  • Recently, the use of tubes in the manufacturing of the automobile parts has increased and therefore many automotive manufactures have tried to use hydro-forming technology. The hydro-forming technology may cause many advantages to automotive applications in terms of better structural integrity of the parts, lower cost from fewer part count, material saving, weight reduction, lower spring-back, improved strength and durability and design flexibility. In this study, the whole process of front engine cradle (or front sub-frame) parts development by tube hydro-forming using steel material having tensile strength of 440MPa grade is presented. At the part design stage, it requires feasibility study and process design aided by CAE (Computer Aided Design) to confirm hydro-formability in details. Effects of parameters such as internal pressure, axial feeding and geometry shape on automotive sub-frame by hydro-forming process were carefully investigated. Overall possibility of hydro-formable sub-frame parts could be examined by cross sectional analyses. Moreover, it is essential to ensure the formability of tube material on every forming step such as pre-bending, preforming and hydro-forming. At the die design stage, all the components of prototyping tools are designed and interference with press is examined from the point of geometry and thinning.

  • In this paper, a microstrip aperture-patch antenna and a microstrip ring antenna, which have single microstrip line feeding systems for the circular polarization, are designed, and experimental results are presented at X-band. The microstrip aperture-patch antenna is characterized by its wide operating frequency range, and the microstrip ring antenna is suitable for a basic radiator in the large array antenna due to its small size. Several design parameters for these antennas are considered and analyzed to improve antenna characteristics such as VSWR bandwidth and axial ratio. Initially, the sizes of the aperture and ring radiator are determined on a basis of the cavity model, then shapes of the patch within the aperture and the inner stub of the ring are optimized using Ensemble software. Measurement results show that the aperture-patch antenna has 25% of VSWR bandwidth and 1.2dB of axial ratio at the boresight, and the ring antenna has 6.7% of VSWR bandwidth and 1.6dB of axial ratio at the boresight.

  • In this paper, two ports feeding a microstrip patch antenna using a quadrature hybrid circuit was proposed to enhance the bandwidth for the global positioning system(GPS). The square patch was designed, and the probe feeding was applied. The quadrature hybrid chip circuit for two-port feeding was designed, and output ports that have a 90-degree phase difference feed to the patch antenna. The designed patch and quadrature hybrid circuit were implemented on an FR4 board, and were combined. The measurement of the bandwidth within a voltage standing wave ratio(VSWR) of 2: 1 and axial ratio(AR) in 3dB were 29 %BW(1,230~1,700 MHz) and 15.87 %BW(1,400~1,650 MHz), respectively. The peak gain at the GPS center frequency was measured at 2.75 dBi in an anechoic chamber.

  • This paper proposes a circularly polarized microstrip antenna using an I-shape ground slot perturbation and a perpendicular feeding network. The proposed antenna consists of the symmetrical and perpendicular feeding and the microstrip square radiator loaded with the I-shape ground slot perturbation. The left-handed circular polarization(LHCP) formed by a 90-degree phase difference can be radiated by the perpendicular feeding network and the ground slot perturbation. An implemented antenna is designed for the use in the satellite communication system operated in S-band of 2.2 GHz, and is to be the 91 MHz of -10 dB bandwidth. The measured results of the antenna gain, far-field radiation pattern, and axial ratio agree well with the simulation results.

  • This article proposed polarization selective antenna for UHF RFID system. The proposed antenna is consist of microstrip patch antenna with dual feeding and two SPDT switches and a SP4T switch and 3dB hybrid coupler. Through control of voltage of switches, the proposed reader antenna can select horizontally linear polarization, vertically linear polarization, left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right hand circular polarization (RHCP). The proposed reader antenna satisfied 2:1 VSWR at 902MHz ~ 928MHz. and 3dB under AR(axial ratio). And it can select appropriative polarization with user environment and tag polarization. So it minimize PLF and increased reading distance.

  • In this paper, the design of a 0.5~2 GHz cavity-backed spiral antenna is described. Combined arm pattern with a log spiral in the inner region and an Archimedean spiral in the outer region, a backing cavity, and a Marchand coaxial balun for feeding are designed. Termination resistors are used to improve antenna characteristics at the lower frequency of the operation frequency. VSWR, axial ratio, gain and HPBW(Half Power Beam Width) characteristics are simulated using CST's MWS. Finally, the validity of these approaches is verified by comparing the simulated results with the measured ones. Also, the measurement results are compared with the performance of a commercial spiral antenna.

  • We propose a method for increasing the bandwidth of a substrate-integrated-waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed antenna with taper-based micro-strip SIW transition feeding. For radio transmission, a circular slot is etched on top of the SIW cavity. For optimal antenna design, the slot is etched slightly away from the cavity center to generate circularly polarized waves. Simulations show a wide axial ratio bandwidth of 7.860% between 11.02 GHz and 11.806 GHz. Experimental results confirm a similar wide axial ratio bandwidth of 4.9% between 10.8 GHz and 11.35 GHz. An SIW feed from an inductive window excites the radiating circular slot, resulting in a simulated wide impedance range of 1.548 GHz (10.338 GHz-11.886 GHz) and bandwidth of 13.93%. Experimental results show a wide impedance of 2.08 GHz (10.2 GHz-12.08 GHz) and bandwidth of 18.84%. The SIW cavity-backed antenna creates a unidirectional pattern, leading to gains of 6.61 dBi and 7.594 dBi in simulations and experiments, respectively. The proposed antenna was fabricated on a Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate, and the reflection coefficient, radiation patterns, and gains were tested and compared using a computer simulator. The developed broadband antenna seems suitable for X-band applications.
