  • The characteristics for hydrogen production and the thermochemical properties of high temperature steam electrolysis(HTSE) device have been numerically analyzed in a two-dimension, steady-state with using the COMSOL $Multiphysics^{(R)}$. The main parameters for the calculation are applied voltage, ASR(Area-specific Resistance), temperature and pressure of the inlet gas flow. The results showed that thermal-neutral voltage was 1.2454 V and rather than the cell temperature increases or decreases with increasing applied voltage by thermal-neutral voltage starting this voltage the temperature in high voltage tended to rise and temperature in the low voltage tended to fall. And with, increasing the values of ASR, temperature inside the cell and the hydrogen production rate were decreased.

  • SiC particles, 8.3 ${\mu}m$ in volume average diameter, were chlorinated in an alumina tubular reactor, 2.4 cm in diameter and 32 cm in length, with reactor temperature varied from 100 to $1200^{\circ}C$. The flow rate of the gas admitted to the reactor was held constant at 300 cc/min, the mole fraction of chlorine in the gas at 0.1 and the reaction time at 4 h. The chlorination was negligibly small up to the temperature of $500^{\circ}C$. Thereafter, the degree of chlorination increased remarkably with increasing temperature until $900^{\circ}C$. As the temperature was increased further from 900 to $1200^{\circ}C$, the increments in chlorination degree were rather small. At $1200^{\circ}C$, the chlorination has nearly been completed. The surface area of the residual carbon varied with chlorination temperature in a manner similar to that with the variation of chlorination degree with temperature. The surface area at $1200^{\circ}C$ was 912 $m^{2}/g$. A simple model was developed to predict the conversion of a SiC under various conditions. A Langmuir-Hinshelwood type rate law with two rate constants was employed in the model. Assuming that the two rate constants, $k_{1}$ and $k_{2}$, can be expressed as $A_{1e}^{-E_{1}/RT}$ and $A_{2e}^{-E_{2}/RT}$, the four parameters, $A_{1}$, $E_{1}$, $A_{2}$, and $E_{2}$ were determined to be 32.0 m/min, 103,071 J/mol, 2.24 $m^{3}/mol$ and 39,526 J/mol, respectively, through regression to best fit experimental data.

  • High Temperature Superconductor power cable systems are being developed actively to solve the problem of increasing power demand. With increases in the unit length of the High Temperature Superconductor power cable, it is necessary to develop highly efficient and reliable cryogenic pumps to transport the coolant over long distances. Generally, to obtain a high degree of efficiency, the cryogenic pump requires a high pressure rise with a low flow rate, and a partial emission type pump is appropriate considering its low specific speed, which is different from the conventional centrifugal type, full emission type. This paper describes the design of a partial emission pump to circulate subcooled liquid nitrogen. It consists of an impeller, a circular case and a diffuser. The conventional pump and the partial emission pump have different features in the impeller and the discharge flow passage. The partial emission pump uses an impeller with straight radial blades. The emission of working fluid does not occur continuously from all of the impeller channels, and the diffuser allows the flow only from a part of the impeller channels. As the area of the diffuser increases gradually, it converts the dynamic pressure into static pressure while minimizing the loss of total pressure. We used the known numerical method for the optimum design process and made a CFD analysis to verify the theoretical performance.

  • Since $20^{th}$ century, along with the rapid industrial advancement, the concentrated urban development in specific large cities have made people migrate to those cities, thus causing problems in the power system stability. In case of Korea, more than 40% of the power system demand comes from the consumers in Seoul Metropolitan area and the rate is expected to increase. With the continuous increase of power demand, in order to meet the demand for system reliability improvement, the power system was multi-looped for reliability enhancement, the problem of fault current happened. In this situation, there are several methods for fault current reduction likes current limiting reactor, replacing circuit breaker, splitting busses, etc. But these methods reached its limit, power system needs more fundamental solutions such as grid segmentation. In this paper, we assume grid segmentation already has been progressed using VSC BTB HVDC. Then, this paper discusses operating point of HVDC in metropolitan area considering loss minimization and handy flow control. The simulation is proceeded on 2027 KEPCO system.

  • Accumulation of coal ash at the boiler wall reduces combustion and fuel efficiency. The design of a wall blower is important to effectively remove coal ash. We present numerical results for the removal of coal ash from boiler walls of domestic coal-fired power plants, associated with the computational fluid dynamics for the flow from spray nozzle to boiler wall. The numerical model simulates an erosion process in which the multiphase fluid comprising saturated vapor and fluid water is sprayed from the nozzle, and the water particles impact the boiler wall. We adopt the Finnie erosion model for water particles. We obtain the erosion rate density as a function of nozzle angle and its injection angle. As excessive coal ash removal usually induces damage to the boiler wall, the removal operation typically focuses on a large area with uniform depth rather than the maximum removal of coal ash at a specific location. In order to estimate the removal performance of the wall blower nozzle considering several functionality and reliability factors, we evaluate the optimal injection and nozzle angles with respect to the biggest cumulative and highest erosion rates, as well as the widest range and lowest standard deviation of the erosion rate distribution.

  • In this study, examined the cutting characteristics of alumuminum alloy AC8A-T6 that is used to present car piston materials. And in been holding materials machining empirically escape as result that experiment comparison changing the cutting speed and feed on various condition to choose efficient machining condition. The following results can be summarized from this research. 1. As the cutting speed decreased, principal cutting force and thrust cutting force is increased, and reason that cutting force interacts greatly in the low cutting speed is thought by result by BUE's stabilization. 2. The feed speed and cutting speed increase, friction factor is decrescent and the cause appeared the thrust cutting force is fallen than cutting force relatively because chip flow according to increase of the feed rate is constraint. 3. Though specific cutting resistance grows cutting area and the feed rate are few, the cause was expose that shear angle decreases by rake face of tool gets into negative angle remarkably as wear of a cutting tool or defect part of workpiece is cut. 4. Cutting speed do greatly depth of cut is slow, surface roughness examined closely through an experiment that becomes bad, and know that it can get good surface that process cutting speed because do feed rate by 0.1mm/rev low more than 250m/min to get good surface roughness can.

  • LID facilities like bio-retention cells is applied to manage stormwater. LID concept becomes an important part in stormwater management, and the clear understanding of hydrologic performance and hydrologic impact on the corresponding catchment has been needed. In this study, the application of flow duration curves as design strategy is investigated. Bio-retention cells like many LID facilities are installed to reproduce natural hydrologic processes. In this study, the attempt to determine the size of a bio-retention cell is carried out to satisfy the flow duration criteria. From the results, it is shown that "5 mm * the area of a target catchment" which is the current facility design capacity is valid for the drainage area with 20-30% impervious rate. In the 100% impervious catchment where LID facilities are typically installed, the design capacity to intercept stormwater of approximately 47 mm depth is required to reproduce natural flow duration curves. This means that about 11% of the target catchment area should be allocated as a bio-retention cell. However, the criteria of the design capacity and facility surface area should be set at the possible implementation conditions in reality, and site-specific hydrologic characteristics of a target catchment should be considered.

  • Silica powders were prepared from $SiCl_4$-$H_2$O system by chemical vapor deposition process, and investigated on size control of the products with reaction conditions. The products were amorphous and nearly spherical particles with 130nm~50nm in size. The size distribution became narrow with the increase of [$H_2$O]/[SiCl$_4$] concentration ratio. The particle size decreased with the increase of reaction temperature, [$H_2$O]/[SiCl$_4$] concentration ratio and total flow rate. The specific surface area measured by BET method was about three times larger than that of electron microscope method.

  • In the present work, the numerical model was refined to predict the thermal analysis of energy storage in a fixed beds during (charging ,storing, discharging) mode. The governing energy equations of both fluid and the solid particles along with their initial and boundary conditions are derived using a two-phase, one dimensional model. The refined model is carried out by taking into account change of (air density , air specific heat) with air temperature and also by taking into considerations heat losses from bed to surrounding. Finite difference method was used to obtain solution of two governing energy equations of both fluid and solid particles through a computer program especially constructed for this purpose. The temperature field for the air and the solid are obtained, also efficiency of energy stored inside the bed is computed. Finally using refined model the effect of air flow rate per unit area Ga (0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 kg/$m^2$-s), and inlet air temperature (200, 250, 300 $^{\circ}C$) on energy storage characteristics was studied in three mode ( charging ,storing, discharging). The rock particles of diameter 1 em is used as bed material in this research.

  • In this study, the effect of shear rate on the viscosity variation is examined to understand the flow characteristics of the mixture of bentonite and water. The variation of film thickness according to mixing ratio and viscosity is measured to characterize the film formation. And, the separation of dried film is studied according to film thickness. Specific surface area affecting on adsorption capability is measured using BET method. The viscosity decreases and the film thickness increases as the mixing ratio increases. The separation characteristic of dried film is suitable within a range of 40 to 150 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in film thickness and 5 to 10% in mixing ratio.
