A Study on Application of Yard Transportaion Equipment Automation System in the Container Terminal (컨테이너터미널에서 야드 이송장비 자동화 적용방안에 관한 연구)

  • International major container terminals are trying to expand automation facilities in order to dominate the competition and grow as central harbors. Recently, system design and development were put underway to fully integrate automation systems in container terminals. This is because it can focus on improving the efficiency of the yard operations in container terminals and facilitates integration with other container terminal operation processes. Automation in the container terminal business today is essential to better serve customers and improve profitability. Real-time position and status of container handling equipment (CHE) have been required for more efficient terminal operations and consequently higher productivity. This study examined the real-time location and status of the container terminal automation equipment using DGPS in container terminals, and reviewed the components and functions of the container terminal automation yard equipment systems that developed, applied, and operated the automation systems. In addition, this study compared the existing yard system and the automation yard system and presented application methods. Also, the results revealed that the productivity of the container terminal and the efficiency of the transportation equipment can be further increased when the optimal yard automation transportation equipment system is used to efficiently operate the transportation equipment, which is the core equipment of the container terminal.

  • Field works are decreasing gradually since advancement of industrial robots. Tunnel cleaning is a dangerous field work which can be solved only by introducingadvanced tunnel cleaning automation equipment. Industrial robots work tirelessly night and day without a loss in performance. Consequently, greatly reduce the costs of manufactured goods.So far only 200 construction robots are invented. Robots used for tunnel cleaning are not of high standard they always need additional workers for job to be done. Robots offer specific benefits to workers, industries and countries. If introduced correctly for tunnel cleaning, industrial robots can improve the quality of life by freeing workers from dirty, boring, dangerous and heavy labor. Development of advanced tunnel cleaning automation equipment is a must to overcome above issues. The benefits of robots to industry include improved management control, productivity and consistently high quality products. This research is a study on tunnel cleaning automation equipment and introducing advanced tunnel cleaning automation equipment.

Development of Test Simulator for Developing Fuel Quantity Measurement System for Supersonic Jet Trainer Conformal Fuel Tank (초음속항공기 보조연료탱크 연료량측정시스템 개발용 모사시험장치 개발)

  • A test simulator is needed to develop a fuel quantity measurement system that takes into account the roll and pitch motion of the aircraft. In this paper, we develop a test simulator that consists of attitude simulation equipment, fueling equipment, and data storage equipment. The attitude simulation equipment simulates the aircraft attitude. It is manufactured to operate pitch angle and roll angle movement. The fueling equipment supplies fuel to the supplementary fuel tank. The data storage equipment collects and stores the measured data. We also develop an automation software that operates the test simulator and collects data automatically. The test simulator has been automated to prevent testers from being exposed to toxic fuel. Through automation software, the collection period is reduced by one quarter compared to manual collection. The developed fuel quantity measurement system is verified through the test simulator.

  • The operations of the warehouses are labor intensive. Automation of the warehouse is made by efforts to shorten the work time and reduce the cost according to the change of the production form of the company and the buyer's demand. Storage warehouses vary in size and shape, and equipment and facilities used in storage warehouses vary according to purpose and use. In order to automate storage, it is necessary to introduce an operating system, which varies depending on the type of equipment and operation policy. In this paper, we review the requirements for the automation of small and medium-sized storage warehouses, and classify the equipment selection and operating system options into effective scenarios to introduce an effective automation system. Therefore, simulation is performed for each scenario, and the effect of automation is examined, and the effect of automation is verified through economic analysis through cost for automation introduction.

  • As recently raw water quality has been polluted as well as its quality has been remarkably varied according to season and region, the precise control of coagulant dosage is being keenly required in water treatment plants. The amount of coagulant is closely related to raw water quality such as turbidity, alkalinity, water temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, etc. Since the optimum quantity of chemicals is not yet finalized, so dosage rate must be decided by using jar test that takes one or two hours. Hereupon, the output signal of stream current and multi-regression on historical data were proposed to be applied to the coagulant dosing control. In consequence of applying the scheme to automatic determination of the dosage rate, it was testified that the determination of dosage rate was very effective in case it is performed as to real-time sensing of water quality and the output signal of stream current.

  • This paper presents the design and project of an innovative concept for a Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) Machine. Nowadays, equipment currently available for conducting SPIF result mostly from the adaptation of conventional CNC machine tools that results in a limited range of applications in terms of materials and geometries. There is also a limited market supply of equipment dedicated to Incremental Sheet Forming (ISF), that are costly considering low batches, making it unattractive for industry. Other factors impairing a quicker spread of SPIF are large forming times and poor geometrical accuracy of parts. The following sections will depict the development of a new equipment, designed to overcome some of the limitations of machines currently used, allowing the development of a sounding basis for further studies on the particular features of this process. The equipment here described possesses six-degrees-of freedom for the tool, for the sake of improved flexibility in terms of achievable tool-paths and an extra stiffness provided by a parallel kinematics scheme. A brief state of the art about the existing SPIF machines is provided to support the project's guidelines.

  • According to Korea Standard Association (KSA-0013) storage facilities are so broadly defined that one cannot easily understand the area and contents of storage facilities. Generally speaking warehouse represents storage facilities which links two nodes in various logistics activities, and storage facilities should contain other facilities like mechanization equipment, automation equipment, information equipment, etc. This study is to show the direction of the evaluation method on the effectiveness of standardized storage facilities. The storage facilities treated in this research are not only storage facilities like warehouse but also storage supporting facilities like mechanization equipment, automation equipment, information equipment, etc. The method for evaluating the effectiveness of standardized storage facilities is to developing some measure of effectiveness (MOE) which represents the entire standardized effectiveness of storage related facilities. This study has originality in that the method for evaluation of standardized storage facilities has not been developed up to now.

  • This paper suggests a specific model that could efficiently improve the interaction and the interface between MES(Manufacturing Execution System) server and POP(Point of Production) terminal through electronic document server and electronic pen, bluetooth receiver and form paper in disassembly and process inspection works. The proposed model shows that the new method by electronic document automation system can more efficiently perform to reduce processing time for maintenance work, compared with the current approach by handwritten processing system. It is noted in case of the method by electronic document automation system that the effects of proposed model are as follows; (a) While the processing time per equipment for maintenance by the current method was 300 minutes, the processing time by the new method was 50 minutes. (b) While the processing error ratio by the current method was 20%, the error ratio by the new method was 1%.
