  • Ultrasonic waveguide sensor has been developed for under-sodium viewing of reactor internal structures of a sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR). The structure design concept of a waveguide sensor assembly was suggested and evaluated for the application in SFR. A 10 m long ultrasonic waveguide sensor assembly has been manufactured and the experimental feasibility tests were carried out. The 10 m long distance propagation performance of zero-order antisymmetric $A_0$ Lamb wave has been verified. The feasibility of ultrasonic waveguide sensor has been demonstrated by the C-scanning resolution performance test.

  • In this paper, a study was conducted on the method of establishing the master plan standard for rational decision-making about utility tunnel construction in the existing urban. In the previous study, the optimal route was selected by the feasibility assessment. However, in order to increase the objectivity of the installation conditions of the utility tunnel in the master plan standard, comprehensive evaluation of the results by feasibility and economics analysis calculates the overall ranking for all sections analyzed. In addition, based on the results of the comprehensive evaluation, a method for establishing a mid·long term investment plan was introduced after reviewing the project to be conducted in the region. Additionally, in order to review the establishment of the standard suggested in the paper, an analysis was conducted by applying the master plan procedure to the northwestern urban zone of seoul.

  • The aim of this study was to design fast non local means (FNLM) noise reduction algorithm and to confirm its application feasibility in light microscopic image. For that aim, we acquired mouse first molar image and compared between previous widely used noise reduction algorithm and our proposed FNLM algorithm in acquired light microscopic image. Contrast to noise ratio, coefficient of variation, and no reference-based evaluation parameter such as natural image quality evaluator (NIQE) and blind/referenceless image spatial quality evaluator (BRISQUE) were used in this study. According to the result, our proposed FNLM noise reduction algorithm can achieve excellent result in all evaluation parameters. In particular, it was confirmed that the NIQE and BRISQUE evaluation parameters for analyzing the overall morphologcal image of the tooth were 1.14 and 1.12 times better than the original image, respectively. In conclusion, we demonstrated the usefulness and feasibility of FNLM noise reduction algorithm in light microscopic image of small animal tooth.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate Korea's employment policy for people with disabilities by utilizing situational feasibility evaluation of Fisher's multi-dimensional policy evaluation methods (1995, 2003). A number of related studies conducted so far have been focused only on quantitative research methods. In other words, balanced and comprehensive evaluation studies were insufficient. Therefore, this study attempted a balanced policy evaluation through a qualitative or phenomenological approach that complements the limitations of the existing empirical methodology. In this study, the sub-topics for evaluation were divided into employment delivery system, employment program, and institutional employment environment for people with disabilities. Improvement measures and policy implications for each topic were presented. In order to improve employment services and jobs for people with disabiliyies, it was suggested that there is a need to strengthen linkages and cooperation between institutions, eliminate blind spots in employment services, improve quality, expand customized employment services, strengthen programs, improve policy and institutional environments, and strengthen individual psychological and emotional support.

  • In large-scale hospitals, the department of biomedical engineering should always provide quick repair service for damaged medical devices to guarantee continuous patient treatment. However, in actual circumstances, there are so many time-consuming issues that delays device repair for weeks or even months; therefore, it is required to prepare alternative ways for quick repair service. In this study, we first mentioned about the regulation issues in Korea about the 3D printing-based medical device repair, and then introduced the results of our preliminary study that evaluated the feasibility of 3D printing-based medical device repair before real-field application. Results of the study demonstrated that, in all of the 23 cases, parts for repair that were manufactured by 3D-printing were successfully fixed and connected to the main body of the original device, and showed sufficient rigidity for protecting internal parts of the device. Considering the experimental results, medical device repair by applying 3D printing technology can be a promising alternative in cases when regular repair process is not available or takes too much time.

  • Feasibility of BaO-ZnO-$B_2O_3$ (BZB) based glass system in the light of dielectric and thermal expansion properties are reported in the literature. Effects of addition of various types of ceramic fillers to the BZB-based glass on the thermochemical stability and mechanical properties were investigated in the present work. The studied filler-glass system demonstrated a capability to host various types of ceramic fillers to form thermochemically stable microcomposites at the processing temperature suitable for PDP systems. At the same time, mechanical strength of the filler-glass composites was much improved as compared to the glass itself These observations brighten the feasibility of the Pb-free BZB-based glass system as a host to employ various types of crystalline ceramic fillers so that it can be applied to barrier rib material in plasma display panels.

  • The objective of this work is not only to perform feasibility studies on the CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis for the capillary system design but also to provide an enhanced understanding of the autonomous capillary flow. The capillary flow is evaluated by means of the commercial CFD software of FLUENT, which includes the VOF (volume-of-fluid) model for multiphase flow analysis. The effect of wall adhesion at fluid interfaces in contact with rigid boundaries is considered in terms of static contact angle. Feasibility studies are first performed, including mesh-resolution influence on pressure profile, which has a sudden increase at the liquid/gas interface. Then we perform both 2D and 3D simulations and examine the transient nature of the capillary flow. Analytical solutions are also derived for simple cases and compared with numerical results. Through this work, essential information on the capillary system design is brought out. Our efforts and initial success in numerical description of the microfluidic capillary flows enhance the fundamental understanding of the autonomous capillary flow and will eventually pave the road for full-scale, computer-aided design of microfluidic networks.

  • Traceability is essential in modern automotive manufacturing. Among existing technologies, RFID is the most promising choice for this purpose. However, due to the harsh conditions of production lines, especially in the paint shop, automobile OEMs would require expensive dedicated RFID tags and readers, which are incompatible with standard RFID technologies. Unlike the manufacturing industry, the logistics industry uses UHF label tags for track and trace, which provides high performance and a low price. Recently, this technology has improved to the extent that it can be used in harsh conditions such as on metal parts or in liquid. Herein, we assess the technical, operational, and economic feasibility of UHF label-tag technology for seamless end-toend traceability. Based on prototyping, lab/field tests, and cost-benefit analysis, we have proven that the single disposable UHF tags can successfully replace the problematic and expensive tags used in most domestic automobile OEMs today.

  • The transportation problem (TP) is known as one of the important problems in Industrial Engineering and Operational Research (IE/OR) and computer science. When the problem is associated with additional fixed cost for establishing the facilities or fulfilling the demand of customers, then it is called fixed charge transportation problem (fcTP). This problem is one of NP-hard problems which is difficult to solve it by traditional methods. This paper aims to show the application of spanning-tree based Genetic Algorithm (GA)approach for solving nonlinear fixed charge transportation problem. Our new idea lies on the GA representation that includes the feasibility criteria and repairing procedure for the chromosome. Several numerical experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Authors evaluated the feasibility of a permeable reactive biobarrier (PRB) treated with biofilm formed by Beijerinckia indica (B.indica). This study focused on evaluating two potentials of B.indica for the requirements of PRB: reducing the hydraulic conductivity and degrading the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The hydraulic conductivity was estimated by rigid wall column test and finally the values were converted to the values of intrinsic permeability. The nutrient solution was passed through the biobarrier column to activate the bacterium and then leachate was in turn carried into the column to evaluate the durability of the biobarrier. Phenanthrene was selected as a representative substance of PAHs. The ability of degrading phenanthrene by B.indica was evaluated by two-phase partitioning bioreactor after estimating the possibility with two pretests: observing the colony formation and the optical density on glucose-free medium containing phenanthrene. With the results, B.indica produced large amount of strongly adhesive exopolysaccharides (EPS) and reduced several orders of magnitude of the hydraulic conductivity after 2 weeks of cultivation. Furthermore, about 1000mg/1 of phenanthrene could be degraded by B.indica in the two-phase partitioning bioreactor. In conclusion, the application of the bacterium, B.indica, was found to have a potential role of a PRB to retain and remove contaminants in porous media.
