Comparison of Pollutant Control in Combined Sewer Overflows and Separated Sewer Overflows using the Separation Wall (우오수분리벽을 이용한 합류식 하수관거와 분류식 우수관거의 월류수 제어효과 비교)

  • This study is to evaluate control effects of separation wall by surveying water quality and sewer overflows during dry and wet periods in combined sewer and separated sewer systems. Ravine water from the combined Seokgyo outfall with the separation wall was separated about four times larger than sewage flow during dry periods. The water quality of the combined Seokgyo outfall with separation wall during dry periods is flow weighed average BOD 61 mg/L, the combined Cheonseokgyo outfall without the separation wall is average BOD 71 mg/L, and the separated Pyeongsong center outfall is average BOD 41 mg/L. The BOD concentration in separated outfall form about 57% of the combined outfall, and this means the separated outfall (i.e. storm sewer) is polluted by inflow of sewage. The overflow load of the separated outfall is ten times higher than the combined outfall and its overflow load per rainfall is three times than combined outfall during the wet periods. Therefore, the control plan of overflow load is required in storm sewer. The control effects of the overflow load increased 79% by setting the separation wall in the combined sewer, and showed 27% increase without the separation wall in separated sewer, but forecasted over 80% increase of effects if the separation wall was set.

Estiamtion of Groundwater Recharge Rate Using the NRCS-CN and the Baseflow Separation Methods (NRCS-CN방법과 기저유출 분리법을 이용한 지하수함양률 산정)

  • Groundwater recharge from precipitation is affected by the infiltration from ground surface and the movement of soil water. Groundwater recharge is directly related to the groundwater amount and flow in aquifers, and baseflow to rivers. Determining groundwater recharge rate for a given watershed is a prerequisite to estimate sustainable groundwater resources. The estimation of groundwater recharge rate were carried out for three subwatersheds in the Wicheon watershed and two subwatersheds in the Pyungchang River basin and for the period 1990-2000, using the NRCS-CN method and the baseflow separation method. The recharge rate estimates were compared to each other. The result of estimation by the NRCS-CN method shows the average annual recharge rate 15.4-17.0% in the Wicheon watershed and 26.4-26.8% in the Pyungchang River basin. The average annual recharge rates calculated by the baseflow separation method ranged 15.1-21.1% in the W icheon watershed, and 25.2-33.4% in the Pyungchang River basin. The average annual recharge rates calculated by the NRCS-CN method is less variable than the baseflow separation method. However, the average annual recharge rates obtained from the two methods are not very different, except NO. 6 subwatershed in Pyungchang River basin.

Hospital Financial Performances and Separation of Dispensary from Medical Practice (의약분업 전후 병원 재무성과의 변화)

  • This study analyzes the effect of separation of dispensary from medical practice on hospital management performance. The results are as follow. The earning ratios of large size hospitals become deteriorated significantly after the separation of dispensary. The growth ratios of revenues from inpatient were unchanged, but the growth ratios of revenues from outpatient of large and middle size hospitals were decreased significantly. Hospitals can't sell the medicines to the outpatient after the separation of dispensary, but they can do to the outpatient. The labor cost ratios of small and large size hospitals are increased significantly after the separation of dispensary. There are two reasons for increase of labor cost ratios. One is the decrease of material cost ratio. The other is the increase of doctor's salary. The material cost ratios of every size hospital are decreased significantly after the separation of dispensary. Because medicines costs of outpatients are decreased. The labor cost and doctors' salary per patient of middle and large size hospitals are increased significantly after the separation of dispensary. And average treatment fees per day of inpatients of middle and large size hospitals are increased significantly after the separation of dispensary. But those of outpatients are decreased significantly. Average numbers of outpatients per bed of small and large hospitals are decreased significantly after the separation of dispensary. And average numbers of inpatients per bed of large hospitals are decreased significantly. In summary, as a consequence of separation of dispensary from medical practice, management performances of large size hospitals become deteriorated significantly.

Web Program for Laboratory Animal Group Separation Based on Biological Characteristics (생체지표를 활용한 웹기반의 실험동물 군(郡) 분리 프로그램)

  • The laboratory animal group separation is dividing animal population into subgroups, which have similar average and standard deviation values among the subgroups, based on the biological characteristics such as body weight, glucose level in blood, etc. Although group separation is very important and initial step in experimental design, it needs a labor intensive process for researchers because of making similar average and standard deviation values among the subgroups using the raw biological characteristics. To reduce the labor cost and increase the efficiency of animal grouping, we developed a web program named as laboratory animal group separation (LAGS) program. This LAGS uses biological characteristics of population, number of group, and the number of elements per each subgroup as input data. The LAGS automatically separates the population into each subgroup that has similar statistical data such as average and standard deviation values among subgroups. It also provides researchers with the extraordinary data generated in the process of grouping and the final grouping results by graphical display. Through our LAGS, researchers can validate and confirm results of laboratory animal group separation by just a few mouse clicks.

The Effects of Psychological Separation from Parents and Family Adaptability on Child's Adjustment to College (부모와의 심리적 독립과 가족의 적응성이 자녀의 대학 생활 적응에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to explore psychological separation from parents, family adaptability, and child's adjustment to college, in order to assess general standards and sex difference. It also investigated explaining variables on children's adjustment to college. The study subjects were 243 college students(male students; 123, female students; 120).The data collected from questionnaire were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t test, Pearson's correlation and hierarchical multiple regression. The main results were as follows: Firstly, psychological separation from parents of college students were lower than those of average score. But family adaptability and adjustment to college of students were higher than those of average score. Secondly, psychological separation from parents was negatively correlated to adjustment to college, but family adaptability was positively correlated to adjustment to college. Finally, variables that explain child's adjustment to college was cohavitation with parents and family adaptability. In addition to these variables, psychological separation from parents was a major factor for female students.

A Study on Relationship between Radiologists' Job Satisfaction and Intention of Separation (방사선사의 직무만족도와 이직의도와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine relations between the job satisfaction and separation intent of radiologists from secondary medical institutes, providing basic information needed to earlier prevent radiologists' separation, improve their quality and effectively manage them. 1. The subjects' job satisfaction was 2.32 points in mean score, which was below the average. 2. Concerning difference in job satisfaction among the subjects in accordance with their demographic characteristics, it was found that radiologists are significantly different among them in job satisfaction according to their age and position. 3. The surveyed radiologists' intent of separation was 2.89 points in mean score, which was not significantly high. 4. Concerning difference in the intent of separation among the participants in accordance with their demographic characteristics, it was found that radiologists are significantly different among them in the intent of separation according to their age, marital status, position and average monthly income. 5. There were significant correlations between the subjects' job satisfaction and intent of separation. In other words, the higher radiologists are in job satisfaction, the lower they are in the intent of separation.

Performance Comparison of Two Ellipse Fitting-Based Cell Separation Algorithms

  • Cells in a culture process transform with time and produce many overlapping cells in their vicinity. We are interested in a separation algorithm for images of overlapping cells taken using a fluorescence optical microscope system during a cell culture process. In this study, all cells are assumed to have an ellipse-like shape. For an ellipse fitting-based method, an improved least squares method is used by decomposing the design matrix into quadratic and linear parts for the separation of overlapping cells. Through various experiments, the improved least squares method (numerically stable direct least squares fitting [NSDLSF]) is compared with the conventional least squares method (direct least squares fitting [DLSF]). The results reveal that NSDLSF has a successful separation ratio with an average accuracy of 95% for two overlapping cells, an average accuracy of 91% for three overlapping cells, and about 82% accuracy for four overlapping cells.

Relations between Radiologists' Job Stress and Intent of Separation (방사선사의 직무스트레스와 이직의도와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine relations between the job stress of radiologists, who are serving at secondary medical institutions, and their intent of separation, providing basic information necessary to earlier prevent the separation, improve the quality of radiologists and ensure a more effective personnel management of the professionals. For the purpose, this researcher conducted a structured questionnaire survey of 221 radiologists from Nov 1 to 30, 2010 who were serving at secondary medical institutions located in Busan. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. 1) The surveyed radiologists were scored 2.82 points in average in terms of job stress. This indicates that they are suffering from job stress higher than moderate. 2) The subjects were significantly different from each other in job stress according to their age, total service period, department where they were serving, satisfaction with their hospital and satisfaction with the foresaid department. 3) The subjects were scored 2.59 points in average in terms of the intent of separation. This indicates that the surveyed radiologists are not so willing to change their job. 4) Those radiologists were significantly different from each other in the intent of separation according to their age, marital status, educational background, average monthly income, total service period, the period of service at a department where they belonged now, position, satisfaction with their hospital and satisfaction with the foresaid department. 5) There were significant correlations between the subjects' job stress and intent of separation.

Malaysian Name-based Ethnicity Classification using LSTM

  • Name separation (splitting full names into surnames and given names) is not a tedious task in a multiethnic country because the procedure for splitting surnames and given names is ethnicity-specific. Malaysia has multiple main ethnic groups; therefore, separating Malaysian full names into surnames and given names proves a challenge. In this study, we develop a two-phase framework for Malaysian name separation using deep learning. In the initial phase, we predict the ethnicity of full names. We propose a recurrent neural network with long short-term memory network-based model with character embeddings for prediction. Based on the predicted ethnicity, we use a rule-based algorithm for splitting full names into surnames and given names in the second phase. We evaluate the performance of the proposed model against various machine learning models and demonstrate that it outperforms them by an average of 9%. Moreover, transfer learning and fine-tuning of the proposed model with an additional dataset results in an improvement of up to 7% on average.

Pollutant Control using the Separation Wall between Stormwater and Sewage in a Combined Sewer System (우오수분리벽을 이용한 합류식 하수관거의 오염물질 제어효과)

  • This research is to determine the stormwater effects on sewer concentrations by measuring and comparing the flow and pollutant concentrations during dry and rainy periods in the existing BOX type combined sewer pipes. The monitoring was carried out in two sites, which are the Daesachen outfall having PE separation wall in BOX type combined sewer pipes and the Yongunchen outfall not having seperatioin wall. The average flow-weighted BOD concentraion in Yongunchen outfall is 2-fold lower than in Daesachen outfall because of the dilution effect from ravine water. However, the pollutant mass loading is 16 fold higher in Yongunchen outfall than in Daesachen outfall because of more flows. According to the research, the separation wall controls 52% pollutant mass during a storm period (11.5 mm/hr rainfall intensity). Therefore, the Yongunchen combined sewer system (CSS) need separation wall to control and to prevent more pollutant input in stream. In Daesachen area, the maximum sewer flow rate during a storm period measured about 10 fold bigger than average sewer flow during dry periods. Also the concentrations between rainy and dry periods increase approximately 33 fold for BOD and 120 fold for SS. In Yongunchen area, it increases about 9 fold for the maximum flow rate, 18 fold for BOD and 22 fold for SS during a storm. Therefore, the research is concluded that the separation wall between stromwater (or ravine water) and sewage can decrease the dilution effect in CSS and control the pollutant loading.
