Application on Concrete using Artificial Aggregate with Paper Sludge Ash (제지 슬러지 소각회 인공골재의 콘크리트에의 적용)

  • This study is described the experimental result of the development of artificial aggregate using paper sludge ash and the application of it in concrete. Artificial aggregates are prepared with crushed stone in the variety aspect. Therefore, Quality properties of artificial aggregate using paper sludge ash are fairly corresponded with it of crushed stone. For the application of artificial aggregate using paper sludge ash in concrete, Coarse aggregates are replaced with artificial aggregate using paper sludge ash in the constant of volume(0%, 30%, 70%, 100%). It is conclued from the test results that the artificial aggregate using paper sludge ash could be used replacement of coarse aggregate in concrete. Continuous study should be planned for improvement of it's quality.

  • With the 4-MJ synthetic testing facilities completed, KERI can perform the circuit breaker testing up to 420 kV, 50 kA ratings. The short-line fault test is one of the necessary test items which are required for the circuit breaker, and in order to perform the short-line fault test KERI(Korea Electrotechnology Institute) has used the "new artificial line" which has small dimension and is easy to generate the saw-tooth wave. This paper describes the following items of the new artificial line. -Description of 4-kinds of artificial lines and determination of the circuit parameter of artificial line. -TRV characteristics of saw-tooth waves for each circuit. -KERI's artificial line.

  • The study of Artificial Life Art has affected the development of art using artificial life. Artificial Life Art started as a concern for microscopic organisms and has developed into works producing some creativities through the choices of spectators. The interests in real animals have resulted in the production of artificial animals such as cyber pets, and the interests in humans have been led to the creation of avatars. We will analyze the invisible emotional field of Naoko Tosa's works which use cyber pets and avatars, and clarify how the creative changes of Artificial Life Art affect the development of interactive art.

  • In this paper, consolidation settlements with time at vertical drain sites were predicted by artificial neural networks. Laboratory test results and field measurements of two vertical drain sites were used for training and testing neural networks. Predicted consolidation settlements by trained artificial neural networks were compared with measured settlements by field instrumentation. To improve the prediction accuracy, modular artificial neural networks were studied. From the results of applying artificial neural networks to the same situation, it was shown that modular artificial neural network model was more accurate for the prediction of the consolidation settlements than the general model.

Effects of Artificial Filaments Equipped in the Aeration Tank of Aerobic Fermentation System on the Removal Efficiency of Nitrogen of Swine Wastewater Containing High Nitrogen (담체설치가 고질소함유 양돈폐수의 호기발효에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of artificial filaments equipped in the aeration tank of aerobic·fermentation system on the removal efficiency of swine wastes which were fermented an aerobically and thus containing high nitrogen. Two aerobic fermentation system each consist4s of 4 tanks ; storage tank, 1st and 2nd aeration tank and settling tank were run before and one or three weeks after equipment of artificial filament in the aeration tanks. Total solids concentration tended to increase by aerobic fermentation in all running periods. However, decreased(P<0.05) total nitrogen concentration was shown three weeks after the equipment of artificial filament. Ammonia nitrogen concentration also largely decreased(p<0.05) in both running periods of one and three weeks after equipment of artificial filaments. These results suggest that the artificial filaments may improve the removal efficiency of nitrogen in swine wastewater containing high nitrogen during aerobic fermentation.

  • The wetland is a biologically integrated system consisting of water, soil, bacteria, plants, and animals. The wetland helps sustain the ecosystem, control the micro-climate and flood, maintain the ground water level, and provide fishing grounds. From the environmental standpoint, the wetland plays a vital role in reducing water pollution by filtering out sand and other polluted matters, producing oxygen, absorbing chemicals and nutrients. For these reasons, interest in restoring the wetlands has been steadily increasing. Artificial wetland, which is also referred to as created wetland or constructed wetland, is an alternative to natural wetland. Like natural wetland, artificial wetland is environmentally friendly and can effectively lower pollutant levels. The Korea government is actively reviewing the construction of artificial wetlands in mining and water supply areas to decrease nonpoint pollutant sources. This paper attempts to develop a pollutant removal model for the water quality improvement function of artificial wetlands. Artificial wetland can improve the quality of the water; however, depending on the type of water inflow, vegetation and hydrology, its effect can be different.

Synthesis of $\alpha$-L-Aspartyl-L-phenylalanine Methyl Ester from an Artificial Polypeptide

  • The aspartame, $\alpha$-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methylester, is an artificial sweetener. Taking advantage of the fact that the aspartame is a derivative of dipeptide, synthesis of aspartame from the artificial polypeptide made by an artificial gene has been attempted. The artificial polypeptide (LAP32), a polymer of tripeptide (aspartyl-phenylalanyl-lysine), was purified from the E. coli cells harboring a recombinant plasmid containing the artificial gene. This polypeptide was then digested with trypsin and carboxypeptidase B to produce dipeptide (Asp-Phe). Using the esterase activity of $\alpha$-chymotrypsin, the dipeptide was directly converted into Asp-Phe methylester in a water-methanol system. When the methanol concentration in reaction mixture was 25%, 50% of dipeptide was converted to the dipeptide methylester without producing any by-products.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the relationship between artificial intelligence ethical awareness, bioethics awareness, and person-centered care of general hospital nurses. Methods: The participants were 192 nurses. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, and Pearson's correlation coefficient with the SPSS program. Results: The average points for artificial intelligence ethical awareness, bioethics awareness, and person-centered care were 2.93, 2.77, and 3.50, respectively. Artificial intelligence ethical awareness and bioethics awareness had statistically significant negative relationships. Artificial intelligence ethical awareness, bioethics awareness, and person-centered care were not significantly correlated. Conclusion: Education, training, and organizational support are needed to improve artificial intelligence ethics awareness, bioethics awareness, and person-centered care for general hospital nurses.

  • Recently, artificial intelligence has been in the spotlight across various fields. Artificial intelligence uses massive amounts of data to train machine learning models and performs various tasks using the trained models. For model training, large, high-quality data sets are essential, and database systems have provided such data. Driven by advances in artificial intelligence, attempts are being made to improve various components of database systems using artificial intelligence. Replacing traditional complex algorithm-based database components with their artificial-intelligence-based counterparts can lead to substantial savings of resources and computation time, thereby improving the system performance and efficiency. We analyze trends in the application of artificial intelligence to database systems.
