  • The paper describes a theoretical study on the flexural vibration of an elastic rectangular plate with periodically nonuniform material properties. The approximate solution of the natural frequency and mode shape has been obtained using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidity and mass density. It has been shown that distributed modes exist in the plate which is a two-dimensional model of the flat panel speaker.

  • The considerations in the noise control by enclosure are the rise of temperature and sound pressure, transmission loss, absorption coefficient of the materials, the structure of the soundproof panels, an opening and coincidence frequency. But it is very difficult that we obtain the accurate data about those in design, so, the noise reduction after enclosing does not correspond with the calculation. The difference of the noise reduction between the calculation and the measurement was 8.2dBA, and we can obtain the approximate result as the following formula which correct 10dBA, safely.

  • One of the techniques to determine flood stages in natural channel is to find the solution of unsteady flow equations such as continuity and momentum equations. Since the exact analytic solution of these equations are not Known, the implicit numerical scheme is widely accepted tool for the approximate solution of equations. This technique is applied to the downstream of Daechung Dam in Geum River for the determination of flood stage for given frequency. However the flood stages are greatly affected by the method of reservoir Operation Method and Technical Operation Reservoir Method. Obviously, the Tech. ROM is found to be superior to Auto ROM.

  • A lumped electrical circuit is an approximate representation of the field within a curtain frequency range. The finite element modelling is a synonym of the equivalent circuit. The electric conduction field and electric potential wave field have been modelled by an admittance network and an LC low-pass filter network. Here in the present paper, the equivalent magnetic circuit representation is created for a magnetostatic field by the finite element modelling in two dimension.

  • Advancing of mobile device is remarkable, so the research on mobile input device is getting more important issue. There are lots of input devices such as keypad, QWERTY keypad, touch and speech recognizer, but they are not as convenient as typical keyboard-based desktop input devices so input strings usually contain many typing errors. These input errors are not trouble with communication among person, but it has very critical problem with searching in database, such as dictionary and address book, we can not obtain correct results. Especially, Hangeul has more than 10,000 different characters because one Hangeul character is made by combination of consonants and vowels, frequency of error is higher than English. Generally, suffix tree is the most widely used data structure to deal with errors of query, but it is not enough for variety errors. In this paper, we propose fast approximate Korean word searching system, which allows variety typing errors. This system includes several algorithms for applying general approximate string searching to Hangeul. And we present profanity filters by using proposed system. This system filters over than 90% of coined profanities.

  • Seismic waveform inversion can be solved by using the classical Gauss-Newton method, which needs to construct the huge Hessian by the directly computed Jacobian. The property of Hessian mainly depends upon a source and receiver aperture, a velocity model, an illumination Bone and a frequency content of source wavelet. In this paper, we try to invert the Marmousi seismic data by controlling the huge Hessian appearing in the Gauss-Newton method. Wemake the two kinds of he approximate Hessian. One is the banded Hessian and the other is the approximate Hessian with automatic gain function. One is that the 1st updated velocity model from the banded Hessian is nearly the same of the result from the full approximate Hessian. The other is that the stability using the automatic gain function is more improved than that without automatic gain control.

  • In this paper Power Flow Finite Element Method(PFFEM) has been implemented to analyze the vibration of a plate in mid and high frequency ranges. In order to solve the vibration energy governing equation in Power Flow Analysis(PFA), The Finite Element Method(FEM) was used as a numerical tool. It allowed one to predict the distribution of displacement and Intensity in the plate vibrating at mid and high frequencies. The results were compared with the analytical solutions and the approximate FEM solutions. The comparison showed that PFFEM can be an effective tool to analyze the structural vibration in mid and high frequency ranges.

  • Guyed masts subjected to turbulent winds exhibit complex vibrations featuring many vibration modes, each of which contributes to various structural responses in differing degrees. This dynamic behaviour is further complicated by nonlinear guy cable properties. While previous studies have indicated that conventional frequency domain methods can reliably reproduce load effects within the mast, the system linearization required to perform such an analysis makes it difficult to relate these results directly to corresponding guy forces. As a result, the estimation of peak load effects arising jointly from the structural action of the mast and guys, such as leg loads produced as a result of guy reactions and mast bending moments, is uncertain. A numerical study was therefore undertaken to study peak load effects in a 295 m tall guyed mast acted on by simulated turbulent wind. Responses calculated explicitly from nonlinear time domain finite element analyses were compared with approximate methods in the frequency domain for estimating peak values of selected responses, including guy tension, mast axial loads and mast leg loads. It was found that these peak dynamic load effects could be accurately estimated from frequency domain analysis results by employing simple, slightly conservative assumptions regarding the correlation of related effects.

  • It is often assumed that text regions in images are characterized by some distinctive or characteristic spatial frequencies. This feature is highly intuitive, and thus appealing as much. We propose a method of detecting horizontal texts in natural scene images. It is based on the use of two features that can be employed separately or in succession: the frequency of edge pixels across vertical and horizontal scan lines, and the fundamental frequency in the Fourier domain. We confirmed that the frequency features are language independent. Also addressed is the detection of quadrilaterals or approximate rectangles using Hough transform. Since texts that is meaningful to many viewers usually appear within rectangles with colors in high contrast to the background. Hence it is natural to assume the detection rectangles may be helpful for locating desired texts correctly in natural outdoor scene images.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the dynamic stall characteristics of an elliptic airfoil when subject to constant pitch motions. In this study, which was motivated by the pressing need for a greater understanding of the reduced frequency$({\kappa})$ effects on flow patterns of elliptic airfoil, the various reduced frequencies were considered. The result confirms that the reduced frequency has a profound effects on the flow patterns. The increase of ${\kappa}$ accelerate the separation bubble bursting process up to ${\kappa}=0.10$, then diminish with further increase in ${\kappa}$. Compared with static condition, the dynamic pitching airfoil delays stall angle approximate $4{\circ}{\sim}5{\circ}$ during pitch-up stroke for ${\kappa}=0.10$. Results from this qualitative analysis provided valuable insight Into the control of dynamics stall.
