EVs). The main purpose is to maximize the recovered energy during battery charging by taking into account the nonlinear physical characteristics of the Switched Reluctance Machine. The proposed regenerative braking method employs the back-EMF in the generation process as a complicated position-dependent voltage source. The proposed maximum power recovery (MPR) operation of the regenerative braking is first based on the maximization of the extracted power from the machine and then the maximization of the power transferred to the battery. The maximum power extraction (MPE) from SRM is based on maximizing the energy conversion ratio by the calculation of the optimum PWM switching duty cycle, turn-on, and turn-off angles. By using the impedance matching theorem that allows the maximum power transfer (MPT) of the MPE, the proposed MPR is achieved. The parametric averaged value modeling of the machine phase currents in the chopping control mode is used for MPR realization. By following this model, a nonlinear equivalent input resistance is derived for the battery internal resistance matching. The effectiveness of the proposed regenerative braking method is demonstrated through simulation results and experimental implementation.

  • The discrete wavelet transform is utilized as preprocessing of Neural Network(NN) to identify aging state of internal partial discharge in transformer. The discrete traveler transform is used to produce wavelet coefficients which are used for Classification. The statistical parameters (maximum of wavelet coefficients, average value, dispersion, skewness, kurtosis) using the wavelet coefficients are input into an back-propagation neural network. The neurons whose weights have obtained through Result of Cross-Validation. The Neural Network learning stops either when the error rate achieves an appropriate minimum or when the learning time overcomes a constant value. The networks, after training, can decide if the test signal is Early Aging State or Last Aging State or normal state.

  • Superelement technique for structural analysis of large scale objects such as airplanes or vessels is effective especially in the harsh hardware environments. In this paper, a crane vessel of OHI 5000 which is capable of lifting 5000 tons in tie-backs and capable of revolving with 3000 tons is investigated in the view point of structural safety using superelements through the substructure scheme. Also an effective substructure procedure, a unique load extraction method and finite element modeling technique are demonstrated. Comprehensive reinforcement blueprints are derived based on the analysis results. Successful application of substructure technique is achieved through the structural analysis of the crane vessel. The analysis technique developed in this paper can be a guideline for similar large scale structures' relevant safety identification.

  • In this paper, we propose the neural network based emotion recognition method for intelligently recognizing the human's emotion using vision system. In the proposed method, human's emotion is divided into four emotion (surprise, anger, happiness, sadness). Also, we use R,G,B(red, green, blue) color image data and the gray image data to get the highly trust rate of feature point extraction. For this, we propose an algorithm to extract four feature points (eyebrow, eye, nose, mouth) from the face image acquired by the color CCD camera and find some feature vectors from those. And then we apply back-prapagation algorithm to the secondary feature vector(position and distance among the feature points). Finally, we show the practical application possibility of the proposed method.

  • We analyzed about digital watermarking embedded transmission of still image in wireless multimedia communication environment. Also, we proposed improved watermark techniques. It effects that get in original image than method to use conventional image is less and shows robust watermark restoration ability from outside attack. Performance analysis achieved about still image and restoration of watermark information using OFDM/QPSK still image transmission system in wireless channel environment. Analysis result, VI watermark performance that influence in original image is very small. And it could know that show high restoration performance. Also, It showed superior copyright information extraction performance than image watermark in wireless channel environment of same transmission error condition.

  • Nowadays, Cars are continuing to grow at an alarming rate but they also cause many problems such as traffic accident, pollutions and so on. One of the most effective methods that prevent traffic accidents is the use of traffic monitoring systems, which are already widely used in many countries. The monitoring system is beginning to be used in domestic recently. An intelligent monitoring system generates photo images of cars as well as identifies cars by recognizing their plates. That is, the system automatically recognizes characters of vehicle plates. An automatic vehicle plate recognition consists of two main module: a vehicle plate locating module and a vehicle plate number identification module. We study for a vehicle plate number identification module in this paper. We use image preprocessing, feature extraction, multi-layer neural networks for recognizing characters of vehicle plates and we present a feature-comparison method for improving the performance of vehicle plate number identification module. In the experiment on identifying vehicle plate number, 300 images taken from various scenes were used. Of which, 8 images have been failed to identify vehicle plate number and the overall rate of success for our vehicle plate recognition algorithm is 98%.

  • Nickel (Ni) is a kind of the rare earth resources. Since Ni-containing waste is drained after several plating operations in the factories, the effective recycling technique has been expected to be introduced. An actual magnetic separation technique using HTS bulk magnet generating the strong magnetic field has succeeded in collecting the paramagnetic slurry containing Ni-sulphate coarse crystals which were fabricated from the Ni-plating waste. The Ni compound in the collected slurry was identified as NiSO4/6H2O, showing slight differences in the particle size and magnetic susceptibility between the samples attracted and not-attract to the magnetic pole. This preferential extraction suggests us a novel recycling method of Ni resource because the compound is capable of recycling back to the plating processes as a raw material.
