  • In contrast to many of the malignant tumors that occur in the central nervous system in adults, the management, responses to therapy, and future perspectives of children with malignant lesions of the brain hold considerable promise. Within the past 5 years, remarkable progress has been made with our understanding of the basic biology of the molecular genetics of several pediatric malignant brain tumors including medulloblastoma, ependymoma, atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumour, and high grade glioma/diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. The recent literature in pediatric neuro-oncology was reviewed, and a summary of the major findings are presented. Meaningful sub-classifications of these tumors have arisen, placing children into discrete categories of disease with requirements for targeted therapy. While the mainstay of therapy these past 30 years has been a combination of central nervous system irradiation and conventional chemotherapy, now with the advent of high resolution genetic mapping, targeted therapies have emerged, and less emphasis is being placed on craniospinal irradiation. In this article, the present and future perspective of pediatric brain malignancy are reviewed in detail. The progress that has been made offers significant hope for the future for patients with these tumours.

  • To effectively develop and evaluate air pollution control measures, health risk rates due to air pollution must be identified. This article describes the application of a visual analysis and an air pollution-health risk model for determining the impacts of carbon monoxide (CO) exposure on angina pectoris patients in a metropolitan area. The procedures used for analyzing the relationship between CO exposure and the related increase in angina angina attacks for stable angina pectoris patients are described through a case study in the city of Seoul, Korea and the findings show that air-pollution-health risk model and visual analysis can be effective tools for environmental decision-makers, allowing air pollution control scenarios to be developed and evaluated for environmental protection. One of the features of this study is to provide a methodology for translating clinical findings into estimates of the relative contributions of air pollution to all causes of a particular disease. Therefore, there must be appropriate recognition of the uncertainties involved in the study.

  • Neurilemmomas are benign nerve sheath tumors arising from peripheral Schwann cells. The tumor composed of Schwann cells and collagen fibers, can occur in any region of the body where there is a nerve that has a Schwann sheath. The incidence of the tumor in the head and neck is about 30% with many of these occurring on the vagus nerve. Neurilemmoma is characterized by solitary occurrence, with sharp demarcation and encapsulation. Multiple genesis is very rare. This article presents a rare case of multiple neurilemmomas located bilaterally in the cervical region.

  • Korean life insurance medical association's public periodical, the Journal of Korean Life Insurance Medical association (J Kor Lif Ins Med Assoc, JKLIMA) is now published $27^{th}$ issue. From this issue there are some changes of the journal than before. It is because general requirements for medical journals from the Korean association of medical journals editors. It can be remedy for the development of JKLIMA, in terms of academicism. First, the style of the manuscripts, medical opinion of insurance administration is added. This style of manuscript needs not keep the format of original research article such as background, materials, results, and discussion. Secondly, It is emphasized that submitted manuscripts must be reviewed by peer reviewers. Thirdly, we will make an effort to globalization of our journal. Lastly the publication period has been changed from annual to biannual. The publication date will be at March 31st and September 30th every year.

  • Neuron-on-a-Chip technology is based on advanced neuronal culture technique, surface micropatterning, microelectrode array technology, and multi-dimensional data analysis techniques. The combination of these techniques allowed us to design and analyze live biological neural networks in vitro using real neurons. In this review article, two underlying technologies are reviewed: Microelectrode array technology and Neuronal patterning technology. There are new opportunities in the fusion of these technologies to apply them in neurobiology, neuroscience, neural prostheses, and cell-based biosensor areas.

  • Recently, robot research and development was interesting the inside and outside of the country. Medical robot surgery showed diverse advantages according to advanced technical robot research. Also the academic society, research institute and industry showed concerning to the medical robot system. There is a growing need to introduce medical research for aging society. The surgical landscape is quickly changing because of the major driving force of robotics. Robot system and biomedical engineering research as defined a new engine of development show present ways of future revitalization of medical robot system. Medical robot system will be even more utilized when we keeps trying to combine high biomedical technique, IT research, and robot technique. In this review article, we begin with a short historical review of medical robotics, followed by an overview of clinical applications where robots have been applied.

  • Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is useful instrument for determining abundance of rare earth elements, due to very low detection limits and rapid data acquisition. In this article, two methods are used for decomposition of alkaline rocks; close vessel acid digestion and $Na_2Co_3$ fusion. The two analytical results show good agreements. Considering total dissolved solids and detection limits, the most adequate dilution factor is 5,000 times. Polyatomic ion interferences during analysis can give rise to Inaccuracies. After correction from oxide and hydroxide interference, the analytical result show 20-30% decrease for Gd and Tm, 10-20% decrease for Tb and Er. In comparing the analytical results from KORDI with other institutes, most rare earth elements abundance show good agreements except Lu.

  • There are a great numbers of disabled individuals who cannot freely move or control specific parts of their body because of serious neurological diseases such as spinal cord injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, brainstem stroke, and so on. Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) can help them to drive and control external devices using only their brain activity, without the need for physical body movements. Over the past 30 years, several Bel research programs have arisen and tried to develop new communication and control technology for those who are completely paralyzed. Thanks to the rapid development of computer science and neuroimaging technology, new understandings of brain functions, and most importantly many researchers' efforts, Bel is now becoming 'practical' to some extent. The present review article summarizes the current state of electroencephalogram (EEG)-based Bel, which have been being studied most widely, with specific emphasis on its basic concepts, system developments, and prospects for the future.

  • The forth edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (1994) provides documentation advice for writers in the social sciences. This style of citation briefly identifies the source for readers and enables them to locate the source of information in the alphabetical reference list at the end of an article. Although the APA publication manual gives recommendations for citing some kinds of electronic resources, it acknowledges that at the time of writing this edition, a standard had not yet emerged for referencing on-line information. Because the manual was published before the development of the Internet as we know it, it does not have guidelines for citing www sites, web discussion forum posting, and other Internet resources,. Therefore this study aims to extend the principles and conventions of APA citation style to electronic resources.

  • Librarians, who work for University libraries in Korea experience a lot of confusion and difficulties because of rapidly-changing technological conditions and under-developed understanding of the University Libraries' full potential on the part of the users. I present the concept of 'Subject Services' as an approach which librarians could use to overcome these difficulties in their own way. The 'Subject Services' refers to the 'subjectized' collection development and reference services, which can more specifically address the users' needs. To make this idea more concrete, I selected Pusan National University Library as the case of my qualitative research. And I made use of various research techniques such as 'participant observation' and 'ethnographic interview'. After looking into the case library in depth, I found that the concept of 'Subject Specialist'. a person who has double master's degrees including that of library and information science, is more suitable to the University Libraries in Korea at the present developmental stage. At the end of this article, propose that the development of Core Collections, the improvement of subject-oriented reference services and the continuing education of librarians should be emphasized.
