Comparison of Heat Collection Performance of Water Heating System Using Fixed and Azimuth-Tracking Solar Collectors (고정식과 방위추적식 태양열 급탕시스템의 집열성능 비교)

  • The solar water heating system is one of the seven green campus items installed at the Gangneung campus of Gangneung-Wonju National University. The solar water heating system has two types of solar collectors, four storage tanks and monitoring equipment. Fixed and azimuth-tracking solar collectors were installed to collect heat from the sun. The amount of heat collected by the two different types of solar collectors was calculated from the temperature of the monitored storage tanks. Our results showed that the amount of solar heat collected by the azimuth-tracking solar collector was 19% greater on a sunny day and 23% greater on a rainy day than that collected by the fixed solar collector; therefore, the azimuth-tracking solar collectors are, on an average, 21% more efficient than the fixed solar collectors.

  • Recently, because Global Positioning System (GPS) achieves accuracy for engagement of enemy targets, GPS guided weapons have a wide range of applications from land through sea to air. Especially, when GPS guided weapon is then launched, it reads current position and searches a course to the target. As we all know, because GPS signals are weak, these signals can be affected by interference. If jamming signal is strong enough, it can jam the receiver of GPS guided weapon. Therefore, anti-jamming technique is an important thing under these conditions. In this paper, the controlling azimuth angle was used to improve navigation performance of precision guided missile under jamming conditions. First of all, precision missiles by GPS positioning such as SLAM-ER and JDAM were investigated. Also, the azimuth cutoff angle of satellites for usable navigation under jamming signals was analyzed by experimental tests. As a result, we found that azimuth cutoff angle under 140 degree can help ensure continuous GPS reception under the missile guidance.

  • In this paper, we proposed on the azimuth correction method for a line-of-sight data-link tracking antenna system. Tracking antenna system is essential to maintain line-of-sight between moving object and data-link equipment. In order to calculate the azimuth and elevation between the moving object and antenna system, we used GPS data. also to match the each coordinate systems, we used geomagnetic sensor or beacon. However, the geomagnetic disturbance-prone terrain in places difficult to correct calibration. The first step, finds the location of the strongest RF signal, we should remember the difference between the reference point and the detected position of the antenna. The second step, we could communicate each other. And the azimuth angle is calculated by GPS values. Despite the geomagnetic interference, we can correct the azimuth angle quickly and easily.

  • This paper describes the azimuth accuracy of correlative interferometer direction finder on a scaled down airplane model. When the antennas are placed on the bottom of an airplane, reflection signals caused by an aircraft structure are arise and caused an azimuth error. In this paper, the F-16 fighter scale-down model was made to 5:1, and five antennas were placed on the bottom of the model. The accuracy was made by numerically analyzing the phases of the radio waves received by the five antennas when the signal of emitter was transmitted on $0-360^{\circ}$ azimuth angles. The azimuth error of the correlative interferometer direction finder on the model was measured to be less than $1.0^{\circ}$ when SNR was larger then 3dB, and it could be very useful for the design of the direction finder on airplane.

Resonance Changes in the External Auditory Canal Associated with the Ear Canal Volume (외이도용적에 따른 외이도공명의 변화)

  • The external ear generates resonance gain because of anatomical characteristics. The ear canal resonance is influenced by the length and volume of the ear canal, the pinna, the concha cavity, the body trunk, and the speed of sound wave. This study is focus on the influence of the volume of ear canal. 17-healthy-adult (32 ears) were participated. They did not have any medical and ear disease history. The maximum resonance frequency of the ear canal was 2675 (${\pm}265$) Hz at azimuth $0^{\circ}$ and 2784 (${\pm}268$) Hz at azimuth $45^{\circ}$. The resonance gain was 18.1 (${\pm}3.9$) dB at azimuth $0^{\circ}$ and 17.9 (${\pm}3.8$) dB at azimuth $45^{\circ}$, respectively. The ear canal volume was 0.78 (${\pm}0.2$) cc and 1.32 (${\pm}0.8$) cc including static compliance. The ear canal resonance was changed depending on the ear canal volume. It was also statistically correlated at azimuth $0^{\circ}$ (p=0.038) and $45^{\circ}$ (p=0.013), respectively. The resonance gain was not correlated with the ear canal volume. The change of resonance frequency according to the ear canal volume will be useful information in the field of audiological rehabilitation especially for hearing aids fitting. In addition, we expected this study can provide the basic information for the study of the external ear resonance characteristics.

  • This paper describes the azimuth accuracy test of phase comparison direction finding method using F-16 fighter scale-down model. When the antennas are placed on the bottom of a fighter, reflection signals caused by an aircraft structure arises and an azimuth error occurs. In this research, the F-16 fighter scale-down model was made to 5:1, and five antennas were placed on the bottom of the model, then the radio waves of emitters were received by the antennas in the $0-360^{\circ}$ azimuth angles. The accuracy test was performed by numerically analyzing the phases of the radio waves received by the five antennas. The azimuth error of the phase comparison direction finding with scale-down model was measured to be less than $0.5^{\circ}$ when the signal noise ratio was larger then 0dB, and it could be very useful for the design of the phase comparison direction finding method of the fighter.

  • An autopilot system of a ship is very important for a safe and convenient navigation, which is realized with getting an azimuth data from a gyrocompass, a magnetic compass and a GPS(Global Positioning System) compass. Magnetic compass an azimuth error is generated by a vessel magnetism material such as steels. The magnetic pole is detected by the magnetic field sensor, it does not coincide with the true north, therefore, the detected azimuth data can not but accompany error. In this paper, in order to detect the minimum change of azimuth data which generates errors of azimuth information, a search algorithm using the Kalman Filtering method is utilized. The digital electronic compass is designed with the integration algorithm using the merits of an earth's magnetic field sensor and a GPS receiver.

  • The IFSAR technique using SAR data has various applications and is the only latest technology to produce high precision height information from the radar phase data. This paper describes the whole implementation algorithm of IFSAR technique. Also it suggests the algorithms for azimuth aliasing resolution and interferogram generation of SAR data. Those are proved through the experiment: azimuth aliasing is resolved and interferogram is generated properly. Therefore, it proposes the method for interferogram generation, an essential process in extracting high precision height data, and the development approach to principal modules of IFSAR algorithm.

  • An operational orbit determination (OD) and prediction system for the geostationary Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) mission requires accurate satellite positioning knowledge to accomplish image navigation registration on the ground. Ranging and tracking data from a single ground station is used for COMS OD in normal operation. However, the orbital longitude of the COMS is so close to that of satellite tracking sites that geometric singularity affects observability. A method to solve the azimuth bias of a single station in singularity is to periodically apply an estimated azimuth bias using the ranging and tracking data of two stations. Velocity increments of a wheel off-loading maneuver which is performed twice a day are fixed by planned values without considering maneuver efficiency during OD. Using only single-station data with the correction of the azimuth bias, OD can achieve three-sigma position accuracy on the order of 1.5 km root-sum-square.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the design of neural-fuzzy controller for the speed and azimuth control of a track vehicle. The proposed control scheme uses a Gaussian function as a unit function in the frzzy-neural network, and back propagaton algorithm to train the fuzzy-neural network controller in the framework of the specialized learning architecture. It is proposed a learning controller consisting of two neural network-fuzzy based on independent reasoning and a connection net with fixed weights to simply the neural networks-fuzzy. The performance of the proposed controller is shown by performing the computer simulation for trajectory tracking of the speed and azimuth of a track vehicle driven by two independent wheels.
