Two tales of platoon intelligence for autonomous mobility control: Enabling deep learning recipes

  • This paper surveys recent multiagent reinforcement learning and neural Myerson auction deep learning efforts to improve mobility control and resource management in autonomous ground and aerial vehicles. The multiagent reinforcement learning communication network (CommNet) was introduced to enable multiple agents to perform actions in a distributed manner to achieve shared goals by training all agents' states and actions in a single neural network. Additionally, the Myerson auction method guarantees trustworthiness among multiple agents to optimize rewards in highly dynamic systems. Our findings suggest that the integration of MARL CommNet and Myerson techniques is very much needed for improved efficiency and trustworthiness.

  • In this paper, a smartphone-controlled personal mobility system (PMS) with semi-autonomous navigation is developed. The proposed PMS moves to waypoints and then reaches the destination where the waypoints and destination are selected by the user using Google maps in a smartphone. The hardware environment consists of a GPS (Global Positioning System) in the smartphone and a compass sensor. In addtion, while it is moving in autonomous mode, the user can intervene and change the direction and speed of the PMS in order to avoid obstacles that may be encountered accidentally in a dynamic environment. That is why it is called "semi-autonomous navigation". Experimental results showed that the proposed PMS is effectively able to migrate to the waypoints and destination in both autonomous and manual modes.

  • Industrial and economical importance of CP(Cellular Phone) is growing rapidly. Combined with IT technology, CP is one of the most attractive technologies of today. However, unless we find a new breakthrough in the technology, its growth may slow down soon. RT(Robot Technology) is considered one of the most promising next generation technologies. Unlike the industrial robot of the past, today's robots require advanced features, such as soft computing, human-friendly interface, interaction technique, speech recognition object recognition, among many others. In this paper, we present a new technological concept named RCP (Robotic Cellular Phone) which integrates RT and CP in the vision of opening a combined advancement of CP, IT, and RT, RCP consists of 3 sub-modules. They are $RCP^{Mobility}$(RCP Mobility System), $RCP^{Interaction}$, and $RCP^{Integration}$. The main focus of this paper is on $RCP^{Mobility}$ which combines an autonomous navigation system of the RT mobility with CP. Through $RCP^{Mobility}$, we are able to provide CP with robotic functions such as auto-charging and real-world robotic entertainment. Ultimately, CP may become a robotic pet to the human beings. $RCP^{Mobility}$ consists of various controllers. Two of the main controllers are trajectory controller and self-localization controller. While the former is responsible for the wheel-based navigation of RCP, the latter provides localization information of the moving RCP With the coordinates acquired from RFID-based self-localization controller, trajectory controller refines RCP's movement to achieve better navigation. In this paper, a prototype of $RCP^{Mobility}$ is presented. We describe overall structure of the system and provide experimental results on the RCP navigation.

  • Low fertility rates and increased life expectancy further exacerbate the process of an aging society. This is also reflected in the gradual increase in the proportion of vulnerable groups in the social population. The demand for improved mobility among vulnerable groups such as the elderly or the disabled has greatly driven the growth of the electric-assisted mobility device market. However, such mobile devices generally require a certain operating capability, which limits the range of vulnerable groups who can use the device and increases the cost of learning. Therefore, autonomous driving technology needs to be introduced to make mobility easier for a wider range of vulnerable groups to meet their needs of work and leisure in different environments. This study uses mini PC Odyssey, Velodyne Lidar VLP-16, electronic device and Linux-based ROS program to realize the functions of working environment recognition, simultaneous localization, map generation and navigation of electric powered mobile devices for vulnerable groups. This autonomous driving mobility device is expected to be of great help to the vulnerable who lack the immediate response in dangerous situations.

  • 실시간 수요대응형 자율주행 버스는 자율주행 버스와 실시간 수요대응형 버스의 단점을 상쇄시킨 미래교통수단이다. 하지만 버스 기능의 고도화로 실시간 수요대응형 자율주행 버스 도입 시 영향에 관한 정량화된 연구는 활발하지 않은 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 강화학습 기반 실시간 수요대응형 자율주행 버스를 미시적 교통 시뮬레이션에 적용하여 실시간 수요대응형 자율주행 버스의 정량화된 효과평가를 실시하였다. 구체적으로 수요 변화에 따라 실시간 수요대응형 자율주행 버스가 도로 네트워크에 끼치는 영향과 이용자 대기시간을 미시적 시뮬레이션 안에서 구현하였다. 시뮬레이션 대상지로는 한국교통대학교 인근을 선정하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 실시간 수요대응형 자율주행 버스는 기존 노선 고정형 버스 대비 이용자 대기시간과 평균제어지체는 감소하였고, 평균통행속도는 증가하였다. 본 연구를 통해 실시간 수요대응형 버스의 도입을 정량적으로 평가하는 것이 기대된다.

Autonomous Navigation System for Power Wheelchair System

  • The power wheelchair is an important and convenient mobility device. The demand of power wheelchair is increasing for assistance in mobility. In this paper we proposed a robotic wheelchair for mobility aid to reduce the burden from the disabled. The main issue in an autonomous wheelchair is the automatic detection and avoidance of obstacles and going to the pre-designated place. The proposed algorithm detects the obstacles and avoids them to drive the wheelchair to the desired place safely with panning scan from sensors of distance measurement and fuzzy control. By this way, the disabled will not always have to worry about paying deep attention to the surroundings and his path.

  • 본 논문은 전동 휠체어 시스템에서 반 자율주행 및 안전 주행, 장애물 회피를 위한 퍼지 신경망 제어 주행 시스템을 제안, 디자인 및 임베디드 리눅스 시스템을 통해 구현하고 검증한다. 자율주행 장애물 검출 알고리즘을 위해 거리측정 센서를 통해 장애물의 크기를 파악하고 회피할 수 있는 폭과 각도, 거리 및 속도를 계산하여 계획된 경로대로 이동할 수 있는 알고리즘을 구현한다. 또한 거리측정 센서를 최소화하기 위해 휠체어 앞쪽에 2개의 스텝모터를 통해 거리측정 센서를 좌우로 움직이면서 패닝 스캔을 한다. 퍼지 신경망 제어 주행 시스템은 센서 스캐닝을 통한 맵 데이터를 분석하고 주행 알고리즘에 따른 자율 주행 경로를 설정한다. 정해진 자율 주행 경로는 퍼지 신경망 제어 주행시스템을 통해 전등 휠체어 컨트롤 주행을 제어 운용한다. 그리고 보호자를 위한 전동 휠체어 보호자 트래킹 알고리즘을 구현한다. 본 시스템은 장애인 및 움직임이 불편한 노인을 위한 반 자동 전동휠체어 시스템을 구축하여 안전하게 사용자가 운용할 수 있게 한다.
