Phased-array antennas comprise a demanding antenna design methodology for commercial wireless communication systems or military radar systems. In addition to these two important applications, the phased-array antennas can be used in beamforming for wireless charging. In this study, a four-way analog beamforming front-end module (FEM) for a hybrid beamforming system is developed for 2.4 GHz operation. In a hybrid beamforming scheme, an analog beamforming FEM in which the phase and amplitude of RF signal can be adjusted between the RF chain and phased-array antenna is required. With the beamforming and beam steering capability of the phased-array antennas, wireless RF power can be transmitted with high directivity to a designated receiver for wireless charging. The four-way analog beamforming FEM has a 32 dB gain dynamic range and a phase shifting range greater than 360°. The maximum output RF power of the four-way analog beamforming FEM is 40 dBm (=10 W) when combined the four individual RF paths are combined.

In this paper, the X($1{\times}2$, 10.525 GHz) and K($3{\times}6$, 24.15 GHz) bands patch array antenna having single feed line for radar detector applications is proposed. The left side of the proposed array antenna is X band array antenna and the right is K band array antenna. Two array antennas with two stubs located in the front of antennas are fed through one transmission line. If the array antennas which have the different resonance frequency are fed by one transmission line using general T-junction, it interferes each other and the array antenna lost its character. Therefore, to prevent these interferences, two stubs using open and short property of stub are designed. First of all, the performances of array antenna weren't changed when each array antennas were connected with the stub and in the end, it is found out that it was the same when the two array antennas were combined and feed through the one transmission line. The measured gain at X band is 6.47 dBi and measured gain at K band is 13.07 dBi. The experimental results agree well with the simulated ones.

Effect of a finite grounded substrate on mutual coupling characteristics of a 2-element array antenna using inductor loaded patch antennas is investigated. The mutual coupling characteristics of a 2-element array antenna using inductor loaded patch antennas positioned along the E-plane are compared with those positioned along the H-plane. The magnitude of mutual coupling is very small and the distance between the center of element and the substrate edge on the E-plane for the minimum mutual coupling is similar regardless of the direction at which antenna elements are positioned in the case of a 2-element array antenna using inductor loaded patch antennas.

This study is concerned with a feeding method of microstrip patch antennas with different widths as feeding elements in order to obtain the appropriate radiation patterns of nonuniform array antennas. We analyze a microstrip patch antenna based on the transmission line model and derive that the ratio of current is equal to that of the input impedances of array antenna elements in case that the feed-line length between elements of array antenna is equal to the integer times of $\lambda_g$. We measure the radiation patterns of the nonuniform microstrip patch array antenna with 6 and 9 elements. The patterns measured are well agreed with the theoritically calculated patterns. Thus, this result can be utilized in the implementation of a feed network in nonuniform array antennas.

The patch antennas with an array of pins with excellent radiation characteristics are investigated for several substrate thicknesses. The patch length of a pin array patch antenna for the maximum suppression of radiation in the horizontal plane decreases as the substrate thickness increases. The radiation in the horizontal plane of a pin array patch antenna is very small compared to that of a conventional patch antenna. The increase of forward radiation and the decrease of backward radiation of a pin array patch are obtained compared to those of a conventional patch antenna. The half-power beamwidth of E-plane radiation pattern of a pin array patch antenna is narrow compared to that of a conventional patch antenna so that the directivity is improved.

In this paper we designed and measured HTS antenna array for Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) system. HTS antennas fabricated in this work were a four-element, 11.67 ㎓z, high-Tc superconducting (HTS) microstrip antenna array with corporate feed network and circular polarization for direct broadcas- ting satellite (DBS) system. Our antennas was designed and built on a 0.5 mm thick YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) /MgO substrate. The measurement results showed good axial ratio, wide bandwidth a remarkable improvement over their metal counterpart.

This paper includes the study of DOA(Direction of Arrival). CVDF(Correlative Vector Direction Finding) algorithm using at the phase difference each antenna needs to obtain ideal sinusoidal phase difference patterns. However, the phase difference patterns of circular array antennas may be interfered on a specific frequency band and to particular angle. The effect of installing each array antenna circularly and the effect of the interference by center pole (located in the center of a circular array antennas) may distort the phase difference patterns. This paper propose how to change the combination of antennas to measure phase difference patterns in real-time and how to use antenna beam patterns for minimizing the degradation phenomena with old CVDF algorithm. According to the test result, the capability of direction finding is improved.

We propose the mirror active element pattern (AEP) method for the radiation pattern computation of linear array antennas versus scan angles. The computation time for the radiation pattern of linear array antennas using the mirror AEP method is reduced by almost half compared to that using the AEP method because the number of AEPs of elements obtained by the full-wave simulation necessary for the radiation pattern computation of linear array antennas is reduced by almost half. The difference between the radiation patterns of linear array antennas obtained by the full-wave simulation and mirror AEP method is very small for wide scan angle range when the radiation pattern of an antenna element is symmetric.

In this paper, we fabricated dual polarization microstrip array antenna to analyze the performance of polarization diversity of each antennas beamwidth and recommend suitable polarizations diversity antenna under indoor environments. The proposed antennas which have directional beam patterns are small, light and thin. Also they are $1\times4$ array and $4\times4$ array antenna with $70^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ beamwidth, respectively. The center frequency is 1890 MHz, IMT-2000's frequency. We also measured the antennas characteristics of each beamwidth in various waveguide structured corridor and compared then with the case of space diversity using the dipole antenna. The measurement shows that the polarization diversity using directional dual polarization microstrip array antennas has more 1~7 dB diversity gain than the space diversity using the dipole antenna. Therefore, the proposed antennas are expected to be efficiently used for the design of optimal directional beam pattern antenna and diversity system for indoor environments.
