Optimal sensor placements for system identification of concrete arch dams

  • This paper investigates the optimal sensor placements and capabilities of this procedure for dynamic characteristics identification of arch dams. For this purpose, a prototype arch dam is constructed in laboratory conditions. Berke arch dam located on the Ceyhan River in city of Osmaniye is one of the highest arch dam constructed in Turkey is selected for field verification. The ambient vibration tests are conducted using initial candidate sensor locations at the beginning of the study. Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition and Stochastic Subspace Identification methods are used to extract experimental dynamic characteristics. Then, measurements are repeated according to optimal sensor locations of the dams. These locations are specified using the Effective Independence Method. To determine the optimal sensor locations, the target mode shape matrices which are obtained from ambient vibration tests of the selected dam with a large number of accelerometers are used. The dynamic characteristics obtained from each ambient vibrations tests are compared with each other. It is concluded that the dynamic characteristics obtained from initial measurements and those obtained from a limited number of sensors are compatible with each other. This situation indicates that optimal sensor placements determined by the Effective Independence Method are useful for dynamic characteristics identification of arch dams.

Acute Bone Remodeling after Reduction of Nasal Bone Fracture on Computed Tomography Imaging

  • Background: A number of studies have reported complication after reduction of nasal bone fractures. Among complicated cases, some showed improvement in shape of the nose with passage of time. Therefore, we examined these changes using computed tomography (CT) images taken over intervals. Methods: CT scans of 50 patients with new nasal bone fractures were reviewed, and the images were compared amongst preoperative, immediately postoperative, and one month scans. Changes in nasal bone shape, were evaluated based on the angle of nasal bone arch between the nasal bone and frontal process of maxilla, overall shape of arch, mal-alignment of fracture segments involving bony irregularity or bony displacement. These evaluations were used to separate postoperative outcomes into 5 groups: excellent, good, fair, poor, and very poor. Results: Immediate postoperative nasal shape was excellent in 10 cases, good in 31 cases, fair in 8 cases, and poor results in a single case. Postoperative shape at one month was excellent in 37 cases, good in 12 cases, fair in a single case. Conclusion: The overall shape of nasal bone after fracture reduction tended to improve with passage of time.

2아치 터널 굴착 공법과의 비교를 통한 주방식 굴착 공법의 예비 경제성 검토 연구 (A preliminary study on economical efficiency of a room-and-pillar excavation method in comparison with 2-arch tunnelling method)

  • 본 연구에서는 지하공간 건설을 위한 주방식 공법에 대해 기존 전통적인 지하공간 건설공법에 대비한 공사비 측면의 경제성 검토를 가정된 전형적인 지반조건에 대해 수행하였다. 경제성 비교검토를 위해 지하철 역사 등 대규모 지하공간 조성에 적용되고 있는 전통적인 공법 중 하나인, 2아치 터널 굴착 공법을 비교대상 공법으로 선정하고 동일한 공용 단면적을 확보하도록 굴착하였을 때 소요되는 공사비를 산정하여 비교하고 타당성을 검토하였다. 주방식 공법에 적용할 보강 공법 등은 기존 공법에서 사용하는 방식을 차용하는 것으로 가정하였으며 특히, 굴착 공사의 경우, 주방식 공법은 대체적으로 직사각형 단면을 사용하나 기존 공법과의 비교를 위해, 그리고 공간 천정부 및 암주부의 지반 자체 지지력을 최대한 증가시키기 위해 아치형의 터널 형태로 굴착하는 것으로 가정한 검토를 수행하였다. 검토 결과, 건설 요구 공간이 넓어질수록, 암반의 상태가 양호할수록 기존 전통 터널공법 대비 주방식 공법의 경제성이 더욱 향상될 수 있는 것으로 파악되었다.

마제형 원호 아치의 면내 자유진동 (In-plane Free Vibrations of Horseshoe Circular Arch)

  • 이 연구는 마제형 원호 아치의 면내 저유진동에 관한 연구이다. 마제형 아치의 면내 자유진동을 지배하는 연립 상미분방정식을 곡률중심 및 접선 방향의 변위에 대하여 유도하였다. 특히 지배미분방정식은 반원보다 큰 중심각을 갖는 마제형 아치에 적용하기 위하여 각좌표보다는 곡선거리 좌표에 관한 미분방정식으로 유도하였다. 미분방정식을 수치해석하여 고유진동수와 진동형을 산출하였다. 변수연구를 통하여 회전관성, 세장비, 곡선길이비가 무차원 고유진동수에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다.

  • The objectives of this research are to verify the structural stability and estimate the resisting performance of Stressed-Arch system during the construction process. Full scale models are taken to obtain the objective shape by the Dynamic Relaxation Method. As a result, it measured more strain than yielding strain at the extreme fiber of top chord member on the crown, but it is shown that members have the sufficiently compressive resisting performance as well as a considerable strain recovery capacity under unloading. Therefore, it is confirmed that Stressed-Arch system apparently have sufficient range of the structural capacity, but it is required that the elasto-plastic behavior of this system must be verified more detailed by numerical analysis and experiments.

  • 200m 이하의 아치 교량에서 동적 내풍 안정성은 일반적으로 일본의 Wind Resistant Design Manual for Highway Bridges에 따라 검토된다. 또한 내풍 안정성 검토는 모드 형상에 관계없이 1차 연직 진동수를 적용한다. 일본의 매뉴얼에 따라 설계된 경간장 183m의 닐슨 아치 교량에서 예상치 못한 와류 진동이 발생하였으며 이는 태풍시 교량의 모니터링 시스템에 의해 계측되었다. 본 논문에서는 태풍 발생시에 계측된 풍속, 풍향, 진동 변위와 가속도를 기반으로 닐슨 아치교량의 와류진동 특성을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 1차 연직 진동 모드가 역대칭 형상이고 2차 연직 진동 모드가 대칭 형상인 닐슨 아치교의 경우 와류 진동이 2차 연직 모드에서 지배적이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 2차 연직 진동 모드가 대칭 형상인 닐슨 아치교의 내풍 안정성 평가시에는 1차 보다 2차 연직 진동 모드가 중요한 설계 요소임을 제시하였다.

대칭 모드 아치의 준-해석적 테일러 해와 동적 안정성 (Dynamic Stability and Semi-Analytical Taylor Solution of Arch With Symmetric Mode)

  • In this study, we investigated the dynamic stability of the system and the semi-analytical solution of the shallow arch. The governing equation for the primary symmetric mode of the arch under external load was derived and expressed simply by using parameters. The semi-analytical solution of the equation was obtained using the Taylor series and the stability of the system for the constant load was analyzed. As a result, we can classify equilibrium points by root of equilibrium equation, and classified stable, asymptotical stable and unstable resigns of equilibrium path. We observed stable points and attractors that appeared differently depending on the shape parameter h, and we can see the points where dynamic buckling occurs. Dynamic buckling of arches with initial condition did not occur in low shape parameter, and sensitive range of critical boundary was observed in low damping constants.

  • A comparative study was undertaken to investigate the collapse of maxillary dental arch and palate in unilateral cleft lip and palate individuals. The material for this study consisted of 39 subjects with repaired unilateral cleft lip and palate (30 males, 9 females). The measurements of unilateral cleft lip and palate individuals were compared with the measurements of normal individuals (30 males, 30 females). All the subjects were in the mixed dentition stage and the mean age was almost the same. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. A large number of the maxillary dental arch of the unilateral cleft lip and palate individuals showed ${\Omega}$-shape, and the arch length was shorter than that of normal individuals. The intermolar width did not show significant difference between cleft group and group, but the intercanine width was mcuh smaller than that of normal individuals. 2. The palate of the unilateral cleft lip and palate subjects showed shorter and shallower form than that of normal subjects. 3. The palatal area of the unilateral cleft lip and palate subjects was smaller than that of normal subjects, and the cleft side area was much smaller than the opposing side area. 4. There was no significant sexual difference in measurements of maxillary dental arch and palate of the unilateral cleft lip and palate subjects.

내설성 향상을 위한 지붕형 조립식 파이프하우스의 개발 (Development of a Gable-roofed Prefabricated Pipe-house for Improvement of Snow Endurance)

  • Pipe section of bending part at the arch type pipe-house showed an ellipse with oblateness of 0.076 on the average. Flexural rigidity of bending part decreased by average 6.3% than that of an original round shape section. The deflection of arch type pipe-house measured by model experiments showed much bigger than the result of structural analysis. In case of arch type pipe-house, we supposed that the decrease of flexural rigidity for the bending part of pipes had an effect on deflection of roof under the working load. This effect should be considered in the structural analysis. Bending resistance of gable type pipe-house used a prefabricated connector which developed in this study showed about $1.5{\sim}1.8$ times stronger than that of the existing arch type or gable type processed bending. Therefore, we supposed that the gable-roofed prefabricated pipe-house is safer than arch type or bent gable type in case of heavy snowfall. According to house scales and section properties of steel pipe in use, safe snow depths and rafter intervals were presented for design of gable-roofed prefabricated pipe-house. Their standards were established in the range of the durable models recommended by RDA, and the comparative examinations were conducted by means of structural analysis. It was evaluated that the developed greenhouse model had a high applicability in the field.

철근콘크리트 아치 데크의 정적 휨 거동 (Flexural Behavior of RC Arch Deck Subjected to Static Loading)

  • 본 연구에서는 철근콘크리트 아치 데크의 정적재하실험을 통해 휨 거동을 평가하였다. 휨 실험은 길이 2.5 m, 폭 1.2 m, 중심단면 두께 100 mm, 단부단면 두께 160 mm의 실제 크기 프리캐스트 철근콘크리트 아치 데크의 정적재하 실험을 실시하였다. 실험결과는 극한설계강도에 비하여 약 1.74배 높은 하중을 견디는 것으로 관찰되었다. 반면, 실험체에는 구간에 따라 각각 다른 거동이 관찰되었다. 이러한 거동은 아치 데크와 이를 지지하는 반력대 사이에 일체거동이 이뤄지지 않은 이유로 인한 것으로 판단되었다. 그러므로 추후 연구에서는 반력대를 제외한 아치 데크의 정적재하 실험을 통해 정밀한 거동을 확인해야 할 것으로 사료된다. 실험결과를 종합하여 보면, 철근콘크리트 아치 데크는 일반형태의 바닥판에 비하여 우수한 구조적 이점을 통해 설계기준보다 높은 구조성능을 나타내었다. 이를 통해, 향후에는 장지간 바닥판으로써의 활용이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.
