New antibacterial Polyurethane foams for car seat with Urushiol extracted from a natural lacquer were prepared. Influences of antibacterial agent's concentration on the reactivity with isocyanate and the mechanical properties of foams were investigated. It was observed that the urethane formation reaction was delayed a little when the amount of Urushiol was increased. However, the foams made using Urushiol showed similar property to the neat polyurethane foam. In terms of antibacterial property, the foams prepared with Urushiol showed better performance than the neat polyurethane foam.

This paper presents a hardware development procedure of the ASB(Active Seat Belt) control system to comply with ISO 26262. The ASIL(Automotive Safety Integrity Level) of an ASB system is determined through the HARA(Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment) and the safety mechanism is applied to meet the reqired ASIL. The hardware architecture of the controller consists of a microcontroller, H-bridge circuits, passive components, and current sensors which are used for the input comparison. The required ASIL for the control systems is shown to be satisfied with the safety mechanism by calculation of the SPFM(Single Point Fault Metric) and the LFM(Latent Fault Metric) for the design circuits.
In order to reduce the time and costs of improving the performance of vehicle suspensions, the techniques for optimizing damping and air spring characteristic were proposed. A full vehicle model for a bus is constructed with a car body, front and rear suspension linkages, air springs, dampers, tires, and a steering system. An air spring and a damper are modeled with nonlinear characteristics using experimental data and a curve fitting technique. The objective function for ride quality is WRMS (Weighted RMS) of the power spectral density of the vertical acceleration at the driver's seat, middle seat and rear seat. The objective function for handling performance is the RMS (Root Mean Squares) of the roll angle, roll rate, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration at the center of gravity of a body during a lane change. The design variables are determined by damping coefficients, damping exponents and curve fitting parameters of air spring characteristic curves. The Taguchi method is used in order to investigate sensitivity of design variables. Since ride and handling performances are mutually conflicting characteristics, the validity of the developed optimum design procedure is demonstrated by comparing the trends of ride and handling performance indices with respect to the ratio of weighting factors. The global criterion method is proposed to obtain the solution of multi-objective optimization problem.
Purpose: Impaired reaching movement is commonly observed in children with cerebral palsy. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the inclination of seat surface can influence the reaching movement in children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy (CP). Methods: The subjects were 31 children, 16 children with spastic bilateral CP and 15 typically developing (TD) children. The children performed static sitting and forward reaching under three conditions: a horizontal seat surface (Horizontal $0^{\circ}$), a seat surface inclined anterior 15 degrees (Ant $15^{\circ}$), and a seat surface inclined posterior 15 degrees (Post $15^{\circ}$). A 3-axis accelerometer ('ZSTAR3') was used for analysis of the reaching movement. A 3-axis accelerometer was attached on the manubrium of the sternum, lateral epicondyle of the humerus, and styloid process of the ulna. We measured the reaction time, movement time, and data amount during reaching the 8 cm target with an index finger on the three inclined seat surfaces. Results: Reaction time and movement time for CPs showed significant delay; comparing the TD's and CP's amount was significantly greater than the TD's during reaching task (p<0.05). In particular, CP's reaction time and movement time on a seat surface inclined Ant $15^{\circ}$ was significantly more delayed compared with the other seat surfaces (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our results suggest that seat-inclination intervention may provide an ergonomic approach for children with spastic cerebral palsy.
Recent developing tendency of thermal spray for green automotive industry are studied by searching of NDSL, KIPRIS, ScienceDirect and so on. Spraying techniques such as plasma spray, microwave treatment, dry-ice blasting, HVOF thermal spray, cold spraying, aerosol deposition are introduced, further more spraying materials such as nano particles, intermetallic compound, TiAlN, TiC, Si-Al alloys are investigated.

Design of experiments is utilized for exploring the design space and for building response surface models in order to facilitate the effective solution of multi-objective optimization problems. Response surface models provide an efficient means to rapidly model the trade-off among many conflicting goals. In robust design, it is important not only to achieve robust design objectives but also to maintain the robustness of design feasibility under the effects of variations, called uncertainties. However, the evaluation of feasibility robustness often needs a computationally intensive process. To reduce the computational burden associated with the probabilistic feasibility evaluation, the first-order Taylor series expansions are used to derive individual mean and variance of constraints. For robust design applications, these constraint response surface models are used efficiently and effectively to calculate variances of constraints due to uncertainties. Robust optimization of automotive seat is used to illustrate the approach.

In this paper, a study is described on finding a relationship between discomfort and body pressure distribution. In the first step, experiments were conducted to find correlation between pressure distribution and discomfort. The experiments of 12 people on 9 seats were performed. In the second step, parameters and correlation coefficients were determined between the measured body pressure distribution and median values of the subjective evaluations of 12 subjects using psychophysical power law.
A mathematical model is developed in this paper to define the interaction between the occupant and vehicle passenger compartment and to predict the occupant dynamic response during a sudden impulse load. Two different types of occupants are considered in this study, child and adult occupants. The occupants are considered as lumped masses connected to the child seat and vehicle's body masses by means of restraint systems. In addition, the occupant restraint characteristics of seat belt and airbag are represented by stiffness and damping elements. To obtain the dynamic response of the occupant, the equations of motion of the occupants during vehicle collisions are developed and analytically solved. The occupant's acceleration and relative displacement are used as injury criteria to interpret the results. It is demonstrated from the numerical simulations that the dynamic response and injury criteria are easily captured and analyzed. It is also shown that the mathematical models are flexible, useful in optimization studies and it can be used at initial design stage.

The major effective factors on the ride quality of a vehicle are the vibration and noise of the engine and drive system. Engine contributes about 80% of the vibration and noise in the vehicle, and exciting forces of the engine are transmitted onto the vehicle frame through the engine mount. This paper studies the vibration reduction of a vehicle through the improvement of the engine mount. A computer program for optimal design is developed and the engine mount conditions are optimized to reduce the WRMS of PSD of acceleration at the driver's seat, which are caused by the exciting forces at the idle speed. Design variables are selected as the stiffness, mount angle and the location of the engine mount rubber. It is shown through computer simulation that the PSD of acceleration at the driver's seat can be improved by redesigning the engine mount system.
