  • Image segmentation technique is becoming increasingly important in the field of remote sensing image analysis in areas such as object oriented image classification to extract object regions of interest within images. This paper presents a new method for image segmentation in High Resolution Remote Sensing Image based on Improved Seeded Region Growing (ISRG) and Region merging. Firstly, multi-spectral edge detection was done using an entropy operator in pan-sharpened QuickBird imagery. Then, the initial seeds were automatically selected from the obtained multi-spectral edge map. After automatic selection of significant seeds, an initial segmentation was achieved by applying ISRG to consider spectral and edge information. Finally the region merging process, integrating region texture and spectral information, was carried out to get the final segmentation result. The accuracy assesment was done using the unsupervised objective evaluation method for evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed method. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method has good potential for application in the segmentation of high resolution satellite images.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a supervisory way to improve the efficiency of Building Supervision using Deep Learning, especially object detecting technology. Since the establishment of the Building Supervision system in Korea, it has been changed and improved many times systematically, but it is hard to find any improvement in terms of implementing methods. Therefore, the Supervision is until now the area where a lot of money, time and manpower are needed. This might give a room for superficial, formal and documentary supervision that could lead to faulty construction. This study suggests a way of Building Supervision which is more automatic and effective so that it can lead to save the time, effort and money. And the way is to detect the hoop-bars of a column and count the number of it automatically. For this study, we made a hoop-bar detecting network by transfor learnning of YOLOv2 network through MATLAB. Among many training experiments, relatively most accurate network was selected, and this network was able to detect rebar placement in building site pictures with the accuracy of 92.85% for similar images to those used in trainings, and 90% or more for new images at specific distance. It was also able to count the number of hoop-bars. The result showed the possibility of automatic Building Supervision and its efficiency improvement.

  • Numerous investigations have explored the integration of machine leaning algorithms with high-resolution drone image for object detection in urban settings. However, a prevalent limitation in vehicle extraction studies involves the reliance on bounding boxes rather than instance segmentation. This limitation hinders the precise determination of vehicle direction and exact boundaries. Instance segmentation, while providing detailed object boundaries, necessitates labour intensive labelling for individual objects, prompting the need for research on automating unsupervised instance segmentation in vehicle extraction. In this study, a novel approach was proposed for vehicle extraction utilizing unsupervised SVM classification applied to vehicle bounding boxes in drone images. The method aims to address the challenges associated with bounding box-based approaches and provide a more accurate representation of vehicle boundaries. The study showed promising results, demonstrating an 89% accuracy in vehicle extraction. Notably, the proposed technique proved effective even when dealing with significant variations in spectral characteristics within the vehicles. This research contributes to advancing the field by offering a viable solution for automatic and unsupervised instance segmentation in the context of vehicle extraction from image.

  • Companies that want to improve their manufacturing processes have recently introduced the smart factory, which is particularly noticeable. The ultimate goal is to maximize the area of the smart factory that performs the process of the production facility completely with minimal manual control and to minimize errors of reasoning. This research is a part of a project for unmanned production, management, packaging, and delivery management and the detection of the start point of rebars to perform the automatic calibration of the rollers through the tracking of the automated facilities of unmanned production. It must meet the requirement to accurately track the position from the start point to the end point. In order to improve the tracking performance, it is important to set the accurate start point. However, the probability of tracking errors is high depending on environments such as illumination and dust through the conventional time-based detection method. In this paper, we propose a starting point detection method using the average brightness change of high speed IR camera to reduce the errors according to the environments, As a result, its performance is improved by more than 15%.

  • Spraying operation is one of the most essential in an orchard management and it is also hazardous to human body. for automatic and unmanned spraying , an autonomous travelling vehicle is demanded. In this study, a telemeter was developed using infrared beam which could detect trunks and obstacles measure distance and direction from the vehicle travelling in the orchard. The telemeter system was composed of two infrared LED transmitters and receivers, a beam scanning device for continuous object detection , two rotary encoders for angle detector, and a beam level controller for uneven soil surface. The detected distance and direction signal s were sent to personal computer which made for the system display the angular and distance measurements through I/O board. According to a field test in an apple farm, the system detected up to 10m distance under 12 V of transmitted beam intensity, however, it was recommended that the proper beam transmit intensity be 7 v at the 10 m distance, because of the negative effect to human body at 12 V. The error rate of this system was 0.92 % when the actual distance was compared to measured one. The system was feasible at the small error rate. The developed telemeter system was an important part for autonomous travelling vehicle provided the real time object recognition . A direction control system could be constructed suing the system. It is expected that the system could greatly contribute to the development of autonomous farm vehicle.

  • Tn this paper, We propose a user friendly object-based multimedia retrieval system using the HCNN(HippoCampus Neural Network. Most existing approaches to content-based retrieval rely on query by example or user based low-level features such as color, shape, texture. In this paper we perform a scene change detection and key frame extraction for the compressed video stream that is video compression standard such as MPEG. We propose a method for automatic color object extraction and ACE(Adaptive Circular filter and Edge) of content-based multimedia retrieval system. And we compose multimedia retrieval system after learned by the HCNN such extracted features. Proposed HCNN makes an adaptive real-time content-based multimedia retrieval system using excitatory teaming method that forwards important features to long-term memories and inhibitory learning method that forwards unimportant features to short-term memories controlled by impression.

  • In this paper, we propose the method that automatically extracts the silhouette and the joints of consecutive input image, and track joints to trace object for interaction between human and computer. Also the proposed method presents the action of human being to map human body using joints. To implement the algorithm, we model human body using 14 joints to refer to body size. The proposed method converts RGB color image acquired through a single camera to hue, saturation, value images and extracts body's silhouette using the difference between the background and input. Then we automatically extracts joints using the corner points of the extracted silhouette and the data of body's model. The motion of object is tracted by applying block-matching method to areas around joints among all image and the human's motion is mapped using positions of joints. The proposed method is applied to the test videos and the result shows that the proposed method automatically extracts joints and effectively maps human body by the detected joints. Also the human's action is aptly expressed to reflect locations of the joints

  • Automatic detection of objects in images has been one of core challenges in the areas such as computer vision and pattern analysis. Especially, with the recent deployment of personal mobile devices such as smart phone, such technology is required to be transported to them. Usually, these smart phone users are equipped with devices such as camera, GPS, and gyroscope and provide various services through user-friendly interface. However, the smart phones fail to give excellent performance due to limited system resources. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to improve object recognition performance based on pre-computation and simple local features. In the pre-processing, we first find several representative parts from similar type objects and classify them. In addition, we extract features from each classified part and train them using regression functions. For a given query image, we first find candidate representative parts and compare them with trained information to recognize objects. Through experiments, we have shown that our proposed scheme can achieve resonable performance.

  • At present, GEOBIA (Geographic Object-based Image Analysis), heir of OBIA (Object-based Image Analysis), is regarded as an important methodology by object-oriented paradigm for remote sensing, dealing with geo-objects related to image segmentation and classification in the different view point of pixel-based processing. This also helps to directly link to GIS applications. Thus, GEOBIA software is on the booming. The main theme of this study is to look into the applicability of geo-spatial processing open source to GEOBIA. However, there is no few fully featured open source for GEOBIA which needs complicated schemes and algorithms, till It was carried out to implement a preliminary system for GEOBIA running an integrated and user-oriented environment. This work was performed by using various open sources such as OTB or PostgreSQL/PostGIS. Some points are different from the widely-used proprietary GEOBIA software. In this system, geo-objects are not file-based ones, but tightly linked with GIS layers in spatial database management system. The mean shift algorithm with parameters associated with spatial similarities or homogeneities is used for image segmentation. For classification process in this work, tree-based model of hierarchical network composing parent and child nodes is implemented by attribute join in the semi-automatic mode, unlike traditional image-based classification. Of course, this integrated GEOBIA system is on the progressing stage, and further works are necessary. It is expected that this approach helps to develop and to extend new applications such as urban mapping or change detection linked to GIS data sets using GEOBIA.
