Stabilities and structures of resorcinol formaldehyde resins (RF resins) and their dependence on solvent were studied by molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics. Dimers to decamers of the RF resins in the conditions of dielectric constant = 1.00, 21.01, 36.64, and 80.10 were calculated. The average distance between oxygen atoms in 1-hydroxyl groups of adjacent resorcinols of the resins became longer with increased dielectric constant of the environment. The number of intramolecular hydrogen bonds of the resins decreased by increasing the dielectric constant of the environment. The RF resin structure on the surface of fabric or steel cord was explained based on the present calculation.

In order to estimate the average migration lengths of $H_3O^+$ ions in amorphous ice, we conducted experiments of reactive ion scattering (RIS), low energy sputtering (LES), and reflection absorption IR spectroscopy (RAIRS) with an ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chamber. Dopped water-ice films were grown on the clean surface of Ru single crystal and analyzed with RIS, LES and RAIRS methods. The population changes of probe molecules, which were buried at a controlled distance from the surface, were monitored by those methods so that we can mesure the migration efficiencies. From the measured efficiencies, we evaluated the average migration lengths. This result is expected to give the information about the dynamics of proton in water-ice film.
A typical solid-state drive contains several independent channels that can be operated in parallel. To exploit this channel-level parallelism, a variety of works proposed to split consecutive write sequences into small segments and schedule them to different channels. This scheme exploits the parallelism but breaks the spatial locality of write traffic; thus, it is able to significantly degrade the efficiency of garbage collection. This paper proposes a channel-aware write reordering (CAWR) mechanism to schedule write requests to different channels more intelligently. The novel mechanism encapsulates correlated pages into a cluster beforehand. All pages belonging to a cluster are scheduled to the same channels to exploit spatial locality, while different clusters are scheduled to different channels to exploit the parallelism. As CAWR covers both garbage collection and I/O performance, it outperforms existing schemes significantly. Trace-driven simulation results demonstrate that the CAWR mechanism reduces the average response time by 26% on average and decreases the valid page copies by 10% on average, while achieving a similar hit ratio to that of existing mechanisms.
Remote sensing science is a rapidly growing field of Earth sciences. Since emergence and to present day, an extensive literature has evolved which traces the wide application of remote sensing in human activities. According to the ISI Web of Science in the 1975-2005 time span more then 20,000 papers were published on remote sensing. The number of papers grew exponentially with doubling period of about 6 years. Notwithstanding all specialized proceedings, there is a lot more remote sensing papers published in a vast list of source titles (up to 350 proceedings). Only 25% of retrieved papers are published in 10 proceedings which ISI assigns to subject category of remote sensing. In 2005 all these proceedings published 1291 articles and received cca 24,000 citations. Average impact factor of the proceedings is equal to 1.181 and average cited half-life is 7.1. It means that an average paper in remote sensing proceedings is cited more then once per year and half of citations the paper receive within the next 7 years after publication. The time line of remote sensing periodicals issued in 1927-1995 shows an exponential growth with doubling period about 15 years. After 1995 there is a prominent deviation from the exponential curve which shows the demand saturation for specialized proceedings. The features revealed are discussed in terms of dynamics and impact of remote sensing in current Earth sciences development.

Recurrent substorms occur when high-speed solar wind streamers pass by Earth's magnetosphere. Most of the previous researches have been done using the observations obtained at the geosynchronous orbit focusing on the relationship between the solar wind disturbances and the occurrence of substorms. However, it is important to investigate the dynamics of the magnetotail because the magnetotail is the place where substorms develop. In this study we investigated the observations of recurrent dipolarizations in the near-Earth magnetotail that occurred during high-speed solar wind streamers. The dipolarizations and subsequent stretchings have occurred for more than three days with the average period of ~2 - 3 hours. The average period of ~2 - 3 hours is consistent with the average occurrence period of recurrent substorms. Also, the observed signatures on the geosynchronous orbit and the ground show recurrent substorms have occurred during the event. These suggest that the recurrent dipolarizations in the near-Earth magnetotail should be closely related to the recurrent substorms. On the other hand, there was no clear flow activities directly associated with the dipolarizations, except for some intermittent bursty flow activities. We will discuss the detailed characteristics of the dipolarizations and the relationship with recurrent substorms.
We address a question of what are three main channels that can best translate other channels in ultraviolet (UV) and extreme UV (EUV) observations. For this, we compare the image translations among the nine channels of the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on the Solar Dynamics Observatory using a deep learning model based on conditional generative adversarial networks. In this study, we develop 170 deep learning models: 72 models for single-channel input, 56 models for double-channel input, and 42 models for triple-channel input. All models have a single-channel output. Then we evaluate the model results by pixel-to-pixel correlation coefficients (CCs) within the solar disk. Major results from this study are as follows. First, the model with 131 Å shows the best performance (average CC = 0.84) among single-channel models. Second, the model with 131 and 1600 Å shows the best translation (average CC = 0.95) among double-channel models. Third, among the triple-channel models with the highest average CC (0.97), the model with 131, 1600, and 304 Å is suggested in that the minimum CC (0.96) is the highest. Interestingly they are representative coronal, photospheric, and chromospheric lines, respectively. Our results may be used as a secondary perspective in addition to primary scientific purposes in selecting a few channels of an UV/EUV imaging instrument for future solar satellite missions.
We investigate the kinetics of diffusion-influenced catalytic reactions occurring in small reaction volume. From a simple exact model study, we find that the reaction rate coefficient decreases with the size of reaction volume. The explicit expression for the average reaction rate constant is presented, which can be regarded as a generalization of well-known Collins-Kimball rate constant into the reactions occurring in a small reaction volume. It turns out that the traditional diffusion influenced reaction dynamics is followed by a single exponential relaxation phase with a rate constant dependent on the reaction volume for the catalytic reactions occurring in small reaction volumes.
This study of the vestibule of pressurizing smoke control system installed in domestic high-rise buildings for evacuation in case of fire, when the door is open to forming characteristics of the air flow was analyzed using fire dynamics simulator and analyzed of variance. Vestibule which is compartment of the design condition, air flow in the exhaust damper was formed severe turbulence confirming preceding research. The door position is in the range of formed vortex, unsteady flow of air occurs at the point that the door could be confirmed. According to the NFSC 501A, door to symmetrically separate the average of 10 points or more as measured from the average of wind speed to do is based. Under these conditions, it is difficult to measure the characteristics of the upper air flow of upper points. so measuring points are subdivided by more than 64 points method presented in TAB because severe deviation of wind speed.
Objective: This study was carried out to assess the haplotype diversity and population dynamics in cattle populations of Ethiopia. Methods: We sequenced the complete mitochondrial cytochrome b gene of 76 animals from five indigenous and one Holstein Friesian${\times}$Barka cross bred cattle populations. Results: In the sequence analysis, 18 haplotypes were generated from 18 segregating sites and the average haplotype and nucleotide diversities were $0.7540{\pm}0.043$ and $0.0010{\pm}0.000$, respectively. The population differentiation analysis shows a weak population structure (4.55%) among the populations studied. Majority of the variation (95.45%) is observed by within populations. The overall average pair-wise distance ($F_{ST}$) was 0.049539 with the highest ($F_{ST}=0.1245$) and the lowest ($F_{ST}=0.011$) $F_{ST}$ distances observed between Boran and Abigar, and Sheko and Abigar from the indigenous cattle, respectively. The phylogenetic network analysis revealed that all the haplotypes detected clustered together with the Bos taurus cattle and converged to a haplogroup. No haplotype in Ethiopian cattle was observed clustered with the reference Bos indicus group. The mismatch distribution analysis indicates a single population expansion event among the cattle populations. Conclusion: Overall, high haplotype variability was observed among Ethiopian cattle populations and they share a common ancestor with Bos taurus.

Vacuum kinetic spray(VKS) is a relatively advanced process for fabricating thin/thick and dense ceramic coatings via submicron-sized particle impact at room temperature. However, unfortunately, the particle velocity, which is an important value for investigating the deposition mechanism, has not been clarified yet. Thus, in this research, VKS average particle velocities were derived by numerical analysis method(CFD: computational fluid dynamics) connected with an experimental approach(SCM: slit cell method). When the process gas or powder particles are accelerated by a compressive force generated by gas pressure in kinetic spraying, a tensile force generated by the vacuum in the VKS system accelerates the process gas. As a result, the gas is able to reach supersonic speed even though only 0.6MPa gas pressure is used in VKS. In addition, small size powders can be accelerated up to supersonic velocity by means of the drag-force of the low pressure process gas flow. Furthermore, in this process, the increase of gas flow makes the drag-force stronger and gas distribution more homogenized in the pipe, by which the total particle average velocity becomes higher and the difference between max. and min. particle velocity decreases. Consequently, the control of particle size and gas flow rate are important factors in making the velocity of particles high enough for successful deposition in the VKS system.
