The effects of autoclave sterilization on the cyclic fatigue resistance of ProTaper Universal, ProTaper Next, and ProTaper Gold nickel-titanium instruments

  • Objectives: It was aimed to compare the cyclic fatigue resistances of ProTaper Universal (PTU), ProTaper Next (PTN), and ProTaper Gold (PTG) and the effects of sterilization by autoclave on the cyclic fatigue life of nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments. Materials and Methods: Eighty PTU, 80 PTN, and 80 PTG were included to the present study. Files were tested in a simulated canal. Each brand of the NiTi files were divided into 4 subgroups: group 1, as received condition; group 2, pre-sterilized instruments exposed to 10 times sterilization by autoclave; group 3, instruments tested were sterilized after being exposed to 25%, 50%, and 75% of the mean cycles to failure, then cycled fatigue test was performed; group 4, instruments exposed to the same experiment with group 3 without sterilization. The number of cycles to failure (NCF) was calculated. The data was statistically analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey tests. Results: PTG showed significantly higher NCF than PTU and PTN in group 1 (p < 0.05). Sterilization significantly increased the NCF of PTN and PTG (p < 0.05) in group 2. PTN in group 3 had significantly higher cyclic fatigue resistance than PTN group 4 (p < 0.05). Also, significantly higher NCF was observed for PTG in group 2 than in groups 3 and 4 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: PTG instrument made of new gold alloy was more resistant to fatigue failure than PTN and PTU. Autoclaving increased the cyclic fatigue resistances of PTN and PTG.

  • This report describes the procedure of detailed design and structural test for the composite flexure which is a part of the hingeless hub system. First, stacking sequence design for composite flexure was done, and structural analysis by using NASTRAN was made to verify structural stability and safety. Using FPS installed at KIMM, composite flexure was laid up and cured using a autoclave. Before rotor ground test, the basic structural tests such as a bench test, tensile strength test and shear strength test, for flexure, were accomplished. Through replacing existing metal hub part with new fabricated composite flexure, improvement of aeroelastic stability and weight reduction were achieved. This result will be applied to composite rotor system design fur helicopter.

히트블랑켓과 새롭게 개발된 가압장치를 이용해 수리한 복합재 적층판의 인장강도 연구 (Tensile Strength of Composite Laminate Repaired Using Heat-blanket and a Novel Pressurization System)

  • 히트블랑켓을 이용한 통상의 복합재 패치 수리의 경우, 진공백만을 이용하여 접착제에 압력을 가하게 된다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 진공백 위에 다시 공기압을 추가로 가할 수 있는 가압장치를 개발하였다. 개발된 가압장치의 성능을 검증하기 위해 탄소섬유 복합재 적층판을 스카프 패치로 수리하고 인장시험을 수행하여, 결함이 없는 온전한 구조물과의 강도를 비교하였다. 또한 비교를 위해 오토클레이브를 사용하여 패치를 접착한 동일한 형상의 시편에 대한 인장시험도 같이 수행하였다. 시험 결과 외부압력 없이 히트블랑켓과 진공만으로 수리한 시편, 개발된 가압장치로 1 기압을 추가로 가하여 수리한 시편, 그리고 오토클레이브에서 동일한 외부압력을 가하면서 수리한 시편의 인장강도 회복율은 각각 74.9, 81.0, 78.2%로 나타났다. 수분을 포화시킨 시편에 대한 인장강도 시험과 상온건조 인장 피로시험의 결과에서도, 개발된 가압장치를 이용해 1 기압 외부압력으로 제작한 시편은 오토클레이브로 제작한 시편과 동일한 수준 이상의 강도를 보이는 것을 확인하였다.

전부도재 수복을 위한 무색지르코니아 세라믹의 저온열화에 따른 굴곡강도 변화 (The flexural strength Changes by the Low Temperature Degradation of Uncolored zirconia Ceramic for All Ceramic Restoration)

  • In the orthopedic field which firstly used zirconia as artificial joints, researchers had studied the reasons for collapsing zirconia used as restorative material by accumulated inner cracks in several years and they found out Low Temperature Degradation is one of the reasons. In the dentistry field, it has not been too long since they used zirconia as the cores of all-ceramic restoration; however, the study is needed as prophylactic measure against Low Temperature Degradation which can be caused by saliva wetting the mouth all the time and frictional forces such as bite pressure and masticatory pressure. Artificial aging by autoclaving is used because there are difficulties of testing in the patient's mouth. To study the changes in the material properties, the flexural strength of dental zirconia ceramic is measured before and after the test. The following are the result of the test. 1) The zirconia blocks in the autoclaves at $130^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$ are phase-shifted tetragonal to monoclinic by Low Temperature Degradation. 2)The non-autoclaved specimens have the average fractural strength of 1346.4MPa, the specimens autoclaved at $130^{\circ}C$ have 1226.4Mpa and the specimens autoclaved at $200^{\circ}C$ have 1024.1MPa. The tests show that as the temperature increases, the flexural strength tend to decrease and the differences are noticeable(p<0.001). 3)Through the Duncan's post-hoc test, the differences in flexural strength of the 3 groups were listed in order of strength like normal temperature>at $130^{\circ}C$ autoclave low temperature degradation> at $200^{\circ}C$ autoclave low temperature degradation.

  • Low-cycle environmental fatigue tests of cast austenitic stainless steel CF8M at the condition of fatigue strain rate 0.04%/sec were conducted at the pressure and temperature, 15MPa, $315^{\circ}C$ of a operating pressurized water reactor. The used test rig was limited to install an extensometer at the gauge length of the cylindrical fatigue specimen inside the small autoclave. So the magnet type LVDT's were used to measure the fatigue displacement at the specimen shoulders inside the high temperature and high pressure water autoclave. However, the displacement and strain measured at the specimen shoulders is different from the one at the gauge length for the geometry and the cyclic strain hardening effect. FEM calculated the displacement and the strain of the gauge length from the data measured at the shoulders. Tensile test properties in elastic and plastic behavior of CF8M material were used in the FEM analysis. A series of low cycle fatigue tests simulating the cyclic strain hardening effect verified that the FEM calculation was well agreed with the simulated tests. The process and method developed in this study would be so useful to produce reliable environmental fatigue curves of CF8M stainless steel in pressurized water reactors.

Zircaloy-4 합금의 Nodule형 부식에 미치는 열처리 온도의 영향 (Effect of Annealing Temperature on the Nodular Corrosion of Zircaloy-4 Alloy)

  • The nodular corrosion behavior of Zircaloy-4 alloy was investigated by autoclave test at 50$0^{\circ}C$ under 1500 psi for the specimens quenched into water from $700^{\circ}C$, 80$0^{\circ}C$, 90$0^{\circ}C$, and 105$0^{\circ}C$. It was observed that the corrosion resistance of Zircalloy-4 specimen increased with increase in annealing temperature, and annealing at $\alpha$-region temperatures resulted in nodular corrosion while annealing at the temperature range of $\alpha$+$\beta$ and $\beta$ did not show nodular corrosion. It was also found that the size of nodule formed on the surface of the specimens increased with increase in exposure time in autoclave, but the total number of nodule remained uncha-nged. The corrosion of furnace-cooled specimens progressed mostly in the interior of grains where Fe and Cr alloying elements were largely depleted during the cooling process. However, the grain boundary seemed to act as a barrier to the nodular corrosion. From combining the present results with other works, it is suggested that the nodules nuc-leate in the local region where some of alloying elements are depleted.

오토클레이브 성형된 길이 23m 복합재 철도차량 차체의 구조적 특성평가 (Structural Safety Evaluation of An Autoclave Cured Train Carbody with Length of 23m)

  • This paper explains manufacturing process and experimental studies on a composite carbody of Korean tilting train. The composite carbody with length of 23m was manufactured as a sandwich structure composed of a 40mm-thick aluminium honeycomb core and 5mm-thick woven fabric carbon/epoxy face. In order to evaluate structural behavior and safety of the composite carbody, the static load tests such as vertical load, end compressive load, torsional load and 3-point support load tests have been conducted. These tests were performed under Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) 17105 standard. From the tests, maximum deflection was 12.3mm and equivalent bending stiffness of the carbody was 0.81$\times$10$^{14}$ kgf$\cdot$mm$^{2}$ Maximum stress of the composite body was lower than 12.2$\%$ of strength of the carbon/epoxy. Therefore, the composite body satisfied the Japanese Industrial Standard.

  • Environmental fatigue crack propagation of CF8M and CF8A steels used in the domestic PWR were investigated on the simulated PWR condition(Temperature: $316^{\circ}C$, Pressure: 15MPa). The test equipment for environmental fatigue(high temperature-high pressure loop, autoclave, load frame, measurement system) were designed. As-received and 60-year aged specimens were used in the test. To compare with environmental fatigue test, another test was performed in the air condition. The fracture surface of specimens were difficult to verify the fracture modes such as striation, intergranular crack and cleavage and so on. As the ferrite content of CF8M is increased, more particles covered fracture surface were peeled.

CaO/SiO2비 및 W/B 변화에 따른 오토클레이브 양생 경화체의 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Properties of Solid Material Made by Autoclave Curing according to CaO/SiO2 Ratio and W/B)

  • 이 연구는 수열합성반응을 통해 규사분을 사용한 무기질 다공성 규산칼슘 재료의 특성에 관한 것으로, 다양한 제조과정에 의해 발생하는 규산질 부산물을 사용한 소음 저감용 다공성 경화체 개발을 위한 기초적 자료로 사용하고자 하였다. 오토클레이브 양생 시편의 제조를 위해 다양한 칼슘질 재료를 사용하였고 규산질 재료는 규사분을 사용하였다. 이 연구에서, W/B와 C/S비에 따라 밀도와 강도 특성, 공극의 형태를 위한 현미경, 오토클레이브양생 후의 수화물 검사를 위해 주사전자현미경과 엑스선회절분석을 각각 수행하였다. 측정 결과로 굳지 않은 상태에서 W/B가 증가할 수록 슬러리 밀도는 점점 감소하고 이러한 경향은 굳은 상태에서도 유사하게 나타났다. 압축강도는 C/S비 0.85 시편이 가장 높게 나타났다. 토버모라이트는 C/S비와는 상관없이 모든 시편에서 생성되었다. 공극구조를 확인하기 위해, 기존에 사용되고 있는 다공질 규산칼슘 제품(ALC, 무기질 흡음재)을 비교했다. 관찰 결과, 기존의 무기질 흡음형 다공성 경화체 기공과 유사한 형상을 보였다. 따라서 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 소음저감형 다공성 경화체의 개발 가능성을 확인 할 수 있었다.

AE-SOM을 이용한 EVA 생산 공정 이상 검출 및 진단 (Fault Detection and Diagnosis for EVA Production Processes Using AE-SOM)

  • 본 연구에서는 auto-encoder와 self-organizing map을 결합한 auto-encoder with self-organizing map(AE-SOM) 기법을 이용하여 EVA 생산공정의 이상을 검출 및 진단하였고, Granger의 인과분석을 통해 이상 검출 데이터의 이상 전파 방향을 확인하였다. 분석 데이터는 1년 7개월 간의 조업데이터를 이용하였으며, autoclave 반응기의 조업 변수를 주로 분석하였다. 데이터 전처리 과정에서 데이터의 표준화를 먼저 진행하고, 조업의 각 grade의 sample 수를 동일하게 200개 임의로 추출하였다. 이후 AE-SOM을 적용하여 각 grade의 best matching unit (BMU)를 도출하였다. 각각의 BMU를 기준으로 조업 데이터가 얼마나 벗어났는지를 기준으로 데이터의 이상을 판별하였다. 공정 이상이 발견될 시 이상원인을 contribution plot을 이용하여 확인하였고 이상원인 변수의 인과성을 Granger의 인과분석을 통해 분석하였다. 그 결과 조업 시 발생한 2번의 셧다운의 전조를 모두 검출하였으며 이상이 발생한 원인변수에서 기인한 공정 이상의 전파 방향을 분석하였다.
