Experimental Studies on Joinability of SWS 490A High Tension Steel using Acoustic Emission Signals (음향방출 신호를 이용한 SWS 490A 고장력강의 접합성 평가에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • The object of this study is to investigate the effect of joinability by using acoustic emission(AE) signals and doing a pattern recognition for weld heat affected zone(HAZ) in tensile testing. This study was carried out an SWS 490A high tension steel for electric shielded metal arc welding(SMAW), $CO_2$ gas arc welding and TIG welding. And correspondingly, the root openings are 3, 4 and 2.8mm. The results of the tensile test of weld HAZ come out electric shield arc welding $>\;CO_2$ gas arc welding > TIG welding in case of single welding. It is believed that this is a phenomenon where difference of its root opening or base metal thickness. Also, the technique of AE is ideally suited to study variables which control time and stress dependent fracture or damage process in metallic materials.

  • The recent research topics on $CO_2$ arc welding power supplies are focused mainly on the reduction of spatter generation. The method for reducing the spatters can be approached in several ways: finding the new materials fur consumable electrode and shielding gases, researching on the circuit topology and the controller. In this paper, the metal transfer and several control methods for the $CO_2$ GMAW were described. And it was proposed and compared with other schemes that the control method for reducing spatter by controlling the welding current when short-circuit and re-ignition.

  • A robot application system is developed for dual purpose of stud welding and are welding to weld plates in the manufacturing of elevator cabin. The production quantity is not so big to accommodate separate stations for stud welding and are welding respectively while the need for randomization of the processes is urgent. A robot with specification for spot welding is chosen, which is appropriate for stud welding. Some implementations are made so that the robot may also be shared for are welding process. Common jig and fixture is designed for the dual purpose. Important aspects in the procedure of system design, installation, and commissioning are stated, and signal set-ups and logic diagrams are illustrated.

  • The study is focused on the settling the developing direction of korean gas pressure welding machine which can be applied in korean construction sites with moderate and high performance. Gas pressure welding is more economical and has good performances than other steel bar jointing methods, as arc welding and mechanical joint etc. Therefore in Japan, the gas pressure welding, which has less loss of steel bars and low performance of joints, when connecting the D29 and thicker steel bars, Is one of the typical connection of steel reinforcement. But in Korea, the gas pressure welding method is not widely used caused by the shortage of skilled workers, and this situation in Korea can not be solved in short period. The training of the skilled workers takes long period(around $6\~10$ years), and there is no certification system for gas pressure welding. So to activate the gas pressure welding in Korea, the development of the automatic gas pressure welding machine is necessary, which gives regular performance of the steel bar joints and can be operated by not sufficient skilled workers. The automatic gas pressure welding machine was developed in Japan, but this machine has many problems when applied in korean construction sites. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a korean automatic gas pressure welding machine to overcome this problems. To develop korean automatic gas pressure welding machine, the problems, which shows when applied in korean construction sites, need to be investigated. According to the investigation, counterproposals are presented for the pragmatical development of the korean automatic gas pressure welding machine.

  • Generally the control method of wire feeding motor in welding machine has been used full-wave phase control method. The fire-angle control generates low frequency speed ripple, and it causes the output current ripple. So it results in the variation of welding condition and low welding performances such as spatter generation and bead state. For the purpose of welding performances improvement by speed controller in wire feeding motor, in this paper the constant speed control method for welding machine is proposed. The proposed system is composed of speed control loop and current control loop. As a result of experiment by using proposed constant wire feed experiment by using proposed constant wire feed speed controller, the output voltage and current waveform and metal transfer are maintained stably. And moreover the number of instantaneous short circuit occurrence is reduced remarkably.

  • In the conventional wire feeder drives of welding machine, one thyristor or MOSFET device was used for half-wave phase control circuit and direct EMF measurement was used for sensing the wire feed rate. But the method using one switching device has poor response for sudden disturbance and it has latent speed ripple. It can affect some welding performance such as spatter generation and irregular bead formming. Therefore, the welding performance using full-bridge PWM speed control scheme was compared with conventional driving scheme was compared with conventional driving scheme and experimented in this paper. The results of experiment confirm the posibility of welding performance improvement by proposed constant speed control scheme in wire feeding drive of welding machine.

  • In welding, there is much dangerous element. Workers who are exposed to working field of welding may be infected with industrial diseases. To solve these problems, many studies has been carried out. It is a good method to make welding automation in the distance and internet makes it possible. If internet is used, welding can be carried out without the limitation of time and place. On this study, welding by using internet is studied. By using internet, computer which has interface with welding machine is connected to computer in the distance and welding is carried out with the signal of computer in the distance. Basically the connection of computers is made by two program-Server and client windows program-which have functions which are needed for control of XYZ table and welding machine. Through these program, the motion of welding torch which was mounted on XYZ table, the starting and ending of welding is controlled and monitored with a camera. Also, signal-welding current and arc voltage-is measured and displayed.

  • With the trend towards welding automation and robozation, mathematical models for studying the influence of various parameters on the weld bead geometry in Gas Metal Arc(GMA) welding process are required. The results of bead on plate welds deposited using the GMA welding process has enabled mathematical relationships to be developed that model the weld bead geometry. Experimental results were compared to outputs obtained using existing formulae that correlate process input variables to output parameters and subsequent modelling was performed in order to better predict the output of the GMA welding process. The aim of this work was to explain the relationships between GMA welding variables and weld bead geometry and thus, be able to predict input weld bead size. The relationships can be usefully employed for open loop process control and also for adaptive control provided that dynamic sensing of process output is performed.

  • Arc welding process is one of the most important technologies to join metal plates. Robotic welding offers the reduced manufacturing cost sought, but its widespread use demands a means of sensing and correcting for inaccuracies in the part, the fixturing and the robot. A number of problems that need to be addressed in robotic arc welding processes include sensing, joint tracking, and lack of adequate models for process parameter prediction and quality control. Problems with parameter settings and quality control occur frequently in the GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding process due to the large number of interactive process parameters that must be set and accurately controlled. The objectives of this paper are to realize the mapping characteristics of bead width using a sensitivity analysis and develop the neural network and multiple regression method, and finally select the most accurate model in order to control the weld quality(bead width) for fillet welding. The experimental results show that the proposed neural network estimator can predict bead width with reasonable accuracy, and guarantee the uniform weld quality.
