Occupational Health and Safety in the Turkish Fisheries and Aquaculture; a Statistical Evaluation on a Neglected Industry

  • Background: Fisheries and aquaculture are statistically acknowledged to be among the most dangerous occupations. Yet, industrial safety and health precautions against occupational accidents within the sector are not sufficiently implemented in many parts of the world. The present study aims to provide a quantified overview of work accident statistics in the Turkish fisheries and aquaculture industry. Methods: This article presents an overview of reported injuries and fatalities in the Turkish fisheries and aquaculture industries from 2006 to 2020. Incident, permanent incapacity, and fatality rates were calculated, and the difference between fisheries and aquaculture was statistically examined. Results: The overall incident, permanent incapacity, and fatality rates were 449.4, 4.7, and 5.7 per 100,000 worker years, respectively, over the 15-year period. With these fatality rates, fisheries and aquaculture are two of the industries with the highest fatality rates among comparable industries in Turkey. Incident rates in fisheries and aquaculture indicated that aquaculture work is more dangerous and risky. The data set includes 25 fatalities and 22 permanent incapacity cases over 15 years and shows an increase in fatality rates and occupational accidents in the last 8 years. Conclusion: present study showed that the quality of data and reporting in the Turkish fisheries and aquaculture industries including occupational illnesses, must be improved in order to be more preventative and to develop efficient safety management in the sector. Incentives for providing thorough data on occupational incidents must be enhanced to improve occupational safety awareness in Turkish fisheries and aquaculture.

  • The main purpose of the article is to study the peculiarities of the work of the Ukrainian language in the upper grades of the lyceum based on the activity approach. Despite the fact that a number of scientific studies and applied developments on teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language have recently appeared in Ukrainian linguistics, significant problems in this area should be recognized (organization of the educational process when learning a language as a foreign language, general methodological principles, psycho- and sociolinguistic foundations, communicative approaches), the non-resolution of which leads to methodologically unreasonable teaching of the Ukrainian language as a foreign language, the use of methods of teaching the language as a native language or the study of the language as a subject (linguistic aspect). In addition, due attention is not paid to the development of communication skills, which, firstly, worsens the quality of teaching and learning. Based on the results of the analysis, the key aspects of the work on the Ukrainian language in the senior classes of the lyceum were analyzed on the basis of an activity approach.

Vibration of bio-inspired laminated composite beams under varying axial loads

  • In this article, a mathematical model is developed to predict the dynamic behavior of bio-inspired composite beam with helicoidal orientation scheme under variable axial load using a unified higher order shear deformation beam theory. The geometrical kinematic relations of displacements are portrayed with higher parabolic shear deformation beam theory. Constitutive equation of composite beam is proposed based on plane stress problem. The variable axial load is distributed through the axial direction by constant, linear, and parabolic functions. The equations of motion and associated boundary conditions are derived in detail by Hamilton's principle. Using the differential quadrature method (DQM), the governing equations, which are integro-differential equations are discretized in spatial direction, then they are transformed into linear eigenvalue problems. The proposed model is verified with previous works available in literatures. Parametric analyses are developed to present the influence of axial load type, orthotropic ratio, slenderness ratio, lamination scheme, and boundary conditions on the natural frequencies of composite beam structures. The present enhanced model can be used especially in designing spacecrafts, naval, automotive, helicopter, the wind turbine, musical instruments, and civil structures subjected to the variable axial loads.

A Systematic Review of Predictive Maintenance and Production Scheduling Methodologies with PRISMA Approach

  • Predictive maintenance has been considered fundamental in the industrial applications in the last few years. It contributes to improve reliability, availability, and maintainability of the systems and to avoid breakdowns. These breakdowns could potentially lead to system shutdowns and to decrease the production efficiency of the manufacturing plants. The present article aims to study how predictive maintenance could be planed into the production scheduling, through a systematic review of literature. . The review includes the research articles published in international journals indexed in the Scopus database. 165 research articles were included in the search using #predictive maintenance# AND #production scheduling#. Press articles, conference and non-English papers are not considered in this study. After careful evaluation of each study for its purpose and scope, 50 research articles are selected for this review by following the 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA) statement. A benchmarking of predictive maintenance methods was used to understand the parameters that contributed to improve the production scheduling. The results of the comparative analysis highlight that artificial intelligence is a promising tool to anticipate breakdowns. An additional impression of this study is that each equipment has its own parameters that have to be collected, monitored and analyzed.

  • Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) has emerged as a pivotal tool for diagnosing and risk-stratifying patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD). Recent advancements in image analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques have enabled the comprehensive quantitative analysis of coronary atherosclerosis. Fully quantitative assessments of coronary stenosis and lumen attenuation have improved the accuracy of assessing stenosis severity and predicting hemodynamically significant lesions. In addition to stenosis evaluation, quantitative plaque analysis plays a crucial role in predicting and monitoring CAD progression. Studies have demonstrated that the quantitative assessment of plaque subtypes based on CT attenuation provides a nuanced understanding of plaque characteristics and their association with cardiovascular events. Quantitative analysis of serial CCTA scans offers a unique perspective on the impact of medical therapies on plaque modification. However, challenges such as time-intensive analyses and variability in software platforms still need to be addressed for broader clinical implementation. The paradigm of CCTA has shifted towards comprehensive quantitative plaque analysis facilitated by technological advancements. As these methods continue to evolve, their integration into routine clinical practice has the potential to enhance risk assessment and guide individualized patient management. This article reviews the evolving landscape of quantitative plaque analysis in CCTA and explores its applications and limitations.

Fascicular Involvement of the Median Nerve Trunk in the Upper Arm: Manifestation as Anterior Interosseous Nerve Syndrome With Unique Imaging Features

  • Selective fascicular involvement of the median nerve trunk above the elbow leading to anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) syndrome is a rare form of peripheral neuropathy. This condition has recently garnered increased attention within the medical community owing to advancements in imaging techniques and a growing number of reported cases. In this article, we explore the topographical anatomy of the median nerve trunk and the clinical features associated with AIN palsy. Our focus extends to unique manifestations captured through MRI and ultrasonography (US) studies, highlighting noteworthy findings, such as nerve fascicle swelling, incomplete constrictions, hourglass-like constrictions, and torsions, particularly in the posterior/posteromedial region of the median nerve. Surgical observations have further enhanced the understanding of this complex neuropathic condition. High-resolution MRI not only reveals denervation changes in the AIN and median nerve territories but also illuminates these alterations without the presence of compressing structures. The pivotal roles of high-resolution MRI and US in diagnosing this condition and guiding the formulation of an optimal treatment strategy are emphasized.

  • Hyperpolarized (HP) carbon-13 (13C) MRI represents an innovative approach for noninvasive, real-time assessment of dynamic metabolic flux, with potential integration into routine clinical MRI. The use of [1-13C]pyruvate as a probe and its conversion to [1-13C]lactate constitute an extensively explored metabolic pathway. This review comprehensively outlines the establishment of HP 13C-MRI, covering multidisciplinary team collaboration, hardware prerequisites, probe preparation, hyperpolarization techniques, imaging acquisition, and data analysis. This article discusses the clinical applications of HP 13C-MRI across various anatomical domains, including the brain, heart, skeletal muscle, breast, liver, kidney, pancreas, and prostate. Each section highlights the specific applications and findings pertinent to these regions, emphasizing the potential versatility of HP 13C-MRI in diverse clinical contexts. This review serves as a comprehensive update, bridging technical aspects with clinical applications and offering insights into the ongoing advancements in HP 13C-MRI.

Assessing the impact of nanoclay on the permeability and geotechnical properties of fine-grained soils in landfill liners

  • Presented Article evaluates the effect of nanoclay on permeability, compressive strength, and plasticity behavior of fine-grained soil related to the Tabriz landfill site. In this regard, comprehensive experimental study was performed on taken soil samples (42 specimens) with aim of design high-performance liners for Tabriz landfill. The samples was mixed by 0% (control) 3%, 6% and 9% nanoclay and prepared in 1, 7, 14 and 28 days before testing stage. Index tests like particle-size, permeability, atterberg limits, and uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) was conducted on samples. The results show that studied soil is classified as CL in USCS classification and atterberg limits measured as LL is 37, PL is 20.67, and PI is 16.33 which increase into 75, 45, and 30. The assessment presented the LL was increased about 20.27% based on increasing in nanoclay from 0% to 9%. These variations for PL and PI were 21.77% and 18.37%, respectively. Also, the and soil's compressive strength is increase from 120 kPa to 188 kPa and permeability is estimated as 4.25×10-6 m/s which reduced into the 6.34×10-9 m/s with respect the naboclay content increases form 0% to 9%.

  • This article is an attempt to explain, at least in part, the contemporary Korean women's consciousness of Western Dreasses. As time changes, the role of clothing undergoes varisous transitions, while values and ways of life are constantly in change. It is, therefore, proper and appropriate to recognize as among the major aspects of social psychology such phenomenon as interests, understanding of clothing, the choice of a dress, and attitudes toward clothing, etc. The purpose of this study is to discover problems concerning and their clothing and their solutions, by means of a surveying approach. The method of research used is based upon questionares distributed to parents of first-year pupils in elementary schools and to female clerks working in offices, covering the period from August through October, 1976. The number of the questionares distrubuted totalled 600, and 526 were returned to the research to be utilized for analysis. The contents of the survey included such things as values concerning clothing, kinds of clothing and their practical use, the selection of clothing and the method of purchase, fashions, etc. The classification of aquisition are self-made clothing, clothing made to order and ready-made materials. It is composed of 25 items, including affirmative reasons as well as negative ones. The processing of the material returned was made by using the computer, and based upon classifications such as ages, monthly income, occupations; thus diagraming the result in percentages. The conclusion made and the improvements proposed are as follows: 1. The values of clothing were placed on the expression of the wearer's personality (32.7) and on eauty(28. 6%). The lower age group places is stress upon the expression of personality, while the higher age group stresses beauty. About 50% of wearers are contented with their clothing, their clothing, the rest of whom them indicating their dissatisfaction with what they wear. As to designs at the time of selection, about 46% indicated their preference of personal expression, 31.8% on usefulness. In selecting material, practicality is emphasized; in selecting patterns, single color is preferred. In short, personal expression and esthetic values are primary, with consideration of practicality in mind. 2. The classification of clothing according to their uses indicates the highest numbers in normal wear (home wears) and clothings to be worn outside home. As to evening dresses, (party dress) only one or two articles were checked by many, and no such article was clamed to be possessed by most. The highest ratio of wearing was shown in the case of home wear (47.3%) and clothing to be worn outside the home, which is 55.8%. The budget for one article of clothing was greatest in the case of home wear, and clothing worn outside the home. Many used both kinds of articles for the same purpose. It is desirable, therefore, that the kinds of clothing should be varied according to the purpose for which they are worn, and that clothing appropriate for that purpose should be worn. 3. The motivation for purchasing clothing was highly chosen in the item of seasonal change, which was 55.7%; Clothing deliberately made was indicated by 45.2%. In the mothods of purchasing clothing, clothing made to order and ready-made was indicated by 44.4%, which is the highest; Clothing made to order was 25.4%, and self-sewing was 1.1%, which is the lowest. (1) In the case of self-sewing, "I like it but it is very hard," was checked by 43.6%; "It is so difficult that I cannot wear such clothing" was checked by 13.3%. From these, we can conclude that the questionees are willing to make clothing by themselves, but techniques involved in sewing and at her problems involved in the skill are complicated but when those problems are eliminated there is a possibility for practice. The response checked by questionees concerning the self-sewing was, "It's economical", which is a clear indication that many questionees are positive for self-sewing. It is generally believed that ready-made clothing is cheaper, but it is not necessarily so. In consideration of the quality of clothing, self-sewing is a necessity, and it is desirable that it should be encouraged. (3) Problems involved in ready-made clothing, such as designs, skills, size (fitting) should be eliminated. When these problems are scientifically gotten rid of, it is possible that affirmative returns will be expected. Affirmative responses such as "Ready-made clothing is economical," "You can select there on the spot," are good signs that many women expect to wear ready-made clothing. It is in this sense that the prospect for ready-made clothing is brighter when much development for ready-made clothing is on the way. 4. Much concern for fashion are checked in such item of questions as "Fashionable clothing in the show window," "Clothes worn by women." The first item was checked by 50.1 %, and the second was checked by 48.6%. The reason for following fashion is "Because many people wear them," which was indicated by 30.4%. The reason for not following fashion is "It is too expensive," which was checked by 29.6%. The 26.2% of the answers indicated that "Fashionable clothing is devoid of personality," The influences of fashion over the development of fashion over the development of clothing are two-fold: Esthetic and active. 근로기혼여성의 이중노동부담에 관한 실증연구: 가사노동분담에 관한 협조적 적응, 이중노동부담, 적응지체 가설의 검증 (An Empirical Study on the Dual Burden of Married Working Women : Testifying the Adaptive Partnership, Dual Burden and Lagged Adaptation Hypotheses)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 여성의 경제참여 증가에 따른 무급가사노동의 분담정도를 설명하고 있는 세 가지 가설을 한국 상황에서 실증적으로 검증해 보는 것이다. 이 세 가지 가설이란 기혼여성이 취업할 경우 남성배우자가 적극적으로 가사노동을 분담한다는 협조적 적응 가설, 남성배우자의 가사노동분담이 이루어지지 않아 근로기혼여성은 유급과 무급의 이중적인 노동부담에 처하게 된다는 이중노동부담 가설, 그리고 어느 한 시점에서 근로기혼여성의 이중노동부담이 나타나는 것은 사실이나 그 정도는 세대간에 달라질 수 있으며, 장기적인 추세를 관찰하면 맞벌이 남성의 가사노동분담도 역시 증가해 왔다는 적응 지체가설이다. 이상의 세 가설을 검증하기 위한 핵심 독립변수로 성별, 연령, 맞벌이 여부가, 종속변수로는 총 노동시간과 무급가사노동시간이 설정되었고, 분석자료는 1999년 통계청의 생활시간조사 원자료가 이용되었다. 연구결과, 근로기혼여성은 남성배우자에 비하여 하루 평균 100분 이상을 더 일하고 있었으며, 한국 남성들의 가사노동시간은 23-25분 정도로 여성의 5-10% 수준에 불과하여, 무급가사 노동의 분담수준이 매우 낮았음을 알 수 있었다. 또, 남성의 무급가사노동시간의 변이를 설명하기 위한 독립변수로 설정되었던 맞벌이 여부나 연령의 통계적 유의성은 찾아볼 수 없었다. 따라서, 한국의 상황에서는 협조적 적응 가설은 물론 세대간의 행위차이를 가정한 적응지체 가설도 채택될 수 없었으며, 이중노동부담가설이 근로기혼여성의 현실을 가장 잘 설명하는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로, 본 연구는 취업여성의 이중노동부담을 경감시킬 수 있는 사회복지서비스 제도의 확충, 보살핌노동에 대한 보상체계 등을 제안하였으며, 시간자료를 이용한 후속연구의 방향을 제시하였다.
