Due to multiple hops, mobility and time-varying channel, supporting delay sensitive real-time traffic in wireless local area network-based (WLAN) mesh networks is a challenging task. In particular for real-time traffic subject to medium access control (MAC) layer control overhead, such as preamble, carrier sense waiting time and the random backoff period, the performance of real-time flows will be degraded greatly. In order to support real-time traffic, an efficient adaptive packet scheduling (APS) scheme is proposed, which aims to improve the system performance by guaranteeing inter-class, intra-class service differentiation and adaptively adjusting the packet length. APS classifies incoming packets by the IEEE 802.11e access class and then queued into a suitable buffer queue. APS employs strict priority service discipline for resource allocation among different service classes to achieve inter-class fairness. By estimating the received signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) per bit and current link condition, APS is able to calculate the optimized packet length with bi-dimensional markov MAC model to improve system performance. To achieve the fairness of intra-class, APS also takes maximum tolerable packet delay, transmission requests, and average allocation transmission into consideration to allocate transmission opportunity to the corresponding traffic. Detailed simulation results and comparison with IEEE 802.11e enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) scheme show that the proposed APS scheme is able to effectively provide inter-class and intra-class differentiate services and improve QoS for real-time traffic in terms of throughput, end-to-end delay, packet loss rate and fairness.

Routing overlay offers an ideal methodology to improve the end-to-end communication performance by deriving a backup path for any node pair. This paper focuses on a challenging issue of selecting a proper backup path to bypass the failures on the default path with high probability for any node pair. For existing backup path selection approaches, our trace-driven evaluation results demonstrate that the backup and default paths for any node pair overlap with high probability and hence usually fail simultaneously. Consequently, such approaches fail to derive a robust backup path that can take over in the presence of failure on the default path. In this paper, we propose a three-phase RBPS approach to identify a proper and robust backup path. It utilizes the traceroute probing approach to obtain the fine-grained topology information, and systematically employs the grid quorum system and the Bloom filter to reduce the resulting communication overhead. Two criteria, delay and fault-tolerant ability on average, of the backup path are proposed to evaluate the performance of our RBPS approach. Extensive trace-driven evaluations show that the fault-tolerant ability of the backup path can be improved by about 60%, while the delay gain ratio concentrated at 14% after replacing existing approaches with ours. Consequently, our approach can derive a more robust and available backup path for any node pair than existing approaches. This is more important than finding a backup path with the lowest delay compared to the default path for any node pair.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm that select efficient relay nodes using information of network environment and nodes. The proposed algorithm can be used changeable weight factors as following network environment in node density. The routing protocols adopting store-carry-forward method are used for solving network problems occurred by unstable end-to-end connection in Delay Tolerant Networks(DTNs). Exiting DTN routing algorithms have problems that large latency and overhead because of deficiency of network informations. The proposed algorithm could be provide a solution this problems using changeable weight factor and prediction of network environment. Thus, selected relay nodes work efficiently in unstable and stressed network environment. Simulation results show that enhancement performance as overhead, delivery ratio, average latency compared to exiting DTN routing algorithm.

The limited storage and computing capacity hinder the development of cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRAHNs). To solve the problem, a new paradigm of cloud-based CRAHN has been proposed, in which a CRAHN will make use of the computation and storage resources of the cloud. This paper envisions an integrated CRAHN-cloud network architecture. In this architecture, some cognitive radio users (CUs) who satisfy the required metrics could perform as mobile gateway candidates to connect other ordinary CUs with the cloud. These mobile gateway candidates are dynamically clustered according to different related metrics. Cluster head and time-to-live value are determined in each cluster. In this paper, the gateway advertisement and discovery issues are first addressed to propose a hybrid gateway discovery mechanism. After that, a QoS-based gateway selection algorithm is proposed for each CU to select the optimal gateway. Simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the overall scheme, which incorporates the proposed clustering and gateway selection algorithms. The results show that the proposed scheme can achieve about 11% higher average throughput, 10% lower end-to-end delay, and 8% lower packet drop fractions compared with the existing scheme.
This paper proposes a multipath routing protocol called cross-layer multipath AODV (CM-AODV) for wireless ad hoc networks, which selects multiple routes on demand based on the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) measured at the physical layer. Note that AODV (Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector) is one of the most popular routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks. Each time a route request (RREQ) message is forwarded hop by hop, each forwarding node updates the route quality which is defined as the minimum SINR of serialized links in a route and is contained in the RREQ header. While achieving robust packet delivery, the proposed CM-AODV is amenable to immediate implementation using existing technology by neither defining additional packet types nor increasing packet length. Compared to the conventional multipath version of AODV (which is called AOMDV), CM-AODV assigns the construction of multiple paths to the destination node and makes it algorithmically simple, resulting in the improved performance of packet delivery and the less overhead incurred at intermediate nodes. Our performance study shows that CM-AODV significantly outperforms AOMDV in terms of packet delivery ratio and average end-to-end delay, and results in less routing overhead.

In this paper, the efficient AODV routing algorithm in MANET is proposed. Because transmission channel has a high error rate and loss in MANET, the number of hops can't be regarded as an absolute network metric. After measuring FER periodically at the data link layer using cross-layer design, the scheme that every node forwards the weight of link status in the reserved field of AODV protocol is used. In order to find the efficient route, we design AODV to be able to select an optimal route that has a good channel status by evaluating the sum of weight. The proposed AODV improves throughput, routing overhead and average end-to-end delay in comparison with the generic AODV.

Recent advances in Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN) have elevated them to the status of a critical instrument for overcoming spectrum limits and achieving severe future wireless communication requirements. Collaborative spectrum sensing is presented for efficient channel selection because spectrum sensing is an essential part of CRNs. This study presents an innovative cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) model that is built on the Firefly Algorithm (FA), as well as machine learning artificial neural networks (ANN). This system makes use of user grouping strategies to improve detection performance dramatically while lowering collaboration costs. Cooperative sensing wasn't used until after cognitive radio users had been correctly identified using energy data samples and an ANN model. Cooperative sensing strategies produce a user base that is either secure, requires less effort, or is faultless. The suggested method's purpose is to choose the best transmission channel. Clustering is utilized by the suggested ANN-FA model to reduce spectrum sensing inaccuracy. The transmission channel that has the highest weight is chosen by employing the method that has been provided for computing channel weight. The proposed ANN-FA model computes channel weight based on three sets of input parameters: PU utilization, CR count, and channel capacity. Using an improved evolutionary algorithm, the key principles of the ANN-FA scheme are optimized to boost the overall efficiency of the CRN channel selection technique. This study proposes the Artificial Neural Network with Firefly Algorithm (ANN-FA) for cognitive radio networks to overcome the obstacles. This proposed work focuses primarily on sensing the optimal secondary user channel and reducing the spectrum handoff delay in wireless networks. Several benchmark functions are utilized We analyze the efficacy of this innovative strategy by evaluating its performance. The performance of ANN-FA is 22.72 percent more robust and effective than that of the other metaheuristic algorithm, according to experimental findings. The proposed ANN-FA model is simulated using the NS2 simulator, The results are evaluated in terms of average interference ratio, spectrum opportunity utilization, three metrics are measured: packet delivery ratio (PDR), end-to-end delay, and end-to-average throughput for a variety of different CRs found in the network.
Background: Nasal bone fractures are managed by closed reduction within the 2-week period, and are managed by secondary correction after this time. There is little literature on the delayed reduction for nasal bone fractures beyond the 2-week duration. We report our experience with nasal fractures, which were reduced beyond this period. Methods: A retrospective review was performed for all patients who had undergone closed reduction of isolated nasal bone fracture. Patients were included for having undergone reduction of nasal bone fractures at or more than 2 weeks after the injury. Medical records were reviewed for demographic information, injury mechanism, fracture type, delay in treatment, and cause for delay. Postoperative outcomes were evaluated using computed tomography images. Results: The review identified 10 patients. The average reduction time was 22.1 days. Five of patients underwent reduction between days 15 and 20, and the remaining five patients underwent reduction between days 21 and 41. The postoperative outcomes were excellent in 8 patients and good in 2 patients. Conclusion: Outcomes were superior for nasal fractures with displaced end plates and multiple fracture segments. Our study results appears to support delayed reduction of isolated nasal fractures in the presence of factors that delay bony reunion.

Multicast Mesh based Mobile Ad-hoc NETworks (MANETs) provide efficient data transmission in energy restraint areas without a fixed infrastructure. In this paper, the authors present an improved version of protocol SLIMMER developed by them earlier, and name it SLIMMER-SN. Most mesh-based protocols suffer from redundancy; however, the proposed protocol controls redundancy through the concept of forwarding nodes. The proposed protocol uses remaining energy of a node to decide its energy efficiency. For measuring stability, a new metric called Stability of Node (SN) has been introduced which depends on transmission range, node density and node velocity. For data transfer, a weighted cost function selects the most energy efficient nodes / most stable nodes or a weighted combination of both. This makes the node selection criteria more dynamic. The protocol works in two steps: (1) calculating SN and (2) using SN value in the weighted cost function for selection of nodes. The study compared the proposed protocol, with other mesh-based protocols PUMA and SLIMMER, based on packet delivery ratio (PDR), throughput, end-to-end delay and average energy consumption under different simulation conditions. Results clearly demonstrate that SLIMMER-SN outperformed both PUMA and SLIMMER.
A MANET is an autonomous, infrastructureless system that consists of mobile nodes. In MANET, on-demand routing protocols are usually used because network topology changes frequently. The current approach in case of broken routes is to flag an error and re-initiate route discovery either at the source or at the intermediate node. Repairing these broken links is a costly affair in terms of routing overhead and delay involved. Therefore, this paper propose a NAODV(Neighbor-aware AODV) protocol that stands on the basis of an AODV. It sets up the route rapidly if it operates for setting the route directly by using sequence number of neighbor nodes without re-search the route when the route to destination node is broken. Also, it reduces loss of packets. We use NS-2 for the computer simulation and validate that the proposed scheme is better than general AODV in terms of packet delivery ratio and average end-to-end delay. Also, when the proposed protocol is applied to the large ad-hoc network with multiple nodes, the performance is more efficient.
