Recently, great demands are rising around the globe for monitoring and studying of long-term ecological changes. To go with the stream, many researchers in South Korea have attempted to share and integrate ecological data for practical use. Although some achievements were made in the meantime, we still have to overcome a big obstacle that existing ecological data in South Korea are mostly spread all over the country in various formats of computer files. In this study, we aim to handle the situation by developing a semi-automatic data conversion tool for Korean ecological data standardization, based on some predefined protocols for ecological data collection and management. The current implementation of this tool works on only five species (libythea celtis, spittle bugs, mosquitoes, pinus, and quercus mongolica), helping data managers to quickly and efficiently obtain a standardized format of ecological data from raw collection data. With this tool, the procedure of data conversion is divided into four steps: data file and protocol selection step, species selection step, attribute mapping step, and data standardization step. To find the usability of this tool, we utilized it to conduct the standardization of raw five species data collected from six different observatory sites of Korean National Parks. As a result, we could obtain a common form of standardized data in a relatively short time. With the help of this tool, various ecological data could be easily integrated into the nationwide common platform, providing broad applicability towards solving many issues in ecological and environmental system.

Midnight electrical power appliance has come into a wide use due to the midnight power rate system introduced for effective power operation and an improved load factor. However, the sharply increased number of the appliance has brought about a serious problem in midnight power supply for the past few years. Moreover, the automatic control device, developed to address the problem, has not properly functioned because of the misusage and illegal conversion of the device. This paper will suggest solutions to the problem by improving the automatic control system for supply time (ACST) and demonstrate its effectiveness through tests.
FTA(Fault Tree Analysis) is a safety analysis method that focuses on one particular accident or main system failure and provides a method of determining causes of that event. While most of the statistical and cut set analysis have been automated, actual construction of the fault-tree is usually done manually. Manual construction of the fault-tree is extremely time consuming and it requires high level of expertise and experience. In addition to the time involved, different analyst often produces different fault-trees either by incorrect logic or omission of certain events. Automatic fault-tree construction system can be efficient in solving above problems. This study presents a new Digraph-FT conversion algorithm that leads automatic FTA system.

Combinational automatic test pattern generators (CATPG) have already been commercialized because their algorithms are well known and practical, while sequential automatic test pattern generators(SATPG) have been regarded as impractical because they are computationally complex. A technique to use CATPG instead of SATPG for test generation of sequential circuits is proposed. Redesign of seauential circuits such as Level Sensitive Scan Design (LSSD) is inevitable to use CATPG. Various partial scan techniques has been proposed to avoid full scan such as LSSD. It ha sbeen reported that SATPG is required to use partial scan techniques. We propose a technique to use CATPG for a new partial scan technique, and propose a new CATPG algorithm for the partially scanned circuits. The partial scan technique can be another choice of design for testability because it is computationally advantageous.
Advanced control algorithms must be used to make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable. In this study, we develop a new and simple control scheme that employs model predictive control (MPC), which is used in permanent magnet synchronous generators and grid-connected inverters. The proposed control law is based on two points, namely, MPC-based torque-current control loop is used for the generator-side converter to reach the maximum power point of the wind turbine, and MPC-based direct power control loop is used for the grid-side converter to satisfy the grid code and help improve system stability. Moreover, a simple prediction scheme is developed for the direct-drive wind energy conversion system (WECS) to reduce the computation burden for real-time applications. A small-scale WECS laboratory prototype is built and evaluated to verify the validity of the developed control methods. Acceptable results are obtained from the real-time implementation of the proposed MPC methods for WECS.

An algorithm and its computer program were developed for the computer aided automatic conversion from 2-D design drawing, which includes arbitrary curves, to a 3-D object, and the 3-D object obtained from the developed program was used to generate the tool path of NC milling machine. The algorithm and its computer program developed were applied to several real objects for their feasibility check and showed satisfactory results. Therefore, it was proved that the algorithm and its program developed can be applied to the CAM for the mechanical parts having arbitraily curved shapes by automatically generating its 3-D object. As a result of this study a basic theory for the integration of CAD/CAM was established which will prompt the improved quality and productivity.
A prototype radar display unit was implemented using inexpensive off-the-shelf components, including a nonlinear estimation algorithm for the target tracking in a clutter environment. Two custom designed boards; an analog signal processing board and a DSP board, can be plugged into an expansion slot of a personal computer (PC) to form a maritime radar display unit. Our system provided all the functionality specified in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) resolution A422(XI). The analog signal processing board was used for A/D conversion as well as rain and sea clutter suppression. The main functions of the DSP board were scan conversion and video overlay operations. A host PC was used to run the tracking algorithm of targets in clutter, using the discrete-time Bayes optimal (nonlinear, and non-Gaussian) estimation method, and the graphic user interface (GUI) software for Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA). The proposed tracking method recursively found the entire probability density function of the target position and velocity by converting into linear convolution operations.

The finite element programs have been developed for structure, collision, flow, dynamics, heat transfer, acoustics, electromagnetism, MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems), and etc. These programs can be classified as either "package" program or "single purpose" program. Single purpose programs usually have convenient and powerful functions, but these programs have limited expandability to different fields of analysis. Therefore, the method to converter the analysis results of single purpose program to other programs is needed. In the research, multi-body data conversion methods of 1) finite element model and 2) solid model were created to convert fluid analysis result of CFD-ACE+ to ANSYS data structure. Automatic boundary condition algorithms were developed for blade, and finite element model was compared with solid model. It is expected that, by sealess data transfer, the Multi-body Data Conversion Program could reduce the development period of torque converters.

PDF is widely accepted as a standard document format and now it supports 3D contents as well. Within the engineering application areas, this new 3D feature may be used to support sharing of 3D documents and thus collaboration between engineering departments, suppliers and partners. In this paper, we describe a system that automatically generates formatted engineering documents including 3D data converted from 3D applications such as commercial 3D CAD viewer. The system consists of two major modules. One is U3D conversion module and the other is PDF conversion module. U3D conversion module extracts geometry, view data, assembly and disassembly information from 3D viewer and converts to U3D format, currently in IDTF text file format. PDF conversion module generates a PDF file and inserts U3D data, various annotation information, and scripts for custom generated operations such as assembly and disassembly in the PDF document.
