전자섬유의 피부 밀착의복 적용을 위한 인체 부위별 피부 최대변형률 (Regional Skin Maximal Elongation Rate for Appling E-textiles to Tight-Fit Clothing)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the maximal elongation rate and area expansion ratio of human skin in various postures. Five males and five females (male: $23{\pm}2yr$ in age, $177.9{\pm}4.8cm$ in height, $76.7{\pm}8.8kg$ in body weight, $24.2{\pm}2.5$ in BMI, $16.2{\pm}3.4%$ in body fat; female: $22{\pm}1yr$, $163.2{\pm}3.6cm$, $51.4{\pm}2.7kg$, $19.3{\pm}1.6$, $27.4{\pm}6.7%BF$) participated in this study. Measurements were conducted using a pen and tape on the elbow, knee, wrist, shoulder, and neck. Subjects held postures so that each joint of the body regions was bent at its maximal level. The results were as follows: 1) The maximal elongation rate of skin showed a significant difference among the regions: $16.6{\pm}3.4%$ for the wrist, $22.4{\pm}5.5%$ for the neck (back), $37.6{\pm}11.3%$ for the shoulder, $42.6{\pm}10.0%$ for the knee, and $43.9{\pm}4.0%$ for the elbow (p<0.05). 2) The maximal expansion rate of the body surface area had the greatest values on the elbow ($93.7{\pm}6.4%$) and knee ($74.8{\pm}10.8%$). 3) No significant difference was found between males and females. In summary, maximal values of skin elongation and expansion rates in vivo were greater than in vitro values known from previous reports. These results can be applied to develop electronic fibers or textiles for wearable tight fit work clothing as well as fitness wear.

돼지 사육밀도가 증체 및 도체특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Stocking Density of Pigs on Body Weight Gain and Carcass Traits)

  • 우리나라의 비육돈 성장단계별 돈사의 소요면적이 제주환경에서 적합성 여부를 검토하기 위해 시험이 성장 3단계별로 수행되었고 우리나라에서 추천된 육성돈 돈사의 바닥소요면적 $0.56m^2$을 중간 수준으로 하며 저 및 고밀도 3수준 4반복 난괴법으로 처리하여 일일증체량 및 육질 등을 조사 분석하였다. 성장단계 1(체중 $43{\sim}65kg$ 범위)에서 중 밀도 구(돈사바닥 소요 면적, $0.56m^2/pig$)의 일일증체량은 저나 고 밀도 구 보다 유의적 증가를 보였다(P<0.05). 그러나 성장단계 2(체중$65{\sim}91kg$ 범위)와 3(체중 $91{\sim}105kg$ 범위)에서는 일일 증체량이 처리간 뚜렷한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 마지막 도살시 도체중이나 등 지방 두께는 저밀도구가 중이나 고밀도구 보다 높았다. 최종 육질 등급도 저밀도구에서 높은 추세였다. 결론적으로 볼 때 육성초기(체중 $43{\sim}65kg$ 범위)에는 중간 사육밀도가 다른 두 처리 보다 높은 일당증체량을 보였으나 그 이후는 처리간 사육밀도 차이를 얻지 못 했다.

Effects of a Stair-step Growth Pattern on Improvements in Meat Quality and Growth in Hanwoo Steers

  • The present study was conducted to examine the effect of a stair-stepped feed intake pattern on growth, feed efficiency, and meat quality of Hanwoo steers. Twenty-seven 11-month-old Hanwoo steers were randomly divided into three groups. The control group was fed according to the Korean steer feeding program, and the other two groups were fed according to an alternated feeding schedule of 3-2-4-2 months. During the first three months of the experiment, treatment group 1 (T1) and treatment group 2 (T2) were fed 20% and 30% less than the control group, respectively. For the following two months, the T1 group was fed 20% more than the control group while the T2 group was fed 20% less than the control group. In the third step, T1 and T2 groups were fed 20% and 10% less, respectively, than the control group for four months. In the last two months, T1 and T2 groups were fed 20% more than the control group. After the stair-step feeding trial, steers were fed concentrated feed ad libitum for five months. The altered feed intake pattern did not affect daily body weight gain. However, daily feed intake tended to decrease and growth efficiency tended to increase in the two treatment groups compared to the control group. Altered feed intake also affected blood metabolite levels. The serum glucose and BUN level of the T1 group increased in the first re-fed period compared to the T2 and control groups. The serum cholesterol level of the T2 group decreased in the first restricted-re-fed growth period compared to the T1 and control groups. The serum NEFA levels of the two treatment groups increased from the first restricted period compared to the controls. The serum insulin level of the T2 group increased in the last period compared to the T1 and control groups. Regarding meat yield index, the control group was significantly higher than the T2 group (p<0.05). Regarding meat yield grade, the carcass back fat thickness of the T2 group was significantly higher than the control group (p<0.05). In marbling score, the T1 group was the highest (4.9), followed by the control group (4.1) and the T2 group (4.0). These results indicate that using a stair-stepped growth pattern (T1) can contribute to improvements in growth efficiency and muscle marbling.

농촌(農材)과 도시저소득층(都市低所得層) 노인(老人)의 영양섭취실태(營養攝取實態)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Dietary Intake of the Elderly in Rural and Urban Low Income Areas)

  • This study was conducted to abbess dietary intake and eating habits of low-income persons aged 60 years or elder. 212 persons were surveyed between July 10 and August 17, 1978 ; 105 from the farming village of Yang-ju, Kyunggi province; and 107 from Karakdong, an area of redevlopment in the suburbs of Seoul. Results were as follows : 1 ) Family environment 84% of elderly persons surveyed, lived with their children; 13.2%, together as a couple; and 1.9%, widowed, lived alone. More than half on the households had an average monthly income of \50,000 to \30,000. The average Engel index was 61.2%. As for pocket money, 56.4% of male subjects had \l,000 to \7,000 per month, whereas 74% of female had less than \1,000. 2) Anthropometric measurements 59.9% of subjects were $70{\sim}90%$ of standard weight, 93% had an arm circumference only $60{\sim}80%$ of the standard. 3) Food and nutrient intake Carbohydrate provided 73.4 to 79.4% of total energy intake, whereas protein and fat accounted for 10.4 to 10.5% and 8.3 to 7.8%, respectively. Those over 65 years of age showed a somewhat greater dependence on carbohydrates for energy, than those under 65. Protein intake was only $42{\sim}52%$ of the recommended allowance. and the proportion of animal protein to total protein was only $2.1{\sim}9.3%$ far below the recommended allowance. Thus the protein nutrition of the subjects was proven to be inadequate qualitatively as well as quantitatively. Intake of energy and of all nutrients except vitamin A and ascorbic acid, were lower than recommended. 4) Correlational assessment The correlation coefficient between poor dental health, clinical sign score, appetite index, dietary balance and nutrient intake, was significant (0<0.01). Poor teeth, illness, and poor appetite were always associated with inadequate intake of energy and nutrients. The results of this survey reveal that many of elderly of the rural and urban poor show evidence of general malnutrition, The authours hope that this study will provide a back. ground and indicate the direction that community health and welfare programs may take to assure proper nutrition for the elderly.

Fish Oil의 첨가가 한우 거세우의 육성성적, 배최장근의 지방산 조성 및 도체특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Fish Oil Supplementation on Growth Performance, Fatty Acid Composition of Longissimus Muscle and Carcass Characteristics in Hanwoo Steers)

  • 본 연구는 fish oil의 첨가가 한우거세우의 증체, 배최장근의 지방산 조성 및 도체등급에 미치는 영향을 구명하고자 평균체중 440.8±32.4kg의 한우거세우 20두를 공시하여 실시하였다. 시험구 배치는 fish oil을 첨가하지 않는 FO-0구와 fish oil을 3% 첨가하는 FO-3구의 2처리로 하였다. 총 증체량과 일당증체량은 fish oil의 첨가에 관계없이 비슷한 결과를 보였다. Fish oil의 첨가는 배최장근의 단백질, 지방 및 회분 함량에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 배최장근의 isoleucine 및 glycine 함량은 fish oil의 첨가로 감소되었으나(p<0.05), cystein 함량은 증가되었다(p<0.05). Fish oil의 첨가는 배최장근의 myristic acid 및 eicosenoic acid 함량은 감소시켰으나(p<0.05), oleic acid 및 arachidonic acid 함량은 증가시켰다(p<0.05). 또한 배최장근의 EPA 및 DHA 함량은 fish oil의 첨가로 증가되었다(p<0.05). 도체중, 등지방두께, 배최장근단면적, 육량지수 및 육량등급은 fish oil의 첨가에 관계없이 두 처리구간에 유사한 경향을 보였다. 육색은 fish oil의 첨가로 개선되었으며 (p<0.05), 육질 1등급 이상 출현두수는 fish oil의 첨가로 증가하는 결과를 보였다. 따라서 본 연구의 결과에서 한우거세우에 대한 fish oil의 첨가는 쇠고기의 지방산 중에서 풍미 및 기호성에 관여하는 oleic acid 함량, 인간의 건강과 관련이 있는 EPA 및 DHA 함량 및 육질 1등급 이상 출현두수를 증가시키는데 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of amino acid-enriched ruminally protected fatty acid (AARPFA) on plasma fatty acids and amino acids, growth performance and carcass characteristics of Korean native steers (Hanwoo) by simultaneous supply of fatty acids and limiting amino acids (methionine and lysine). Eighteen finishing Hanwoo steers, 18 months of age and weighing an average of $459.0{\pm}38.9\;kg$, were used for studies of the metabolism of plasma fatty acids and amino acids during supplementation of AARPFA. Also, 45 finishing Hanwoo steers, 16 months of age and weighing an average of $408.6{\pm}26.5\;kg$, were used for growth performance and carcass characteristics during supplemention of AARPFA. There were three treatments which comprised a basal diet supplemented with AARPFA at 0 g (T1), 50 g (T2) or 100 g (T3), respectively. Concentrations of saturated, unsaturated and total fatty acids in plasma were increased in T3 compared with other treatments (p<0.05). Concentrations of methionine and lysine in plasma were linearly increased with increasing levels of AARPFA (p<0.01). Average daily gain, dry matter intake and feed conversion ratio were not different among the treatments. Marbling score measured by ultra-sound scanning was higher in T3 than in T1 at 24 months of age (p<0.05). Rib eye area, back fat thickness, yield index and yield grade score were similar across the treatments. Marbling score and quality grade score were higher in T3 compared with other treatments (p<0.01). Thus, plasma fatty acids, methionine and lysine metabolism were affected by supplementing with 100 g of AARPFA which also had positive effects on marbling score and meat quality grade of finishing Hanwoo steers.

Effect of Genotype and Dietary Protein Level on Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Fattening Pigs in Central Vietnam

  • This study aimed to determine the optimum dietary crude protein level in a typical diet for fattening pigs fed ad libitum under normal climate conditions in Central Vietnam. One hundred and ninety two gilts of Mong Cai local breed (MC), $F_1$ Large White${\times}$Mong Cai and $F_2$ crossbreds of (Landrace${\times}$Mong Cai)${\times}$Large White were used. At the start of the experiment, Mong Cai pigs weighed 12 kg at 11 weeks of age, $F_1$ pigs 12.1 kg at 8 weeks of age and $F_2$ pigs 12.2 kg at 8 weeks of age. Four diets differing in crude protein (CP) content (10.1, 13.1, 16.1 and 18.9% in DM) were formulated from rice bran, corn meal, cassava meal and fish meal. Calculated digestible energy content of the diets ranged from 13.5 to 13.8 MJ per kg DM. Pigs were housed individually in pens of $2.5\;m^2$ each and had ad libitum access to feed in a trough as well as water in bowls. The final weights after a growing period of 150 days were 66, 86 and 96 kg for MC, $F_1$ and $F_2$, respectively. Feed intake of MC pigs was highest at 13.1% CP while $F_1$ and $F_2$ had the highest feed intake at 16.1% CP. The results showed that for MC the maximum gain was obtained at levels between 13 to 16% CP. For the $F_1$ the maximum gain was at dietary protein levels of 16-17%. For $F_2$ the max gain was obtained at CP levels of 16 to 18%. Feed conversion was highest in MC pigs (~4.0) followed by $F_1$ (~3.3) and $F_2$ (~3.1), and within genotypes was lowest at the optimum CP level (p<0.05). Back fat thickness in MC (33.1 mm), $F_1$ (23.0 mm) and $F_2$ (20.5 mm) pigs was different and within genotypes was the lowest at intermediate CP levels. In conclusion, increasing the dietary crude protein contents in practical diets for pigs in Vietnam can increase production on small holder farms. Optimal performance for MC, $F_1$ and $F_2$ pigs is achieved at different dietary crude protein contents.

Effect of errors in pedigree on the accuracy of estimated breeding value for carcass traits in Korean Hanwoo cattle

  • Objective: This study evaluated the effect of pedigree errors (PEs) on the accuracy of estimated breeding value (EBV) and genetic gain for carcass traits in Korean Hanwoo cattle. Methods: The raw data set was based on the pedigree records of Korean Hanwoo cattle. The animals' information was obtained using Hanwoo registration records from Korean animal improvement association database. The record comprised of 46,704 animals, where the number of the sires used was 1,298 and the dams were 38,366 animals. The traits considered were carcass weight (CWT), eye muscle area (EMA), back fat thickness (BFT), and marbling score (MS). Errors were introduced in the pedigree dataset through randomly assigning sires to all progenies. The error rates substituted were 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, and 80%, respectively. A simulation was performed to produce a population of 1,650 animals from the pedigree data. A restricted maximum likelihood based animal model was applied to estimate the EBV, accuracy of the EBV, expected genetic gain, variance components, and heritability (h2) estimates for carcass traits. Correlation of the simulated data under PEs was also estimated using Pearson's method. Results: The results showed that the carcass traits per slaughter year were not consistent. The average CWT, EMA, BFT, and MS were 342.60 kg, 78.76 ㎠, 8.63 mm, and 3.31, respectively. When errors were introduced in the pedigree, the accuracy of EBV, genetic gain and h2 of carcass traits was reduced in this study. In addition, the correlation of the simulation was slightly affected under PEs. Conclusion: This study reveals the effect of PEs on the accuracy of EBV and genetic parameters for carcass traits, which provides valuable information for further study in Korean Hanwoo cattle.

돼지의 QTL 검색을 위한 유의적 임계수준(Threshold) 결정 (Determination of Significance Threshold for Detecting QTL in Pigs)

  • 양적형질 유전자좌위(Quantitative trait loci; QTL) 연관지도 작성을 위해 regression interval mapping method에 의해 Berkshire종과 Yorkshire종간 교배를 통해 생산된 $F_2$ 집단에서 실시하였다. 염색체내 QTL 위치를 결정하기 위해 regression 모델을 통해 계산된 검정통계량(F-statistic)에 대한 유의적인 threshold 수준의 설정은 permutation test 및 Lander와 kruglyak (1995)에 의해 제시된 방법으로 산출하였다. 525두 $F_2$ 개체에 대해 조사된 기록 중 5형질(도체중, 등심 단면적, 근내지방 교잡도, 콜레스테롤 함량, 척추 늑골 등지방 두께) 기록을 분석에 이용하였고 genome 전체에 걸친 125개의 microsatellite marker에 대해 3세대 집단 모두 개체에 대해 유전자형을 조사하였다. 회귀분석 모형에 따라 additive 및 dominance 효과를 추정하였으며 이때 모든 회귀계수 값과 F-검정 통계량은 각각 1cM 단위로 추정하였다. 각 형질별, 염색체별로 10,000회의 permutation에 의해 genome-wise 및 chromosome-wise threshold를 추정하였다. Lander와 Kruglyak(1995)에 의해 제시된 방법으로 산출된 threshold 값은 매우 높게 추정되어 이러한 threshold의 적용시 실제로 QTL 존재 여부를 인정할 수 있는 경우의 수가 permutation에 의해 유도된 threshold를 적용했을 때보다 상대적으로 적은 결과를 보였다. 5% genome-wise threshold의 경우 형질별로 다소 상이한 경향을 나타냈으며 분석에 활용된 5개 형질에 대해 총 4개의 QTL이 5% genome-wise 수준에서 검색되었다.

한우의 이유시 체중과 도체형질과의 유전적 관계 (Genetic Relationship Between Weaning Weight and Carcass Traits in Hanwoo)

  • 본 연구는 한우에서 이유시 체중과 도체형질들 간의 상관관계를 구명하고자 실시하였다. 조사된 도체 형질은 배최장근 단면적, 등지방두께, 21단계로 구분하여 평가한 근내지방도(근내지방도 I)와 7단계로 구분하여 평가한 근내지방도(근내지방도 II), 그리고 7단계로 구분하여 평가한 육색 등이었다. 유전모수의 추정은 DFREML 방법을 적용하여 실시하였는데 이유시 체중에 대한 통계모형은 동기우 그룹효과(년도-계절-성) 외에 이유시 송아지 일령 및 어미소 일령의 1차식 효과와 2차식 효과를 고정효과로 포함하였고 개체효과를 임의효과로 포함하였다. 도체형질에 대한 통계 모형은 동기우 그룹효과(년도-계절-성) 외에 도축시 일령의 일차식 효과를 고정효과에 포함하였고 개체효과를 임의효과로 포함하였다. 조사된 형질별 유전력 추정치는 이유시 체중이 0.25, 배최장근 단면적이 0.20, 등지방두께가 0.20, 근내지방도Ⅰ이 0.32, 근내지방도 Ⅱ가 0.32 그리고 육색이 0.22였다. 이유시 체중과 배최장근 단면적, 등지방두께, 근내지방도 I, 근내지방도 II 및 육색 간의 유전(표현형) 상관계수는 각각 0.75(0.16), 0.18(0.05), -0.41(-0.09), -0.40(0.11) 및 -0.07(0.05)였다. 본 연구 결과는 이유시 체중이 무거운 방향으로 단형질 선발을 진행할 경우 등심단면적이 넓어지고, 등지방두께가 두꺼워지며 근내지방도가 감소하는 도체를 생산하는 후손집단이 형성될 가능성이 있음을 시사하고 있다.
