  • The aim of this study is provide fundamental data on the glove size and pattern-making. The study was conducted targeting 60 men and 271 women whose age were within the limits 18-35 in Seoul and the neighboring districts. A total of 90 features in the right hand wew used for the anthropometric measurement and analysis using anthropometry and photometry. The result show that there was a difference between men and women' hand. And the result of correlation analysis between hand factors, length factor related to length and depth factors, breadth factor related to breadth and circumference factors. The sailing glove size in Korea was not suitable to Index finger circumference at 1st Phalanx and Middle finger length.

  • This study presents a systematic and mere economical method to acquire 3-D anthropometric data by the use of Moire' interferometry, image processing and computer vision techniques. An experiment was performed to measure sixty-one anthropometric variables, such as height weight neck-base circumference, contained areas of various contours etc.., of thirty-six male subjects with wide range of ages (14 years to 43 years' old). Cluster analysis was performed with contour information, and somatotyping was performed to obtain four distinct types of body shape. The results were then compared with classifications obtained from traditional somatotyping methods which showed 71.88% consistency. This study developed a simple and inexpensive method for 3-D anthropometric data acquisition and suggests the quantification and interpretation scheme that will enable us to utilize the data for industrial applications.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify some anthropometric characteristics related to the incidence of diabetes mellitus in Korea. The subjects were 165 male and female patients aged 30 to 70 years who had been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus for less than five year, recruied from eight different hospitals in Seoul, Korea. Weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference and triceps skinfold thickness were measured. Weight before diagnosis of diabetes was also surveyed. The body mass index(BMI) of diabetic patients before diabetic diagnosis was significantly higher than that of reference values. Fifty percent of patients had BMI values greater than 25kg/$m^2$, and female patients were somewhat fatter than male patients. Since many subjects were overweight before diagnosis, obestty could be regarded as a risk factor for the incidence of diabetes mellitus. However, waist-hip ratios(WHR) fell within the normal range, so WHR may not be regarded as an important risk factor for NIDDM in Korea. This study suggests that the risk factors of onset of diabetes in Western populations may not be applicable to the Korea population. More study is needed to clarify the risk factors of Korean diabetes.

  • This study deals with the analysis of the effectiveness of a safer belt in frontal crash. ATB, Articulated Total Body, program is used as a dynamics solver of the occupant model. ATB is a public code, however, the program is somewhat cumbersome to use due to lack of sufficient user interface. A preprocessor and a postprocessor are, therefore, developed for a user friendly graphic interface in Windows environment. Dialog boxes are used for an interface with GEBOD, Generator of Body Data, for human anthropometry and with ADAMS for vehicle dynamics. It is found through three test simulations that simulated results are in good agreement with those obtained by ATB. The effect of the initial slack of safety belt is investigated for frontal crash using the developed program.

  • According to the pedestrian protection regulations of Europe and Japan, the head injury must not exceed a limitation in the defined test condition for the protection of pedestrians from a vehicle crash. However, it is difficult to evaluate the performance of protection because each regulation has different test conditions such as dummy, impact speed and so on. This circumstance needs the development of a model that describes the anthropometry of the crash victim with a sufficient accuracy. We constructed scaled pedestrian dummies using MADYSCALE. Simulations were performed for various crash speeds and pedestrian postures. The scaled Korean dummies and HybridIII dummies were used to compare the pedestrian dynamic behaviors and head injury criteria during the collision. The HIC values of scaled korean dummies were found to be higher than those of Hybrid III dummies. The impact for gait posture was less than that for standing.

  • The purpose of this study was to classify the somatotype based on the side view and to analyze the characteristics of each somatotype. The subjects were 201 middle-aged women aged from 35 to 54. Data were collected through anthropometry and photometry and analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, analysis of variance, and discriminant analysis. As the result of factor analysis for the classification of somatotypes, 6 factors which explain 80.8% of variance were extracted from 35 photometric measurement. Using factor scores cluster analysis was carried out and the subjects were classified into 4 cluster Each cluster was classified as straight type, turning over type, bending type and swayback according to its position to the relative plumb line and their side view contour. And 4 somatotypes were analyzed by theirs direct anthropometric and indirect Photometric measurment to represent physical characteristics of each group.

  • The purpose of this study was to classify the somatotype based on the side view and to analyze the characteristics of each somatotype. In order to reduce the burden of stocks and increase clothing fitness, systematic information on typical body sizes and somatotypes is essential. The subjects were 206 unmarried women aged from 19-29. Data were collected through anthropometry and photometry and analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis and analysis of variance. As the result of factor analysis for the classification of somatotypes, 8 factors which explain 74.7% of variance were extracted from 35 photometric and 17 anthrometric data. Using factor scores cluster analysis was carried out and the subjects were classified into 4 cluster. Each cluster was classified as bending type, swayback, turning over type and straight type accordding to its position to the relativeplumb line and their side view contour.

  • To compare physique classification by body consciousness and anthropometric index, 83 students were chosen from May to June 1998. Anthropometry including weight and height were measured and food frequency was examined by questionnaires. The results are as follows; 1) Average age of the subjects is 20.7, height 160.8cm and weight 51.4 kg. 2) All anthropometric indices and body fat percentage are highly correlated and all anthropometric indices show high and positive correlation with weight, but negative correlation with height. 3) The 55.4-75.9% of subjects were normal range by criteria of BMI and RI respectively, but the 40% of subjects were obese range by the self-consciousness of leanness/obesity. 4) The lean group was thinner in trunk and extremities, taller and lighter than the obese group. 5) When we investigated the groups classified by the body consciousness, the significant differences were found in the physical measurements related with feeling about self-obesity.
