A Study on the Quantitative Model of the Reach of the Catchment and the Distance to Urban Community Parks (도시근린공원의 도달거리와 포착력에 관한 계량모형연구)

  • This study is practically focussed on the derivation of the formula of the reach of the catchment of urban community parks and the reached distance to the parks. The hypotheses for the formula are as follows. a. The catchment of urban community parks can be dependent on the quantitative characteristics that urban community parks have substanial factors : the potential residential population of the proximate community to a park, park visitor's day and mean usetime per year. b. The distance to the urban park is a decided variable which can be percieved quantitatively by the researchers among the exogenous variables concerned with the mean usetime of the urban community park. The data for the variables were collected from the statistics, and the surveys for 9 parks of 4cities(Seoul, Chong-ju, Su-Won, Chon-an) in Korea, which were divided into on-site samples and off-site ones in 1991. The data were collected by questionaire surveys. A total of 548 questionaires of off-site surveys were completed by the residents in the enticing area of the parks. A total of 1053 questionaires of on-site surveys were completed by the visitors of the parks. The research could attempt to derive a formula, which was concerned with the reach of the catchment of urban community parks and the reached distance to the parks. It is testified(R2>0.8) that the numbers of mean usetime per year should be related with the reached distance from a visitor's house to a proximate park. The formula is analogized with an exponential function: {{{{ Mean Usetime per year=f(x)=Ae-BK+Ce-DK ear, X is reached distance from a visitor's house to a proximate park. A,B,C and D are parameters. And, the differences of the reach of the catchment of the parks are not only testified with resulting from the differences of the exogenous variables of qualitative characteristics differences of the parks, but also divided separately into spatial ranges. This formula will be able to anticipate the visitor's numbers of a planned urban community park.

On the maximum Depth-Area-Duration for Storms in Nakdong River Basin (낙동강유역의 최대 DAD에 관하여)

  • The DAD for Nakdong River Basin is studied on the basis of qselected storms (1916~1970) by WMO Standard method. The maximum DAD BAlue for a storm period of 24hrs assuming that the basin area is estimated as about $2,500\textrm{km}^2$ comes out to be 153mm. The investigation appears to be supporting a conclusion that the Horton's formula is also applicable to this basin.

  • Area problems for triangles and polygons whose vertices have Fibonacci numbers on a plane were presented by A. Shriki, O. Liba, and S. Edwards et al. In 2017, V. P. Johnson and C. K. Cook addressed problems of the areas of triangles and polygons whose vertices have various sequences. This paper examines the conditions of triangles and polygons whose vertices have Lucas sequences and presents a formula for their areas.

Fermented Soybean Powder Reduces Body Weight Gain and Improves Hepatic Lipid Accumulation in High Fat Diet-Fed Obese Male C57BL/6N Mice (고지방식이 마우스 비만모델에서 발효대두파우더의 체중증가량 변화와 지방간 개선)

  • Objectives : We investigated the effects of fermented soybean(FSOB) on body weight and examined whether hepatic lipid accumulation are inhibited by it in high fat diet-fed obese male mice. Methods : 8 weeks old, high fat diet-fed obese male mice were divided into 5 groups: C57BL/6N normal, control, FSOB(1), (2) and (3). After mice were treated with FSOB for 9 weeks, we measured body weight gain, food intake, feeding efficiency ratio, fat weight, plasma leptin and lipid levels. We also did histological analysis for liver and fat on the mice. Results : 1. Compared with controls, FSOB-treated mice had lower body weight gain and adipose tissue weight, the magnitudes of which were prominent in FSOB(3) and FSOB(1). 2. Compared with controls, FSOB-treated mice had lower feeding efficiency ratio and blood plasma leptin levels, the magnitude of which was prominent in FSOB(3). 3. Compared with controls, FSOB-treated mice had lower blood plasma total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels. 4. Blood plasma AST and ALT concentrations were not changed by FSOB, indicating FSOB do not show any toxic effects. 5. Consistent with their effects on body weight gain, the size of adipocytes were significantly decreased by FSOB, whereas the adipocyte number per unit area was significantly increased, suggesting that FSOB decreased the number of large adipocytes. Hepatic lipid accumulation was decreased by FSOB. Conclusions : These results demonstrate that FSOB effectively reduces body weight gain, feeding efficiency ratio, blood plasma leptin level and improves hepatic lipid accumulation.

On the written order of characters in the formula for measuring the area of a circle (원의 넓이를 구하는 공식에서 문자 표기 순서에 대한 연구)

  • Regarding the formula for measuring the area of a circle, the Archimedes' constant is generally written in front of the square of radius length, but there were a few cases where the Archimedes' constant was written after that in Germany and France. In this study, two things are studied: First, how many students are writing the Archimedes' constant after that? Second, what do the students think about the written order of characters in the formula for measuring the area of a circle? In the online survey of 201 people aged 14 to 21 in Korea, there was a perception of more than 86% that both are possible or only after that are possible. In this study, it is suggested that there is a difference between the general written order of characters and the natural perception of students formed through school education. In addition, students aged 14 to 16 thought more that the Archimedes' constant should be written after that, and after that age, there was a greater perception that both are possible without confusion of meaning. It can be seen that the change in students' perception has emerged through school education on natural mathematical written order of characters after middle school courses. From this point of view, the most common perception can be that if there is no confusion in meaning, then both expressions are possible.

Analysis of Shapes of Bending and Draping by the Model Rule (닮음 법칙에 의한 굽힘 및 드레이프 형상의 해석)

  • The factors to presume the shapes of bending and draping were examined in this study, by applying the similar phenomenon and theory of analysis. The findings were as followings: 1. The value of deflection angle (f) of deflection curve were almost consistent with those of K number and the shapes of deflection curve were congruent, under the condition of that the values of EI/w are almost similar and the lengths of samples are consistent. 2. The values of drape area, drape coefficient, mean of deflection angle, and $\pi$ number were consistently estimated and the shapes of drape were almost the same, under the condition of that the values of EI/w are similar and the diameter of samples are consistent. 3. In using the samples with different values of EI/w, scale factor, kl, was obtained from the formula, the shapes of bending of the referent samples and compsactive smaples was geometrically similar, which the lengths of samples were 1,1'and were satisfied with the formula, hi: L'11, and their $\pi$ number were also consistent. 4. In applying the samples with different values of Rllw, scale factor (kl) was obtained and then, when semidiameter of samples was adjusted to be satisfied with the formula, k1=L/L, the shapes of draping of referent samples and comparative samples were geometrically similar. Furthermore, their $\pi$ number was also consistent. 5. The shares of bending and draping could be changed in terms of three factors such as the lengths of samples, bending ridigity, and weigths per unit area. $\pi$ number was obtained from theory of similar phenomenon, which was index to presume shapes of bending and the shapes of draping getting from the three factors.

A Study on Evaluation of Korean Collection of North America: Focused on the A University (북미 대학의 한국학 장서 평가에 관한 연구: A 대학을 중심으로)

  • This paper evaluated the collection development of the Korean collection at the A university over the several decade. Compared against the ACRL standard Formula A, the result demonstrated that the Korean library collection is still needed to increase Korean collection to support Korean-related program and Korean community in the area. When we share western language materials in the library as the same area studies resources, we can evaluate Korean studies collection as Level B. Comparison with similar institutions (ARL comparisons) shows that the collection is the middle among 15 universities which provide Korean programs. The situation for Korean resources at the A university is needed to get more support from Korean institutes and Korean societies to keep up with the Korean collection for academics and regional community users as well.

Design of Detention Pond and Critical Duration of Design Rainfall in Seoul

  • This study is to determine the critical duration of design rainfall and to utilize it for the design of detention pond with pump station. To examine the effect of the duration and temporal distribytion of the design rainfall, Huff's quartile method is used for the 9 cases of durations (ranges from 20 to 240 minutes) with ten years return period, and the ILLUDAS model is used for runoff analysis. The storage ratio, which is the ratio of maximum storage amounts to total runoff volume, is introduced to determine the criticalduration of design rainfall. The duration which maximizes the storage ratio is adopted as the critical duration. This study is applied to 18 urban drainage watercheds with pump station in Seoul, of which the range of watershed area is 0.24~12.70$km^2$. The result of simulation shows that the duration which maximizes storage ratio is 30 and 60 minutes on the whole. It is also shown that the storage ratios of 2nd - and 3rd-quartile pattern are larger than those of 1st- and 4th-quartile pattern of temporal distribution. A simplified empirical formula for Seoul area is suggested by the regression analysis between the maximum storage ratio and the peak ratio. This formula can be utilized for the preliminary design and planning of detention pond with pump station.

Estimating UCS of cement-grouted sand using characteristics of sand and UCS of pure grout

  • For quality control and the economical design of grouted sand, the prior establishment of the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) estimating formula is very important. This study aims to develop an empirical UCS estimating formula for grouted sand based on the physical properties of sands and the UCS of cured pure grout. Four sands with varying particle sizes were grouted with both microfine cement and Ordinary Portland cement. Grouted specimens were prepared at three different relative densities and at three different water-to-cement ratios, and unconfined compression tests were performed. The results demonstrate that UCS of grouted sand can be expressed as the power function of the UCS of cured pure grout: $UCS_{grouted\;sand}/1MPa=A_{soil}{\cdot}(UCS_{pure}/1MPa)^N$. Because the exponent N strongly depends on the combination of pore area and pore size, N is expressed as the function of porosity (n) and specific surface ($S_a$). Additionally, because $S_a$ determines the area of the sand particle that cement particles can adsorb and n determines the number of cementation bondings between sand particles, $A_{soil}$ is also expressed as the function of n and $S_a$. Finally, the direct relationship between $A_{soil}$ and N is also investigated.
