mastication is basically regulated by central pattern regulalor(CPG) of brain system, target organ output from CPG is modulated by oral sensory feedback, anterior cross bite pattern infuluence the feedback mechanism and change muscle activity and jaw movement. The purpose of this study was to investigate differnce anterior cross bite group from normal group, the selected sample groups were 30 normal patient, 30 anterior cross bite patient. EMG and EGN of Biopak system were used for this study The following results were obtained 1 In resting slate of mandible, anterior cross-bite showed the higher muscle activities in all the muscle.(exception:left digastric muscle) than normal group. 2. In clenching state, No significant difference in muscle activities of normal group and anterior cross bite group was noticed 3. In swallowing state Normal group showed the higher muscle activities in left and right masseter muscle, right posterior temporal muscle. 4. In maximum opening and closing velocity, normal group showed the higher value than anterior cross-bite. 5. In the mean value of the maximum opening,the maximum anterior posterior movemenl from centric-occlusion, the lateral deviation from centric occclusion, normal group showed the higher value than anterior cross-bite group.

The Purpose of this study was to compare the dento-skeletal characteristics between functional and skeletal anterior cross-bite patients. Twenty-eight functional anterior cross-bite patients and thirty-one skeletal anterior cross-bite patients were selected as a test and a control group. Mean ages of the test and the control group were $9.6{\pm}1.8$ and $9.9{\pm}1.9$, respectively. Lateral cephalograms were taken. Forty-nine cephalometric variables were measured and statistical analysis was performed to find the morphological differences between the groups. Statistically significant differences were found in the cephalometric variables of cranial deflection, maxillary depth, ANB, convexity, NPo-AB, APDI, Mx 1-SN, Mx 1-NA angle, Mx 1-NA, Md 1-NB angle and Md 1-NB. The test group showed more Class III growth potential, more protruded maxilla, lesser maxillo-mandibular difference, more uprighted and retruded maxillary central incisor, more labially tipped and protruded mandibular central incisor.

The author evaluated the effect of wunderer activator and karwetzky's u-bow activator for correction of anterior and posterior cross bite and mandibular shift to the Rt. or Lt. side. The results were as follows. 1. correction of anterior and posterior cross bite. 2. correction of mandibular shift to the unilateral side. 3. slightly down and backward rotation of mandible was occured.

Skeletal class III malocclusion with aterior deep bite is difficult to manage properly, especially in case of mild mandibular prognathism. We have designed lower anterior segmental osteotomy for improving the lower third of the facial contour. Considerable improvement of esthetic facial contour with correction of cross bite in anterior incisors was observed in patients with mandibular prognathism.

A patient (Hellman dental age IIIA) who had anterior cross bite due to functional factor was treated with activator. Following results were obtained: 1) Anterior cross bite was crorrected 3 months after the initial application of the appliance. 2) Comparing pretreatment records with posttreatment, the main effects were labioversion of upper incisors, increase of upper arch length and downward-backward rotation of the mandible. 3) There was no damage on teeth and periodontal tissues and the patient had normal occlusion 1 year after the treatment.

Orthodontists want why the patients want orthodontic treatment. Demand and need for orthodontics is very important factors of cooperation and management. Chief complaint would be different according to the race and culture. Our results show that in the control group, Korean female adolescents[chief complaint is cowding$(30.6\%)$, spacing$(26.5\%)$, upper anterior protrusion$(18.4\%)$, anterior cross bite$(8.2\%)$ in order. Korean female adolescents considered anterior cross bite is more nonacceptable than spaeing and anterior protrusion. The purpose of orthodontics seemed to enhance esthetic, dental health, and to improve oral function.

The patient, 16 years female, complained of anterior cross-bite and retrusion of maxilla. Mandibular incisors occluded labially to maxillary incisors. Normally developed mandibular arch in normal elation to facial line, S-N-Pog was within normal range. Cross-bite of anterior teeth was corrected by means of Class III elastics under multibanded system. Space for alignment of crowding of upper anterior teeth was regained by means of cervical headgear and sliding yoke. She gained good alignment of anterior teeth and attractive facial profile after 2 years.

A girl (Hellman dental age IIC) with anterior cross bite was treated by means of the chincap and occlusal equilibration on deciduous canines. Following results were obtained; 1) The cross bite was corrected after 12 weeks of active treatment. 2) The terminal plane of deciduous molars had become 'a class II tendency' 3) The axial inclination of lower incisors were changed significantly.

The purpose of this study was to assess the early effect of FR III on the growing patients with anterior cross-bite. The lateral cephalograms and models were obtained from 7 patients at the time of pretreatment and correction of anterior cross-bite. The results were as follows: 1. A slight tendency of rotation toward anterosuperior direction and the growth to anterior direction were shown in maxilla. 2. There were a little change of mandibular vertical position and increase in lower facial height although some variations existed. 3. The bodily or labial tipping movement was shown in maxillary incisors. 4. The lingual tipping of mandibular incisors was shown in all cases. 5. Maxillary arch width increased while mandibular arch width usually changed a little although some variations existed. But it was difficult to summary in a word because variable responses were noted according to a wide variety of skeletal type, growth, and malocclusion.
