The assembly of the modular housing is an important phase in the construction of pre-fabricated houses. However, the assembly tools that are commonly used in a work site have a disadvantage of decreasing the productivity and the quality. We have developed a exclusive tool for assembling modular parts. The structural stability of the developed tool has been verified in the previous studies. However, the experimental analysis was not conducted. This study analyzed the effect of improving the productivity and quality of the developed assembly tool. The result of the experimental analysis shows improvements in productivity and quality compared to the conventional assembly tool.

The automobile industry is representative industry of complex characteristics, which employing 10 million people, the largest manufacturing industry over $1 trillion in sales and assembling with 20,000 parts to make complete automobile and automobile assembly processes have a lower automation rate than other processes, which is labor intensive processes of assembling to painted body with 3,000 components such as seats, built-in, instrument panel, glass, engine, transmission units. However, the current assembly process does not have real-time monitoring. If a tool position tracking system is adapted to assembly process for directing consistent work order and checking for missing work, the productivity and quality improvement of the assembly process can be achieved by preemptively preventing possible defects in the assembly process. So, this paper aims to develop a Tool Position tracking system using UWB(Ultra Wide Band) with trilateration and proves their effectiveness for real-time monitoring of automotive assembly process.
Component-Based Development(CBD) leverages software reusability and diminishes development costs. Various works about component models, such as EJB, COM, and CCM are in progress to support CBD. However, current component models hardly support flexible assembly of pre-built components. To cope with this problem, architecture for component assembly must be defined in the abstract level and the gap between system architecture and its implementation should be diminished in the implementation level. This paper proposes a method for architecture-based design and implementation of component assembly. Architecture is described by the ADL, and the tool, COBALT Assembler, is introduced to support the proposed design and implementation phase of component assembly.
Component-based development leverages software reusability and reduces development costs. Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) is a component model developed to reduce the complexity of software development and to facilitate reuse of components. However, EJB does not support component assembly by a plug-and-play technique due to the hard-wired composition at the code level. To cope with this problem, an architecture for EJB component assembly is defined at the abstract level and the inconsistency between the system architecture and its implementation must be eliminated at the implementation level. We propose a component-based application development tool named the COBALT assembler that supports the design and implementation of EJB component assembly by a plug-and-play technique based on the architecture style. The system architecture is first defined by the Architecture Description Language (ADL). The wrapper code and glue code are then generated for the assembly. After the consistency between the architecture and its implementation is checked, the assembled EJB components are deployed in an application server as a new composite component. We use the COBALT assembler for a shopping mall system and demonstrate that it can promote component reuse and leverage the system maintainability.

In this study, calibration procedure of power assembly tools is suggested and methods are developed for calculating measurement uncertainty. Fist of all, the calibration of joint simulator bench (JSB) was carried out for maintaining traceability and the uncertainty components of JSB were analyzed. The influences of tool speed, tolerance, temperature and length of the adapter were examined by the torque measurement values through experiments. From this research, credibility for calibration results could be enhanced. This experimental results, being used as an effective tool for calibration of power assembly tools, will provide and improve the accuracy of the use of the power assembly tools.
In the field of assembly processes, non-rigid parts such as wires, tubes, gaskets and 0-rings cannot be assembled automatically. And although many researches have been made for rigid part mating, there are not substantial studies in flexible parts assembly field. In this paper, assembly stages of flexible parts are classified and some analysis are made. FEM was used to estimate the relationship between deformation and reactive forces. An assembly algorithm adopting reciprocal twisting motion was proposed and the assembly tool design methodology was discussed.

Many industrial products can be assembled in various sequences of assembly operations. To save time and cost in assembly process and to increase the quality of products, it is very important to choose an optimal assembly sequence. In this paper, we propose a methodology that generates an optimal assembly sequence by using the knowledge of experts. First, a product is divided into several sub-assemblies. Next, the disassembly sequences of sub-assembly are generated using disassembly rules and special information can be extracted through the disassembly process. By combining every assembly sequence of sub-assemblies, we can generate all the possible assembly sequences of a product. Finally, the expert system evaluates all the possible assembly sequences and finds an optimal assembly sequence. It can be achieved under consideration of the parameters such as assembly operation, tool change, safety of part. basepart location, setup change, distance, and orientation. The developed system is applied to UBR(Unit Bath Room) example.
Finishing is the most time-consuming step in sequencing, and many genome projects are left unfinished due to complex repeat regions. Here, we have developed BACContigEditor, a prototype shotgun sequence finishing tool. It is essentially an editor that visualizes assemblies of shotgun sequence fragment reads as gapped multiple alignments. The program offers some flexibility that is needed to rapidly resolve complex regions within a working session. The sole purpose of the release is to promote collaborative creation of extensible software for fragment assembly editors, foster collaborative development, and reduce barriers to initial tool development effort. We describe our software architecture and identify current challenges. The program is available under an Open Source license.
Verification of tool collision is an important issue in die and mold machining. In this paper three functions of verification are schematically explained based on Z-Map model. The first function is getting a collision-free region when a tool assembly and a part surface model are given. The second function estimates the shortest length of cutter shank with that the tool cuts all of a region without collision. The last one is cutting simulation considering all parts of tool assembly as well as cutter blade. Those functions can be easily implemented by using several basic operators of Z-Map model which are explained also. Proposed approaches have enough accuracy to verify collision in reasonable computing time.

Verification of tool collision Is an important issue in die and mold machining. In this paper three functions of verification for 3-axis milling machining are schematically explained. Operators of geometric models are explained at first, which will be used in the functions of verification. The first verification function is getting a collision-free region when a tool assembly and a part surface model are given. The second function estimates the shortest length of cutter shank with that the tool cuts all of a region without collision The last one is cutting simulation considering all parts of tool assembly as well as cutter blade. Proposed approaches can be easily implemented by using several basic operators of geometric model. An example to calculate collision-free region is presented also.
