  • Recently, there is a great demand for precast reinforced concrete (RC) construction methods on the purpose of simplicity in construction. Nishimatsu Construction Company has developed a construction method with precast reinforced concrete members in medium-rise building. In this construction method, how to joint precast members, especially the anchorage of the main bar of beam, is important problem. In this study, the structural performance of exterior joints with precast members was investigated. The parameters of the test specimens are anchorage type of the main bar of beam (U-shape anchorage or anchorage plate) and the ratio of the column axial force to the column strength. Specimens J-3 and J-4 used U-shape anchorage and the ratio of the column axial force of specimen J-4 was higher. On the other hand, specimens J-5 and J-6 used anchorage plate, and the anchorage lengths are 15d and 18d, respectively. Experimental results are summarized as follows; 1) For the joints with beam flexural failure mode, it was found that the maximum strength of specimen with anchorage plate is equal to or larger than that of specimen with conventional U-shaped anchorage if the anchorage length of more than 15d would be ensured, 2) Each specimen shows stable hysteretic curves and there were no notable effects on the hysteretic characteristics and the maximum strength caused by the anchorage method of beam main bar and the difference of column axial stress level.

  • This paper predicted the shear behavior of reinforced concrete columns using Transformation Angle Truss Model (TATM) considered the effects of bending moment and axial force. Nine columns with various shear span- to-depth ratios and axial force ratios were tested to verify the theoretical results obtained from TATM. Fine linear displacement transducers (LVDT) were attached to a side of the column near the shear critical region to measure the curvature, the longitudinal and transverse axial deformations, and the shear deformation of the column. The test was terminated when the value of the applied load dropped to about $85\%$ of the maximum-recorded load in the post-peak descending branch. All the columns were failed in shear before yielding of the flexural steel. The shear strength and the stiffness of the columns increased, as the axial force increased and the shear span-to-depth ratio decreased. Shear stress-shear strain and shear stress-strain of shear reinforcement curves obtained from TATM were agreed well with the test results in comparison to other truss models (MCFT, RA-STM, and FA-STM).

  • This paper investigated structural behaviors of joint of concrete filled steel tube column and P.C reinforced concrete beam through a series of hysteretic behavior experiment. The results are summarised as follows: (1) The joint stiffness of concrete filled square steel tube column and P.C reinforecd beam was higher than that of concrete filled circular steel tube column and P.C reinforecd beam, and it was decreased as the increase of the number of hysteretic cycle. (2) The aspects of the hysteretic behavior in the joint was stable as the increase of the number of hysteretic cycle, and rotation resisting capacity of joint of concrete filled square steel tube column and P.C reinforced concrete beam was higher than those of the concrete filled circular steel tube column and P.C reinforced concrete beam. (3) Some restriction must be put upon the ratio of axial force in this joint model because the load carrying capacity was decreased by flexural and flexural-torsional buckling in case of the ratio of axial force 0.6. (4) The emprical formula to predict the ultimate capacity of joint model to superimpose shearing strength of steel web(H section) and bending strength of reinforced concrete beam was expected.

  • A nonlinear second-order analysis program that properly describes the nonlinear behavior of concrete was developed by using the layering technique. As the slenderness ratio of column is increased, the peaks of P-M curve lie remote from the section interaction diagram for the same eccentricities. But the peaks of P-M curve lie rather close to the section interaction diagram for very large eccentricities. In this study , the effects of compressive strength of concrete, longitudinal steel ratio, and yield strength of steel on second-order moment of concrete columns were analyzed. As the compressive strength of concrete and the yield strength of steel are increased, the ratio of peak axial force to maximum axial strength for concentrically loaded short column( Pu/Po) is decreased. But as the longitudinal steel ratio is increased, the ratio , Pu/Po increases.

  • Numerical analysis has been made on the dynamic behavior of an elastically supported beam subjected to an axial force and solid viscosity when the frequency of external force passes through the first critical frequency of the beam. Within the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory the solutions are obtained by using finite Fourier sine transform and Laplace transformation methods with respect to space and time variables. Integrations involved in the theoretical results are carried out by Simpson's numerical integration rule. The result shows that the maximum value of the dynamic deflection are much affected by the value of a solid viscosity, an axial force, an elastic constant and ratio of .omega.$_{max}$/.omega.$_{1}$.

  • The Concrete Filled Steel Tube (M) Column has excellent structural capacities that are in accordance with the interaction effect between the steel tube and concrete. CFT structure has been focussed on a struc tural system for high-rise buildings. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the strength and deformation capacities of CFT columns that are subject to constant axial and cyclic lateral load. The test parameters are diameters to the thickness ratio of the steel tube, axial load ratios, and the shapes of the tube. Total eighteen specimens were fabricated to clarify the energy absorption capacity of the CFT columns. Experimental results were summarized for their ultimate strengths and deformation capacities.

  • This paper presents the problems of design and theoretical model of electrostatically driven axial-gap type wobble motor. The motor design benefits from large axial rotor-to-stator overlap and large gear ratios, and motor designs with rotor radii of 50 and $100{\mu}m$ are capable of generating torques in the [nNm] range at high electrostatic fields. Because of the large gear ratio, smaller angular steps and lower rotational speed are obtained, compared to radial-gap motor design. Aspects like gear ratio, torque generation, excitation schemes and torque coverage, normal forces, friction are addressed.

  • It is generally known that the lateral frequency( ω) of the vibration of a prismatic beam-column decreases according to the rele (equation omitted) (ω/sub 0/=natural frequency). In the cases of tapered members, the determination of P/ sub/ cr/(elastic critical load) and ω/ sub 0/ are not easy. Furthermore, the relationship between the compressive load and frequency can not be determined by the conventional analytical method. The axial force-frequency relationship of sinusolidally non-symmetrically tapered members with different shapes were investigated using the finite element method. To obtain the two eigenvalues, the axial thrust was increased step by step and the corresponding frequency was calculated. The result indicated that the axial thrust of the elastic critical load ratio and the square of the frequency ratio can be approximately represented in any case by a straight line. Finally, the linear relationship is also applicable to the sinusolidally non-symmetrically tapered member.

  • When group pile supporting structures are to be subjected to large lateral loads, generally, hatter piles are used in group pile with vertical piles. It is well known that batter piles resist lateral static loads which are acted upon the piles as axial farces quite well but, they show a poor performance under seismic loads. However, it is not yet known how the batter piles behave under dynamic loading and how to strengthen the batter piles to improve the seismic performance. Shaking table tests were performed to investigate the seismic behavior of the batter pile and to bring up the countermeasures to improve the seismic performance. As the result of the shaking table tests, batter piles failed due to not only the excessive increase of compressive force near the pile head but also that of tensile force. In case that the pile head was connected with pile cap by rubber joint, the max. acceleration at the pile cap was reduced due to the high damping ratio of rubber and the max. moment and max. axial farce at the pile head was decreased remarkably. When the inclinations(V:H) of the batter pile were 8:3 and 8:4, max. moment, max. shear force, and max. axial farce were reduced notably and max. acceleration and max. displacement at the pile cap was diminished, too.

  • In this study, the stub columns of built-up H-section and square hollow section subjected to eccentrical loads are tested to evaluate the applicability of the structural members with 800MPa high-strength steel (HSA800) on current design specification. Analytical studies of FE model are conducted to validate the test results and then the verified FE models are used for extensive parametric studies for checking up the applicability of current design code. The parameters are width-to-thickness ratios and axial load ratios. From P-M correlations on parameter models, all stub columns with non-compact sections exceed the current design requirements about axial force and flexural strength ratios are sufficiently secured as the axial load ratios are decreased. The built-up hollow sections with slender section model do not satisfy the current design specification about axial force.
