  • Cryptography attempts to protect information by altering its form to make it unreadable to all but the authorized readers. DBMS is a most important computer application area requiring data security, but only a few cryptosystems are suggested for the database encryption. This research develops a new Residue-Coded Cryptosystem based on the Chinese Remainder Theorem, which is considered to be more efficient than the database encryption scheme introduced by Davida, Wells and Kam in 1981.

  • We establish a characterization theorem of elliptic paraboloids in the (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space 𝔼n+1 with extrinsic properties such as the (n+1)-dimensional volumes of regions enclosed by the hyperplanes and hypersurfaces, and the n-dimensional areas of projections of the sections of hypersurfaces cut off by hyperplanes.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and utilize various kinds of mathematics teaching materials for gifted class in elementary school by utilizing polyominoes and a what-if-not strategy. Blokus is used to let students understand the characteristics of polyominoes, and omok is utilized to let them grasp interior point. Thus, the activities that utilized the new materials, blokus and omok, are developed to teach Pick's theorem. Besides, recreation activities were additionally prepared to provide education in an easy, intriguing and creative manner. The findings of the study is as follows: First, each of the materials was utilized in a different manner when the students engaged in basic and enrichment learning. Second, the mathematically gifted students were able to discover Pick's theorem in the course of utilizing the materials that contained recreational elements. Third, the students were taught to foster their problem-solving skills about area, girth and interior point by making use of the materials that were designed to be linked to each other. Fourth, existing programs were just designed to attain particular objects, to be conducted at a fixed time and to cater to particular graders. Fifth, when the students made problems by making use of the what if (not) strategy and the materials, they responded in diverse ways and were able to apply them.

  • Generally, the conventional fish size grading methods just adopt the mechanical technique. So the grading methods have a problem such that the graded fish is easy to hurt on the skin and in the internal organs. In this paper, a fish size grading machine is developed using an image processing method. The grading method is based on the principal axis theorem. The length and projected area of a fish are obtained by getting the principal axis and the product of inertia moment on the captured image of a target fish. The developed machine uses an uncontact technique that the target fishes go through the front side of the CCD camera. So the above stated problem can be improved. The performance of this method is discussed with the experimental results.

  • The purpose of this research is to suggest a new way to approach measuring the waist line of slacks. The pattern formulated enables a construction method that optimizes motion. The method is based on the measurement on the length change of the body surface line. The research reveals: 1. The analysis of expansion and contraction by area showed that G8 markedly shrunk, whilst G15 maximally stretched during M4 motion. 2. The areas that stretched during M2 motion were, in order of size: G10, G17, G16, and G8. Conversely, the areas that shrunk are, in order, G9, G11, and G18. The areas that stretched during M3 motion were G10, G17, G16, G12, and G15; the areas that shrunk were G9, G11, G18, and G8. 3. In constructing the slacks pattern to allow for appropriate movement, we calculated the length between the knee and back of the waist, point (y), using Pythagoras’theorem and trigonometry. The equation was y = 1.005x. 4. In the two pattern N method and L method, y is equal or less than x, but for our research pattern, y was larger than x

  • The MHD virial theorem applied for observed photospheric field may be the one of way to estimate magnetic energy of generally invisible coronal magnetic structure. However, the photospheric field is not in a force-free state, so the application of virial theory needs some care. Here we use a series of MHD simulations of emerging field to investigate how we can apply the virial theorem to the emerging field. In early emerging phase, virial energy has a minus value although positive area at the photosphere is continuously generated toward a late emerging phase. We discuss why this tendency occurs. Then we derive the critical height where the actual emerging magnetic energy is almost comparable to the virial energy. If the difference between virial energy and magnetic energy becomes 10 percentage of the magnetic energy, we define this is the critical height, and assume the emerging field is close to force-free. We also discuss how the critical height changes with the initial twist of an emerging flux tube.

  • The inquiry subject of this paper is the number of convex polygons one can form by attaching the seven pieces of a tangram. This was identified by two mathematical proofs. One is by using Pick's Theorem and the other is 和々草's method, but they are difficult for elementary students because they are part of the middle school curriculum. This paper suggests new methods, by using unit area and the minimum area which can be applied at the elementary level. Development of programs for the mathematically gifted elementary students can be composed of 4 class times to see if they can prove it by using new methods. Five mathematically gifted 5th grade students, who belonged to the gifted class in an elementary school participated in this program. The research results showed that the students can justify the number of convex polygons by attaching edgewise seven pieces of tangrams.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a teaching and learning material integrated two subjects Pythagorean theorem and Fibonacci numbers. Traditionally the former subject belongs to geometry area and the latter is in algebra area. In this work we integrate these two issues and make a discovery method to generate infinitely many Pythagorean numbers by means of Fibonacci numbers. We have used this article as a teaching and learning material for a science high school and found that it is very appropriate for those students in advanced geometry and number theory courses.

  • The paper presents a numerical method for the limit analysis of structures made of a rigid no-tension material. Firstly, we formulate the constrained minimum problem resulting from the application of the kinematic theorem, which characterizes the collapse multiplier as the minimum of all kinematically admissible multipliers. Subsequently, by using the finite element method, we derive the corresponding discrete minimum problem in which the objective function is linear and the inequality constraints are linear as well as quadratic. The method is then applied to some examples for which the collapse multiplier and a collapse mechanism are explicitly known. Lastly, the solution to the minimum problem calculated via numerical codes for quadratic programming problems, is compared to the exact solution.

  • An attempt is made to present a method of prediction for typhoons apporaching the Korean-peninsula. The method is based upon the Bayesian theorem to improve the observed (prior) probabilities of typhoons approaching the Korean sea area incorporating conditional probability. A total of 248 typhoons is collected and analyzed to establish prior probability and conditional probability according to the defined procedure. The typhoons used are those which encompassed the western Pacific area to which the Korean-peninsula is subjected. The results of examplary computations suggest that the presented method is promising for predicting approaching typhoons.
