Consumers Perception on Apparel Products in Catalog Shopping, TV Home Shopping and Internet Shopping (카탈로그 쇼핑, TV 홈쇼핑, 인터넷 쇼핑에서 제공하는 의류제품에 대한 소비자의 인식)

  • The questionnaire survey was carried out to analyze the difference of consumers perception on apparel products presented in catalog, cable TV home shopping program, and internet shopping site. 676 men and 728 women participated in this survey and they were members of catalog shopping or cable TV home shopping companies or netizen. The results of this study show that the shoppers perception on apparel home shopping differed by the direct shopping media that they frequently utilize and by their demographic characteristics. The cable TV home shoppers had higher reliability on product quality than the shoppers using paper catalog or the internet shoppers. The cable TV home shopping members perceived that the apparel products available in cable TV home shopping were diverse and the information about the products was sufficient to decide purchase. The married women tend to think that the TV home shopping program provides diverse apparel products in the aspects of color, design, size and the information about the materials including fabric.

  • Consumers fill up not only their needs but also their own identity through apparel product and company. From this point of view, Brand personality is essential to convey customer's personality through advertizing influencing on buying behavior. This study investigates how personality factors of brand and advertising model and personality congruence influenced upon brand equity in casual apparel brands. The research methodology was questionnaire distributed to individuals who used to buy casual apparel brand. A total of 58 returned questionnaires were analyzed by internal validity, factor analysis and regression analysis with SPSS 12.0. The results of this study are as follows: in casual apparel brands, personality factors of brand and advertising model influence on personality congruence. Personality congruence influences on brand recognition and brand loyalty among brand equity.

Does Apparel Purchase Involve Joint Purchase Decision-Making? -Interpersonal Influences between Spouse or Significant Others-

  • This study examined factors that influenced susceptibility to dyadic influences between opposite-gender couples on making apparel purchase decisions. This study focused on main effects of couple identity, product knowledge, clothing involvement and gender, and the interaction effects of gender with other factors for normative and informational influences. A survey was conducted on 155 males and 166 females currently married or in a relationship between the ages of 20 and 50 living in South Korea. For normative influence, the main effects of joint couple identity and clothing involvement (fashion interest, symbolism, and pleasure), and the interaction between gender and clothing involvement (fashion interest) were significant. The interaction between gender and other variables were insignificant. For informational influence, the main effects of partner's product knowledge, pleasure, and gender as well as the interaction effects between fashion interest and gender, and between pleasure and gender were significant. Marketers may find implications from the study results on how couples influence each other in making apparel purchase decisions.

The Effect of Brand Personality and Brand Equity on Women's Casual Brand Extension (여성 캐주얼 상표 확장에 대한 상표 개성과 상표 자산의 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine effects of apparel product's brand personality, and brand equity on its brand extension. For the data collection, women in their 20s were surveyed, and a total of 576 questionnaire were finally used. Brand Reneevon and brand Enc were selected through a preliminary survey and then compared in terms of brand extension. Results of the study can be summarized as follows. 1 The brand personality of casual apparel for women consisted of low factors such as uniqueness, competence, fashionability and sincerity, while the brand equity of apparel included three factors brand loyalty, perceived quality and leadership, and brand association and awareness. 2. There was a significant positive correlation between brand personality and brand equity. 3. Brand Reneevon was found higher in brand equity than the brand Enc. 4. Brand extension was influenced by perceived quality and leadership. In case of the brand Enc, brand extension into fashion accessories was significantly affected by brand personality. 5. Brand Reneevon was found better than Brand Enc in brand extension, especially into fashion accessories.

Control Effect of Self-Esteem on Apparel Brand Types (의류브랜드 유형에 대한 자아존중감의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the difference between high self-esteem and low self-esteem about the product. The study used the questionnaire method to find out the control effect of self-esteem on apparel brand types. The survey data was analyzed by SPSS Hangul 10.0 Statistic Package. 16 apparel brands that had been selected by a preliminary study were surveyed by using. Brand Mapping was performed in each group for brand classification, and ANOVA was conducted in order to compare the variables depending on brand types. The self-esteem was surveyed by using the self-esteem scale by Rosenberg was used. Multivariate analysis was conducted to identify brand preference, product involvement according to purchase intention and the interactive effects of the brand types that are divided into familiarity and control recognition. For the purpose of the study was to compare searched the results of the high self-esteem comparison with the low self-esteem. The results of the study found the differences on perception about the brand between the high self-esteem and the low self-esteem on the preference. People with high self-esteem liked the brand that was perceived obedience. But the low self-esteem liked the brand that was perceived control.

Influences of Brand and Country-of-Origin on Consumers' Perception of Apparel Products (상표와 원산지가 소비자의 의류제품 평가에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The main purpose of this study was to determine the influence of brand and country-of-origin on consumers' perception of apparel products. $2\times2$ between subjects factorial design with brand (no brand vs. prestigious brand) and country-of-origin (Italy vs. Korea) was used. Consumer ethnocentrism and product involvement were included as covariates in analyzing the data. The stimuus was a double-breasted v-neckline beige jacket. All the labels were removed and a label indicating one of the four brand/country-of-origin conditions was attached. The participants' perception of the jacket was measured in terms of product attitude, product evaluation, purchase intention and expected price. A total of 205 housewives participated in the field experiments conducted in front of four moi or department stores in Seoul, and 202 responses were used in the final analysis. There was no significant difference in product attitude, product evaluation and purchase intention according to brand or country-of-origin. But brand, country-of-origin and the interaction between the variables were significant in explaining the differences in expected price. Consumer ethnocentrism was significant in all the models, while product involvement was significant only in the case of product evaluation. The relationships among demographic variables, consumer ethnocentrism and product involvement were also examined.

  • The purpose of this study was primarily to examine various variables influencing consumer purchasing behavior on perceived product quality, value toward product including brand loyalty, price, consumer's willingness to pay for the product, and their expenditure patterns in Korean apparel market. Factor analysis was used to evaluate the credibility of dependent variables, and T-test was used to compare the effect of brand label, country of origin, brand effect between Korean and U.S, and jacket price and quality on consumer characteristics. Discriminated analysis was used to find the effective variables influencing the two reference group differences when they evaluated Korean and U.S. labeled and non-labeled apparel products. Multiple Regression analysis was used to examine the effects of consumer characteristics on perceived quality, perceived value, perceived price, and their willingness to buy. The results of this study also provides useful information of consumer purchasing behavior on U.S. branded apparel which may or already launched the Korean fashion merchandizing market.

  • The purposes of this study were to identify buyers' need criteria on product/vendor selection criteria of apparel buyers in department store and to investigate the relatonships among buyers' need criteria, information search behavior, types of buying task and influential factors on buying behavior of buyers(individual characteristics, organizational characteristics, and customer perception characteristics). A questionnaire was developed to measure research subjects based on theoretical study empirically. The questionnaire was administered to 159 apparel buyers of 11 department stores in Seoul. The results of empirical studies were summarized as follows. 1. The need criteria of buyers on product/vendor selection criteria were classified into five types : vendor characteristics; quality characteristics; price characteristics; brand characteristics; product characteristics and the need criteria differed significantly by influencing factors on buying behavior of buyers. 2. There were no relationships between information types and amounts of information search but information types differed significantly by need criteria and individual characteristics 3. Types of buying task were significantly different according to need criteria of buyers and organizational characteristics. 4. Buying policy of department store was significantly different according to organizational characteristics.

  • This study investigated the consumer review information considered important by consumers when making a purchase decision to buy apparel products online. Data were collected through focus group interviews. Eleven females in their 20s and 30s, who have extensive experience in reading consumer reviews posted on online apparel stores, participated in the study. The consumer review information considered important by participants is the information related to seven product attributes (size, fabric, design, color, sewing, price, and country of origin), seven benefits (functional, financial, esthetic, emotional, social, utilitarian benefits, and product value compared to price) of the apparel product and four store attributes (return/refund, delivery, reputation/credibility, and customer service). The findings from the study can serve as an important tool in developing survey questions in order to evaluate the quality of consumer review information and help online retailers plan methods to improve the quality of reviews.

  • The purpose of this research is 1) to search for the possibility of DMDI(Digitalwear based on motion-detective input technology) as an apparel product and 2) to develop designs of DMDI based on consumers' demand. This research consists of part I and part Ⅱ. In partⅠ, six design guidelines for designing of DMDI and five feasible applications were suggested as the result of an empirical study. In part Ⅱ of this research, two basic directions for designing of DMDI were suggested on the basis of the findings in part Ⅰ. Total 5 design prototypes of DMDI were developed, for which ‘wearability as an apparel product’ and ‘usability as an physical interface’ were intensively considered.
