  • Spectroscopic investigations on the interaction of gabapentin (GBP) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) were reported. The association constant of GBP-BSA system was determined at different temperatures (298, 302, 306 and 311 K) based on the fluorescence quenching results. The GBP was found to quench the fluorescence of BSA through static mechanism. Thermodynamic parameters, the standard enthalpy change, $({\Delta}H^o)$ and the standard entropy change $({\Delta}S^o)$ were observed to be $-9.61{\pm}0.008\;kJ\;mol^{-1}$ and $3.58{\pm}0.011\;Jmol^{-1}K{-1}$ respectively. These indicated that the hydrophobic and electrostatic forces played a role in the interaction of GBP with BSA. The negative value of ${\Delta}G^o$ revealed that the binding reaction is spontaneous. The circular dichroism studies indicated the conformational changes in BSA upon interaction with GBP. The effect of some metal ions on the binding constant was also investigated.

  • Cooling hot gas sets a floor on the ionization level for diffuse gas in the ISM in general and the galactic halo. Many high galactic latitude sight lines, cooling hot gas is the dominant source of the ionization. Such sites are prime regions for the formation of both C IV and Si IV ions at a temperature of T~105K. To study of the ISM that have the 104.5~6K ionization state by ionization or photoionization by the collision, searching for the radiation energy that is emitted at far ultra violet range is required. In this paper, we report the analysis of NGP( North Galactic Pole, $l:270^{\circ},b:90^{\circ},rad:40^{\circ}$) region by fuv($1350{\sim}1750{\AA}$) data that are surveyed with FIMS. After making the FIMS FUV image of the NGP region, we divided up into 50 small regions for that and got the spectrum emission lines from each one.

  • In the present investigation, were synthesized composite membranes prepared by simultaneous casting of two polymer solutions using the technique of phase inversion by immersion / precipitation. The support layer was prepared using polyethersulfone and polysulfone as base polymer and for the top layer was used sulfonated polysulfone (SPSU) with 50% sulfonation degree. The morphology of the resulting membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The final results showed that it is possible to prepare composite membranes by simultaneous casting of two polymer solutions with adherence between the two layers. Regarding the permeation tests, the developed membranes presented values of hydraulic permeability within the range of commercial nanofiltration (NF) membranes. Values rejection of 80% ammonium ions can be increased by using a SPSU with a greater degree of sulfonation.

  • To research the characteristics of cellulose produced from one strains of Rhizopus(R-B 14) when it acts on the carboxyl methyl cellulose, this experiment was carried out in crude purified cellulose. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The optimum pH of cellulose was from 4. 5 to 5 .5 and the range of its stability to the pH was considerably extensive and it was from 4 to 7. 2. The optimum temperature of cellulose was $50^{\circ}C$ and the activity of it was instantly inactivated at $70^{\circ}C$. 3. The inhibition of the metal ions to the activity of cellulose was as follows; $Hg^{++}$ > $Ag^+$ +/ > $Fe^{+++}$ > $Pb^{++}$. But the activity of cellulose was not affected at all by $Na^+$, $K^+$ and $Mg^{++}$.

  • The joining behavior of forsterite ceramics to SUS304 alloy using $8PbO-78Bi_2O_3-8B_2O_3-4ZnO-2SiO_2$ (wt%) system glass frit was investigated. The contact angle was smaller than $90^{\circ}$ at a temperature of $460^{\circ}C$. Redox reaction at the interface between forsterite and SUS304 was found to appear when the electrons in the metal part moved toward the glass part and the oxygen ions in glass moved to the metal side. The decrease of the surface tension due to the PbO solubility on the forsterite side contributed to the better wetting behavior at low temperature.

  • A new method for the preparation of lanthanide ions activated strontium aluminates phosphor by combustion method has been proposed. Combustion method consist of the redox reactions between the respective metal nitrates and urea in a preheated funace at $500^{\circ}C$. The luminescence behavior of the phosphor was studied and compared with corresponding phosphor prepared by conventional method. Effect of $Mg^{2+}$ ion concentration in strontium aluminate phosphor was investigated and the maximum luminescence of about $100cd/m^2$ was obtained. This method gave better brightness and small size to the phosphor than made by conventional method.

  • The objective of the present study was to assess the antipsychotic and antidiarrhoeal activities of ethanolic extract of roots of Rubia cordifolia in mice and rats. The antipsychotic activity of ethanolic extract of roots of Rubia cordifolia (ERC) was evaluated by observing its effect on amphetamineinduced stereotyped behavior in mice. Effect of ERC was also studied on motor coordination and locomotion in mice. The antidiarrhoeal activity was evaluated using castor oil-induced diarrhoea and excretion of sodium and potassium ions in the intestinal secretion in rats and gastrointestinal transit in mice. The ERC inhibited amphetamine-induced stereotyped behaviour, diminished locomotion and impaired motor coordination. ERC inhibited castor oil-induced diarrhoea, decreased both sodium and potassium excretion in the intestine and decreased gastrointestinal transit. Thus the present study confirms the anti-diarrhoeal activity of Rubia cordifolia. Further studies are necessary to evaluate the potential of Rubia cordifolia as an antipsychotic.

  • The effects of additional P-doping on the magnetic properties, thermal stability and cation distribution of Co-doped ${\gamma}-{Fe_2} {O_3}$have been investigated by means of magnetic annealing and measurements with vibration sample magnetometer and torque magnetometer. It is found that the P-doping promotes the coercivity and its magnetic-thermal stability, which may be attributed to increase of the cubic magneto-crystalline anisotropy constant, $K_1$ and the activation energy, E, for cation rearrangement, respectively. The cation distribution of P and Co-substituted iron oxide was calculated from the variation of the saturation magnetization with P-doping on the basis of the Neel model. It was found that the most of P ions in the iron oxides occupied the B-site of spinel lattice.

  • The potential energy surface (PES) for the dissociation of the 2-hydroxypyridine (2-HP) radical cation was determined from G3//B3LYP calculations, including the loss of CO, HCN, and HNC. The formation of the 1H-pyrrole radical cation by decarbonylation through a more stable tautomer, the 2-pyridone (2-PY) radical cation, was the most favorable dissociation pathway. Kinetic analysis by the Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus model calculations was carried out based on the obtained PES. It is proposed that the dissociation occurs after a rapid tautomerization to 2-$PY^{{\cdot}+}$, and that most of the ions generated by ionization of 2-HP have the structure of 2-$PY^{{\cdot}+}$ at equilibrium above the tautomerization barrier.
