A Study on Compressor Seal for Automotive Air-conditioner using Polymer Resin (고분자 수지를 이용한 자동차 에어컨용 압축기의 씰에 관한 연구)

  • The existing compressor steel seal used in automotive air-conditioner has the problem of oil leakage and the deterioration in shielding performance, due to the abrasion and the corrosion of the material. A new type of polymer resin seal is studied in the research. The polymer resin seal has the characteristics of high anti-abrasiveness and anti-corrosiveness, which can overcome the deflects of the steel seal. In addition, the seal needs lower manufacturing cost and is appropriate to mass production, because it is made by the injection molding method requiring no mechanical processing. The profile generation program for seal mold has been developed using the gradient method, and the molding characteristics of the seal have analyzed through the flow analysis and the warpage analysis. The program has been verified by comparing the analysis results with the measured data of the test product. The research might be said to provide the basic method to produce the polymer resin seals with various types and dimensions.

Effects of PTFE and W Addition on the Anti-Wear Properties of Ni-P Coatings (PTFE 및 W 첨가가 Ni-P 도금의 내마모 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Electroless Ni-P coating is widely used for chemical, electronic, and semiconductor equipment parts because of its corrosion resistance. The incorporation of chemically-inert PTFE particles into the Ni-P films improves properties such as, non-stick, anti-adhesive and better corrosion resistance. However, soft PTFE particles degrade the hardness, wear and abrasion resistance. In this study, effects of PTFE and W addition to the Ni-P-coatings were compared by the XRD, SEM, sheet resistance, contact angle, and microhardness measurements. The change in sheet resistance was negligible, but contact angle was doubled by the addition of PTFE and W. The microhardness was lower for Ni-P-PTFE, but higher for Ni-P-PTFE-W coatings, compared to that of Ni-P coatings.

  • In this work, we observed the effect of silica, zinc oxide, zinc ion coated silica on carboxylic acid modified styrenic thermoplastic elastomer (m-TPS) film for friction-induced surface fracture. m-TPS film added general silica showed poor mechanical properties, anti-abrasion and friction-induced surface fracture, caused by strong filler-filler interaction of silica. In case of m-TPS films added zinc oxide or zinc ion coated silica, mechanical properties, anti-abrasion and friction-induced surface fracture were improved due to forming ionic cluster between carboxylic acid group of m-TPS and zinc ion. Ionic cluster were confirmed by FT-IR analysis that observed zinc carboxylated group stretch peak at $1550{\sim}1650cm^{-1}$.

  • This paper deals with a coating technique for hardening surface layer of softwood(Larix leptolepis) flooring board to improve its surface properties such as hardness and abrasion resistance, Two coating methods were applied for surface hardening of the wood in this study. First, several functional monomers were added in UV-curing epoxy acrylate varnish. Secondly, unsaturated polyester varnish was used as under coat and acryl varnish including anti-abrasive agent was used as top coat. The hardness of the treated wood was similar to that of high density hardwood such as keruing by the first coating method. The abrasion resistance of the coated wood was greatly improved by the second method. Adhesion properties and impact resistance of the coated wood surface were also good. It was suggested that the well-coated softwood could be used as interior flooring board for heavy walking as substitute for hardwood.

  • Rubber composites were prepared by kneading the precured CIIR with BR in order to analyze the effects of the dispersed phase on the BR/PCIIR composites. The particle size of domain in BR/CIIR composites was decreased and homogeneously dispersed by kneading process the precured CIIR used as dispersed phase in kneader once again. In case of BR/PCIIR40, the kneading time of precured CIIR with BR did not have any effect on the rebound resilience and the hardness of the composite. The tensile strength of the composite prepared by kneading precured CIIR particles and then mixing them with BR increased significantly more than 10% when compared to that of the composite which was not kneaded. The composite maintained the surface friction property while increasing anti-abrasion and mechanical properties significantly by kneading the precured CIIR used as dispersed phase.

  • This research was carried out to examine the properties of fancy cherry veneer overlaid on the PF resin bonded Meranti plywood floor, which 2.5% green tea leaf powder was applied in the UV varnishes and the adhesives for scavenging the volatile organic compounds. The results were as follows: 1. The various properties of the treated samples, such as density, moisture content, thickness swelling, bending strength(MOR), adhesion shear strength, surface abrasion, curling, cyclic delamination test with boiling water, boiling property, cold-resistance and heat resistance, acid resistance and alkali resistance, and anti-contamination property showed no significant difference between the properties of the control samples. 2.5% green tea leaf powder treated floor gave a little better results than the control for surface scratch test. 2. In case of QUV and weathering test, no difference between the treated sample and control was found. 3. The floor was discolored by adding 10% green tea leaf powder to UV coating, and the floor was also discolored to light green during by the soaking test. The color of floor was not changed up to 5% addition level.

Experimental Investigation of Concave and Convex Micro-Textures for Improving Anti-Adhesion Property of Cutting Tool in Dry Finish Cutting

  • Tool-chip adhesion impacts on cutting performance significantly, especially in finish cutting process. To promote cutting tools' anti-adhesion property, the concave micro-grooves texture (MGT) and convex volcano-like texture (VLT) were fabricated separately on lathe tools' rake faces by laser surface texturing (LST). Various orientations of MGT and different area densities (9% and 48%) and regions (partial and full) of VLT were considered in textured patterns designing. The following orthogonal cutting experiments, machining of aluminum alloy 5038, analyzed tools' performances including cutting force, cutting stability, chip shape, rake face adhesion and abrasion. It indicated that under dry finish cutting conditions, MGT contributed to cutting stability and low cutting forces, meanwhile friction and normal force reduced by around 15% and 10%, respectively with a weak correlation to the grooves' orientation. High density VLT tools, on the other hand, presented an obvious anti-adhesion property. A $5{\mu}m$ reduction of crater wear's depth can be observed on textured rake faces after long length cutting and textured rake faces presented half size of BUE regions comparing to the flat tool, however, once the texture morphologies were filled or worn, the anti-adhesion effect could be invalid. The bearing ratio curve was employed to analysis tool-chip contact and durability of textured surfaces contributing to a better understanding of anti-adhesion and enhanced durability of the textured tools.

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of Epimedium brevicornum Herba extract on the treatment of chromaticity and colorfastness. Epimedium brevicornum Herba has been used as a Korean medicine. It is effective in sexual excitement, depressant of blood pressure and anti-virus. It is also good as a tonic and in treating involuntary emission of semen. In the long history of Korea, dyeing has been applied for a means representing the grace of natural and inner esthetic consciousness of man. Vegetable dyes give us such great benefits, diversified color, but no pollution. And ramie fabric has distinctive features such as beautiful brilliance, elegance, and strong durability. So, it is regarded as a special product of Korea traditionally. These studies were carried out to treat with acetate iron, dichloride copper and alum with a mordant to ramie fabric. The ramie fabric was died with Epimedium brevicornum Herba extract. The results of experiment showed as follows: First, the chromophoric degree was the highest in acetate iron but not distinction in another mordants. Second, the light colorfastness was the highest in non treated and dichloride copper, but alum was the lowest. Third, the discoloration was alum and dichloride copper showed first grade in washing colorfastness. Abrasion colorfastness was not significant in this test. According the previous results, Epimedium brevicornum Herba has an efficiency in sexual excitement, depressant of blood pressure and anti-virus. So it is considered that Epimedium brevicornum Herba can be applied effectively to tonic and in treating involuntary emission of semen.

Anti Corrosive Performance of Al and Zn Coatings Deposited by Plasma Arc Thermal Spray Process in Artificial Ocean Water (인공해양환경에서 플라즈마 아크 용사 공법이 적용된 Al 및 Zn 코팅의 부식 방지 성능 평가)

  • The thermal spray coating process is being used to protect the metals and alloys from wear, abrasion, fatigue, tribology, and corrosion failure. Therefore, in the present study, Al and Zn was deposited by plasma arc thermal spray process onto the steel substrate and their performance was assessed. The bond adhesion result shows that Al coating has higher value attributed to compact, dense, and less porous compared to Zn coating which contain defects/pores and uneven morphology assessed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Electrochemical results show that the Al coating exhibited higher impedance value compared to Zn in artificial ocean water solution at prolonged exposure periods. However, both coatings show the increment in polarization resistance with exposure periods which reveal that porosity of coatings is filled by the corrosion products.
