  • The lattice originated from logic, not mathematics. Around 1880, Peirce thought that all the lattices were distributives, however $Schr{\"{o}}der$ corrected the error around 1890. In 1993, Birkhoff used the term lattice for the first time that had a different meaning from today's lattice. This paper introduces Peirce, and studies correlation among atomic lattices, atomistic lattices, J-lattices, strong lattices and distributive lattices.

  • In this study, we studied the gamma-radiation effect of fiber Bragg gratings on the fiber re-coating methods. The fiber Bragg gratings were exposed to gamma-radiation up to a dose of 100 kGy at the dose rate of 104 Gy/min. In our experimental results, we confirmed that the fiber acrylate re-coating process leads to a slightly lower radiation sensitivity of FBGs.

  • In this study, we studied the effect of $Co^{60}$ gamma-radiation on the fiber Bragg gratings written by femtosecond UV laser in single mode optical fibers. The fiber Bragg gratings were exposed to gamma-radiation up to a dose of about 31.6 kGy at the dose rate of 106 Gy/min. According to the experimental data and analysis results, we confirmed Bragg gratings written by femtosecond laser have the excellent radiation-hardened characteristics for high radiation environments.

  • In this study, we studied the gamma-radiation effect of fiber Bragg gratings on the high temperature annealing condition. The fiber Bragg gratings were exposed to gamma-radiation up to a dose of 30.8 kGy at the dose rate of 115 Gy/min. According to the experimental data and analysis results, the gratings that were stabilized at different temperatures have clearly shown that exposure to higher temperatures increases their radiation sensitivity.

  • The friction factor in a rod bundle and the loss coefficient at a spacer grid were examined. As a test section, 25 smooth rods, 9.5 mm in diameter and 2000 mm in length, were prepared and installed in a $5{\times}5$ square array in a square channel. In this case, the P/D (Pitch-to-Diameter ratio) was 1.35. In this work, plain (i.e., no mixing vanes), split-vane, and hybrid-vane spacer grids were tested. In a bare rod bundle (i.e., no spacer grid), the measured friction factors were in good agreement with the previous correlations. Among the spacer grids tested, the hybrid-vane spacer grid presented the largest friction factor in the rod bundle and loss coefficient. This may be because of the flow pattern change induced by large relative plugging of the flow cross section and mixing vane geometry. At Re=$5{\times}10^5$, the predicted loss coefficients of plain, splitvane, and hybrid-vane spacer grids were approximately 0.79, 0.80, and 0.88, respectively.

  • In this study, we studied the effect of $Co^{60}$ gamma-radiation on the FBGs written in photo-sensitive and commercial Ge-doped single-mode optical fibers. The FBGs were exposed to gamma-radiation up to a dose of 17.8 kGy at the dose rate of 300 Gy/min. According to the experimental data and analysis results, the lowest Bragg wavelength shift (18 pm) was obtained by a grating written in photosensitive fiber without $H_2$-loading.

  • This paper investigates the influence of hydrogen loading process on the radiation sensitivity of fiber Bragg gratings (FBG). We made the FBG inscribed in the same commercial Ge-doped fiber with different hydrogen loading periods. We measured the Bragg wavelength shift (BWS) of the FBG exposed to gamma-radiation up to a dose of 18 kGy, and evaluated the change of full width at half maximum (FWHM) and the FBG temperature sensitivity coefficient after irradiation. Varying hydrogen loading parameter led to BWS differences up to nearly a factor of two.

  • A component-scale two-phase analysis code has been developed for a realistic simulation of two-phase flow transients in a light water nuclear reactor component. In the code, a two-fluid three-field model is adopted and the governing equations are solved on an unstructured mesh. For the numerical solution scheme, the semi-implicit method used in the RELAP5 code was selected, which has been proved to be very stable and accurate for most of practical applications. However, some modifications were needed for its application to an unstructured non-staggered grid. This paper presents the modified semi-implicit numerical method for unstructured grid and the preliminary results of the calculations.

  • Nuclear physics parameters of the Wolsung CANDU-PHW reactor are computed by use of the PHWCELL computer code that is an improved version of LATREP. The PHWCELL code mainly computes cell parameters of heavy water moderated reactors, and modeling scheme of heavy water reactor cell calculations has been developed with the PHWCELL computer code. The reactor operating conditions considered in the study are cold zero power (CZP) and hot full power (HFP) with equilibrium poison. The cell parameters are also computed as a function of fuel burnup and the numerical results are compared with the results in PSR of the Wolsung unit and in the previous study.

  • We studied the effect of $Co^{60}$ gamma-radiation on the fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) by irradiation time of UV Krypton fluoride (KrF) excimer laser among grating processing parameters. The FBGs were fabricated in a different UV laser irradiation time at 30, 60, 90, and 120 seconds using the same commercial Ge-doped silica core fiber (SMF-28e). It was exposed to gamma-radiation up to a high dose of 34.3 kGy at the dose rate of 106 Gy/min, and then it was analyzed radiation effects by measuring the radiation-induced change in the temperature sensitivity coefficient and Bragg wavelength shift. According to the experimental results, We confirmed that the UV laser irradiation period for grating inscription has a highly effect on the radiation sensitivity of the FBGs. The radiation-induced Bragg wavelength shift by the change of laser irradiation conditions showed a difference more than about 50 %.
