  • Water binder ratio combine high-performance concrete shrinkage of less than 0.4 to determine the transformation to a total shrinkage of water to move outside and internal consumption of moisture due to drying shrinkage and autogenous shrinkage, and then, the relative humidity changes and strain to be approached by surface physics describe the relationship between self-desiccation and autogenous shrinkage was set. To verify the self-desiccation in the humidity shrinkage and humidity measurements performed, and the research model, Tazawa, CEB-FIP model than to let the measure and the most similar results in this study based on self-desiccation model, autogenous shrinkage didn't represent the linear shrinkage by the drying shrinkage of the external moving but exponential relationships, unlike with the nature and rapid in the early age properly describes the attributes in shrinkage could see. After this research to move moisture and to reflect the shrinkage model, temperature, moisture transfer, strain analysis by multi-physics model is very similar to the results of mock-up specimen measurements performed for this research, the value measured by the internal consumption of moisture, therefore self-desiccation and a multi-physics model considering autogenous shrinkage might be relevant.

  • The moisture diffusion and self-desiccation cause the differential drying shrinkage and autogenous shrinkage at early ages, respecitvely. Thus total shrinkage strain includes the differential drying shrinkage and self-desiccation shrinkage. Thus in this study the shrinkage strain was measured at various positions in the exposed concrete and in the sealed concrete the self-desiccation shrinkage was measured. In low-strength concrete, the differential drying shrinkage increases very rapidly, but self-desiccation shrinkage is very small. But high-strength concrete shows the reverse result. And the analytical results for differential drying shrinkage were in good agreement with the test results.

  • The autogenous shrinkage is a important phenomenon of high performance concrete since it may decrease the concrete member's durability by induce crack at early age. So the autogenous shrinkage behavior of high strength concrete was studied according to different replacement ratio of silica fume and fly ash. A linear measurement technique which was introduced by the JCI autogenous commitee was used.

  • This study discusses the fundamental properties of high performance concrete and autogenous drying shrinkage with the kinds and the adding amount of superplasticizer. According to results, drying shrinkage hardly shows differences by the kinds of superplasticizer, and is reduced with an increase of the adding ratio. Autogenous shrinkage is reduced in order of HP>HN>HM, but does not make a big difference. As the adding amount of superplasticizer increases, autogenous shrinkage is reduced due to a decrease of cement content which influences on autogenous shrinkage seriously.

  • HPFRCC is characterized by a very low water-to-binder ratio which induce extremely large autogenous shrinkage at early age. The restriction of such autogenous shrinkage through the use of forms and reinforcing bars will increase substantially the risk of excessive residual stresses and shrinkage cracking. The exact understanding of the shrinkage behavior and studies on solutions to reduce shrinkage should be imperatively undertaken for further application of HPFRCC to real structures. Therefore, this paper investigated the mechanical properties of HPFRCC with respect to the eventual introduction of expansive admixture(EA) and shrinkage reducing agent (SRA) in the mixture. Autogenous shrinkage test was conducted considering the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) measured at early age so as to examine the effects of EA and SRA on the autogenous shrinkage behavior of HPFRCC.

  • Recently, it is noticed that autogenous shrinkage of high-performance concrete causes early crack in high performance concrete structures. The purpose of the present study is to derive a realistic equation to estimate the autogenous shrinkage of high performance concrete and to apply to structural analysis. For this purpose, several series of concrete specimens have been tested. When water-binder ratio is fixed to $30\%$, major test variables were the type and contents of mineral admixture. The autogenous shrinkage of HPC with fly ash slightly decreased than that of OPC concrete, but the use of blast furnace slag increased with the autogenous shrinkage. A prediction equation to estimate the autogenous shrinkage of HPC with mineral admixture was derived and proposed in this study. The proposed equation show reasonably good correlation with test data on autogenous shrinkage of HPC with mineral admixture. The finite element program developed in this study provides the useful tool for the flexural analysis including the autogenous shrinkage model. By this program, we know that the tensile stress considering the autogenous shrinkage of reinforced concrete structures increase $20\~27\%$ than that not considering.

  • Ultra high strength concrete, nowadays, has been widely applied to construction of high-rise building. To improve ductility and mechanical properties, steel fiber is employed in UHSC. This study investigates practical application of expansive additives(EA) and shrinkage reducing agent(SRA), in order to secure volumetric stability and improved mechanical properties, such as autogenous shrinkage and dry shrinkage of steel-fiber-reinforced-ultra-high-strength-comet-mortar(FHSM). According to the test, individual addition of steel fiber does not affect shrinkage reduction, as expected. However FHSM, with combined addition of 5$\%$ of EA and 1$\%$ of SRA decreased 60$\%$ of autogenous shrinkage. It is considered that Proper combination of EA and SRA can secure the shrinkage resistance of FHSM.

  • PURPOSES : This purpose of this study is to analyze the effect to autogenous shrinkage of the top-layer material of a two-lift concrete pavement mixing both silica fume and polymer powder. METHODS : The bottom-layer of a two-lift concrete pavement was paved with original portland cement (OPC) with a 20~23 cm thickness. Additionally, the top-layer which is directly exposed to the environment and vehicles was paved with a high-performance concrete (HPC) with a 7~10 cm thickness. These types of pavements can achieve a long service life by reducing joint damage and increasing the abrasion and scaling resistance. In order to integrate the different bottom and top layer materials, autogenous shrinkage tests were performed in this study according to the mixing ratio of silica fume and polymer powder, which are the admixture of the top-layer material. RESULTS : Autogenous shrinkage decreased when polymer powder was used in the mix. Contrary to this, autogenous shrinkage tended to rise with increasing silica fume content. However, the effects were not significant when small amounts of polymer powder were used (3% and 11%). CONCLUSIONS : The durability and compressive strength increase when silica fume is used in the mix. The flexural strength considerably increases and autogenous shrinkage of concrete decreases when polymer powder is used in the mix. As seen from above, the proper use of these materials improves not only durability, but also autogenous shrinkage, leading to better shrinkage crack control in the concrete.

  • The objective of this paper is to explore the possibility of reuse of waste vegetable oil (WO) as an autogenous shrinkage reducer for high strength concrete and to compare the amount of autogenous shrinkage of the mortar using existing shrinkage reducing agent(SR) and expansive additives(EA). According to test results, as the dosages of WO increased, flow value exhibited to decrease, while the use of SR increased flow value. For the effect of WO on strength, although the use of SR and WO resulted in a slight decrease in compressive strength at early age, at 91 days they had similar strength level of the plain mixture. For autogenous shrinkage, as expected, the addition of WO, SR and EA resulted in a decrease of autogeneous shrinkage considerably especially, WO had superiority in autogenous shrinkage reducing effect compared with the case of SR and EA.

  • The shrinkage mechanism of high strength concrete is different from that of normal concrete. The shrinkage of normal concrete is subjected to evaporate moisture in concrete, but most shrinkage in high strength concrete is caused by chemical reaction. To analyze shrinkage of concrete exactly, it is necessary to divide drying shrinkage with autogenous shrinkage in terms of degree of hydration, especially in concrete with low W/C ratio. The proposed method can provide a rational basis for prediction of shrinkage in high strength concrete structure.
