This study was performed to check the structural safety of modified 1-2W Greenhouses to be utilized fur growing Paprika. This type of greenhouse was derived from being remodeled by enhancing the column height of conventional 1-2W type greenhouses. According to the results of structural analysis performed by SAP-2000, there was not significant change in critical snow depth in spite of increasing the column height of 1.2 m by welding. But the critical wind velocities were shown to be $26.0\sim4l.0m/s$, which were $3\sim18%$ lower wind velocities compared with those critical velocities estimated for typical type of 1-2W greenhouse. Under the wind loads, those maximum section forces such as shear force, axial force, and bending moment, together with the deformed frame shape of strained greenhouse, were almost similar in both typical type and modified type. Maximum bending moment of column was found at eave's height of column on windward side. Under the snow loads, those maximum section forces such as shear farce, axial force, and bending moment, together with the deformed frame shape of strained greenhouse, were almost similar in both typical type and modified type. Maximum section forces except axial force was found at eave's height of column. Maximum axial force was found at inner column. Soil bearing capacity together with the total foundation resistance against wind upheaval was found to be consistently safe enough to resist to both wind load and snow load.

This paper examines the behaviour of two types of practical open beam-to-tubular column connection details subjected to combined moment, axial and/or shear loads. Detailed continuum finite element models are developed and validated against available experimental results, and extended to deal with flexural, axial and shear load interactions. A numerical investigation is then carried out on the behaviour of selected connections with different stiffness and strength characteristics under various load combination scenarios. The influence of applied levels of axial tensile or compressive loads on the bending stiffness and capacity is examined and discussed. Additionally, the interaction effects between shear forces and co-existing bending and axial loads are examined and shown to be comparatively insignificant in terms of stiffness and capacity in most cases. It is also shown that the range of connections considered in this paper can provide rotational ductility levels in excess of those required under typical design scenarios. Based on these findings, a simplified component-based representation is proposed and described, and its ability to represent the connection response under combined loading is verified using results from detailed numerical simulations.
An analytical method considering axial equilibrium is proposed for the short- and long-term analyses of shear lag effect in reinforced concrete (RC) box girders. The axial equilibrium of box girders is taken into account by using an additional generalized displacement, referred to as the longitudinal displacement of the web. Three independent shear lag functions are introduced to describe different shear lag intensities of the top, bottom, and cantilever plates. The time-dependent material properties of the concrete are simulated by the age-adjusted effective modulus method (AEMM), while the reinforcement is assumed to behave in a linear-elastic fashion. The differential equations are derived based on the longitudinal displacement of the web, the vertical displacement of the cross section, and the shear lag functions of the flanges. The time-dependent expressions of the generalized displacements are then deduced for box girders subjected to uniformly distributed loads. The accuracy of the proposed method is validated against the finite element results regarding the short- and long-term responses of a simply-supported RC box girder. Furthermore, creep analyses considering and neglecting shrinkage are performed to quantify the time effects on the long-term behavior of a continuous RC box girder. The results show that the proposed method can well evaluate both the short- and long-term behavior of box girders, and that concrete shrinkage has a considerable impact on the concrete stresses and internal forces, while concrete creep can remarkably affect the long-term deflections.

Loads on offshore structures are largely transferred to the bracing members in the form of axial forces. The detrimental effects of imperfections on compressive strength are well recognized. Damage in the members of offshore structures would significantly affect the compressive behavior of the members. As a result, such damages may also affect the ability of the structure to withstand the functional and environmental loads. It is important to be able to assess the residual strength of damaged members quickly and accurately. This will help operators to make the decision whether the member has to be repaired or not. In this study, a series of calculation is performed to study the effects of different parameters on the behavior of such damaged members under axial load. And the results of analysis are compared with those of experiment.
This paper presents a numerical investigation of the effect of the dihedral stator on the loss in a transonic axial compressor. Four stator geometries with different stacking line variables are tested in the flow simulations over the whole operating range. It is found that a large shroud loss at the rotor outlet and the subsequent shroud corner separation in the stator passage occur at low mass flow rate. The hub dihedral stator and bowed blade generate unexpected hub-corner-separation, thereby causing a large total pressure loss over the entire operating range. However, the corresponding blockage forces the high momentum flow near the hub to divert toward the upper part of the passage suppressing the negative axial velocity region. The dihedral stator increases deflection angle and secondary vorticity near the endwall where the dihedral is applied. As a result, the endwall loss which is related to the endwall relative velocity decreases.

In X-ray stress measurements for uni-directionally deformed surfaces such as grinding, a strongly curved $sin^2{\Psi} diagram, so called $\Psi-splitter, has been observed recently. It has been known that this is caused by the residual shear stress induced in the deformed layer by external forces. In this case it is necessary to consider this enough for ceramics and composite materials with tri-axial stress analysis. However, sufficient studies have not been done about the tri-axial stress analysis of the macro stress and micro. stress on each phase of the composite materials. The result of obtaining is as follows. 1. $\Psi-splitter does not appear in the vertical direction though $\Psi-splitter appears in grinding direction in WC-Co cemented carbides. The reversal of $\Psi-splitter to each phase does not appear. 2. $\Psi-splitter caused in WC-Co cemented carbides has a close relation in dislocation which accumulates in WC phase and phase transformation caused in Co phase. 3. The residual stress on the surface of grinding of each phase is in the state of the compression stress.

Recently, arches are used structurally because of their high in-plane stiffness and strength, which result from their ability to transmit most of the applied loading by axial forces actions, so that the bending actions are reduced. On the other hand, the resistances of arches to (out-of-plane,) flexural-torsional behavior depend on the rigidities EI/sub y/, for lateral bending, GJ for Uniform torsion, and EI/sub w/ for warping torsion which are related to axial stress for flexural-torsional behavior. The resistance of an arch to out-of-plane behavior may be reduced by its in-plane curvature, and so it may require significant lateral bracing. Thus. it is supposed that In-plane preloading which cause an axial stress, have an effect on out-of-plane free vibration behavior of arches. Because axial stresses caused increase or decrease out-of-plane stiffness. But study about this substance is insufficient. In this thesis, We will study an effect of preloading on lateral free vibration of arches, using finite element method based on Kang and Yoo's curved beam theory (about curved beam element have 7 degree of freedom including warping) with FORTRAN programming.
Recently, researchers in the field of structural health monitoring (SHM) have been rigorously striving to replace the conventional NDE techniques with the smart material based SHM techniques, employing smart materials such as piezoelectric materials. For instance, the electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique employing piezo-impedance (lead zirconate titanate, PZT) transducer is known for its sensitivity in detecting local damage. For practical applications, various external factors such as fluctuations of temperature and loading, affecting the effectiveness of the EMI technique ought to be understood and compensated. This paper aims at investigating the damage monitoring capability of EMI technique in the presence of axial stress with fixed boundary condition. A compensation technique using effective frequency shift (EFS) by cross-correlation analysis was incorporated to compensate the effect of loading and boundary stiffening. Experimental tests were conducted by inducing damages on lab-sized aluminium beams in the presence of tensile and compressive forces. Two types of damages, crack propagation and bolts loosening were simulated. With EFS for compensation, both cross-correlation coefficient (CC) index and reduction in peak frequency were found to be efficient in characterizing damages in the presence of varying axial loading.

In this paper, a simplified model is studied to predict analytically the radiated noise from the helical gear system due to an axial excitation of helical gear. The simplified model describes gear, shaft, bearing, and housing. To obtain the axial force of helical gear, mesh stiffness is calculated in the load deflection relation. The axial force is obtained from the solution of the equation of motion, using the mesh stiffness. It is used as a longitudinal excitation of the shaft, which in turn drives the gear housing through the bearing. In this study, the shaft is modeled as a rod, while the bearing is modeled as a parallel spring and damper only supporting longitudinal forces. The gear housing is modeled as a clamped circular plate with viscous damping. For the modeling of this system, transfer function from the shaft to the clamped plate are used, using a spectral method with four pole parameters. Out-of-plane displacement for the thin circular plate with viscous damping is derived and sound pressure radiated from the plate is also derived. Using the model, parameter studies are carried out.
Using the non-local elasticity theory, Timoshenko beam model is developed to study the non- local buckling of Triple-walled carbon nanotubes (TWCNTs) embedded in an elastic medium under axial compression. The chirality and small scale effects are considered. The effects of the surrounding elastic medium based on a Winkler model and van der Waals' (vdW) forces between the inner and middle, also between the middle and outer nanotubes are taken into account. Considering the small-scale effects, the governing equilibrium equations are derived and the critical buckling loads under axial compression are obtained. The results show that the critical buckling load can be overestimated by the local beam model if the small-scale effect is overlooked for long nanotubes. In addition, significant dependence of the critical buckling loads on the chirality of zigzag carbon nanotube is confirmed. Furthermore, in order to estimate the impact of elastic medium on the non-local critical buckling load of TWCNTs under axial compression, the use of these findings are important in mechanical design considerations, improve and reinforcement of devices that use carbon nanotubes.
