Purpose. Because of a recent increase in use of soft contact lens at younger ages, in the present study, the correlation between corneal eccentricity and radius of curvature and fitting types of contact lens was investigated. Methods. The study evaluated the fitting status of targets through lens centration, push-up test, dynamic lag test and static lag test of lenses usually worn by 49 men and women (98eyes) in their 20s to 30s who put on soft contact lenses. After evaluation, the subjects were classified into 3 categories by fitting status(steep, aligment and flat). The radius of corneal curvature in the naked eyes was measured by using keratometer. Moreover the corneal eccentricity in the nasal side, temporal side, superior side and inferior side was measured by using the device capable of measuring the corneal eccentricity. Results. The radius of corneal curvature and corneal eccentricity of soft lenses worn by subjects were higher in the order of steep fitting and flat fitting, and the higher average corneal curvature radius and corneal eccentricity is intend to be more steep fitting(p=0.051, p=0.052). The corneal eccentricity showed a tendency to nasal fitting type at the higher eccentricity and temporal fitting type at the smaller eccentricity, statistically significant difference was observed(p<0.05). The study showed there were low correlation that nasal and temporal side at steep fitting, superior side at normal fitting and 4side(nasal, temporal, superior, inferior) at flat fitting, therefore when the corneal eccentricity changed the radius of corneal curvature also changed. The corneal eccentricity and the radius of corneal curvature showed statistically significant difference at 4side and each fitting types(p<0.05). Conclusions. The results of this study, the fitting status, of wearer are based on radius of corneal curvature and corneal eccentricity, and if lens fitting would be done considering that, it seems to be useful in a soft contact lens prescription.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the differences in the ski carving turn motion according to level of expertise. The posture and movement of 6 skiers nearby the fall-line was evaluated with a biomechanical approach focusing the rotational mechanics. The slope was at an angle of $9^{\circ}$ and the following variables were measured and calculated: tangential velocity, change of COM height after passing fall-line, width between feet, angle between upper body and thigh, trunk angle, average radius of curvature and average centripetal force. The expert skiers minimized their center of mass height movement and maintained the width of between their feet after the passing the fall-line in comparison with the beginners and intermediate skiers. The experts restrained themselves from pushing their upper body downward after the turn to maximize the centripetal force. The experts in comparison with the beginners and intermediate skiers during the turn didn't have to reduce their radius of curvature to maintain a high centripetal force. It was concluded, that the most important factor affecting the centripetal force, was for the beginners and intermediate skiers, to minimize their movement while using the appropriate amount of edging.

The kinematically admissible velocity field is developed for the analysis of extruded products. The curving of product in extrusion is caused by the linearly distributed longitudinal velocity on the cross-section of the workpiece at the die exit. In the analysis, the longitudinal velocity in extrusion direction is divided into the uniform velocity and the deviated velocity. In order to satisfy the requrement of the kinematically admissible velocity field, the average value of the deviated velocity should be zero. At the same time, it should linearly change with the distance form the center of gravity of the cross-section of the workpiece. The results of the analysis show that the curvature of product increses with increses in eccentricity of gravity center of the cross-section of workpiece at die entrance form that of the cross-section at the die exit. In the analysis, the longitudinal velocity in extrusion direction is divided into the uniform velocity and the deviated velocity. In order to satisfy the requrement of the kinematically admissible velocity field, the average value of the deviated velocity should be zero. The development systems for the Structural Health Monitoring has attracted considerable interest from several engineering fields during the last decades and more specifically in the aerospace one. In fact, the introduction of those systems could allow the transition of the maintenance strategy from a scheduled basis to a condition-based approach providing cost benefits for the companies. The research presented in this paper consists of a definition and next comparison of four methods applied to numerical measurements for the extraction of damage features. The first method is based on the determination of the Structural Intensity field at the on-resonance condition in order to acquire information about the dissipation of vibrational energy throughout the structure. The Damage Quantification Indicator and the Average Integrated Global Amplitude Criterion methods need the evaluation of the Frequency Response Function for a healthy plate and a damaged one. The main difference between these two parameters is their mathematical definition and therefore the accuracy of the scalar values provided as output. The fourth and last method is based on the Mode-shape Curvature, a FRF-based technique which requires the application of particular finite-difference schemes for the derivation of the curvature of the plate. All the methods have been assessed for several damage conditions (the shape, the extension and the intensity of the damage) on two test plates: an isotropic (steel) plate and a 4-plies composite plate.

The breast types of middle-aged women of 80A (formerly 80B) size were classified through a 3D scanned nude body. Thirty seven measurements including the radius of curvature, surface area, volume, surface length, and breast displacements were used as input variables. We extracted five main factors through the factor analysis of the measurements and classified 36 subjects into 3 clusters through the cluster analysis. As a result of the factor analysis, the size of the breast, breast sag, the curvature of the inner and the outer breast curve, the width of the breast, and the nipple direction were found as the main factors. For the results of the classification of breast types, Cluster 1 was characterized by narrow breast width and unsymmetrical under the breast curve, whereas Cluster 2 was a wide and sagged shape. Cluster 3 was classified into big breast volume and symmetrical under-breast curve. The results are useful to the product development of high quality brassieres which reflect the 3D characteristics of breast types of middle-aged women.

Electrocardiogram(ECG) signal is one of the unique bio-signals of individuals and is used for personal authentication. The existing studies on personal authentication method using ECG signals show a high detection rate for a small group of candidates, but a low detection rate and increased execution time for a large group of candidates. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical algorithm that extracts fiducial points based on curvature of ECG signals as feature values for grouping candidates and identifies candidates using waveform-based comparisons. As a result of experiments on 74 ECG signal records of QT-DB provided by Physionet, the detection rate was about 97% at 3-heartbeat input and about 99% at 5-heartbeat input. The average execution time was 22.4 milliseconds. In conclusion, the proposed method improves the detection rate by the hierarchical personal authentication process, and also shows reduced amount of computation which is plausible in real-time personal authentication usage in the future.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the distribution and change of curvature of the anterior corneal surface with age in emmetropia. 504 subjects who have emmetroia with good naked vision of at least 0.6-1.0 (spherical equivalent: +0.75D- -0.75D) participated in this study. The 504 subjects into 8 groups with 10 year interval from 3-year to 83-year, and their corneal curvatures were analyzed using manual keratometry. The results are as follows. In individual analysis: First, regression analysis of corneal curvature radius with age has given an equation: Y = -0.003x + 7.796 (r = -0.26). The average corneal curvature radii was measured to be $7.68{\pm}0.25mm$ at 38.3-year and range was 6.98-8.54 mm. Second, frequency of corneal curvature radius were obtained in 36% between 7.61 and 7.80 mm, 78% between 7.41 and 8.00 mm, 96% between 7.21 and 8.20 mm, 100% between 6.98 and 8.54 mm. Third, as for the comparison of corneal curvature radius with respect to sex, The mean value of male (n = 304, mean: 37.6-year $7.72{\pm}0.24mm$, Range: 7.09-8.54 mm) is larger than that of female (n = 200, mean: 39.3-year $7.62{\pm}0.24mm$, Range: 6.98-8.42 mm) by 0.1mm (p<0.01). In groups analysis: First, regression analysis of corneal curvature radius with age has given an equation: $Y=-0.0066x^2+0.0227x+7.7282$ (r = -0.90). Second, vertical and horizontal curvature radius decreased with age (p < 0.01). Especially the decrease of horizontal curvature radius were more pronounced than the decrease of vertical (horizontal:10-70 age group: 0.38 mm decrease, vertical:10-70 age group: 0.20 mm decrease). Third, difference between steep and flat meridian (astigmatism) progressively decreased with age. (low age group:0.18 mm difference, high age group: 0.08 mm difference). Fourth, the corneal curvature radius of male was larger than female's in total groups(p < 0.01). Consequently, the change of corneal curvature radius with age progressively decreased in all conditions (mean, vertical, horizontal, male, and female) and this change was more outstanding in horizontal rather than in vertical.
A computational investigation of blood flow in a coronary artery grafted by artificial bypass was performed to determine such geometric parameters as the curvature of radius, approach length, and angle of end-to-side anastomosis. Transient flow features in the host artery were computed using FVM and SIMPLE algorithms. We compared flow distributions and wall shear stresses in two simple models, planar and non-planar, and confirmed that the non-planar bypass model was more conducive to suppressing intimal hyperplasia. Our non-planar model with $60^{\circ}$ of anastomosis and a 1.0 diameter approach length and radius of curvature predicts a relatively small, spatially-extended high-OSI (>0.01) zone, as well as an increased average wall shear stress on this zone.

In case of calculation of an immediate deflection according to EC2, a curvature and average curvature are calculated by reflecting tension stiffening effect. In this study, tension stiffening effects according to MC90 and EC2 were considered, and an immediate deflection was calculated. And also, it was compared to results in KCI provision and experimental data. In results, it has difference around 8~15% with respect to tension stiffening effect, but all of them predict well for the load-deflection behavior after yielding state.

The aim of this paper is to examine the end bearing capacity of a pile in cohesionless soils. The ode of failure of soil due to pile installation is assumed from experimental observation of actual soil deformation. A new solution is proposed complying with the assumed mode of failure by employing the theory of cavity expansion. The effect of curvature of failure envelope is studied in relation to tile proposed solution. The influence of a curved failure envelope becomes larger with increasing degree of curvature and the level of confining stress. This effect in some cases or reduce the end bearing capacity by tore the 80 percent compared with that given by a straight failure envelope. For practical application of tile proposed solution, the method of determining the average volume change in the plastic zone is re-evaluated. The proposed solution is confirmed by comparing the theoretical values with experimental results obtained from model pile tests in a calibration chamber. The comparison shows that the proposed solution provides a reasonable prediction of end bearing capacity for both weak and strong grained soils.
